TomVH: Antonio Kinard Update
LB Antonio Kinard was originally a commitment for the 2010 class, but ended up going to Hargrave Academy in Virginia. There were questions about whether or not he would be a part of the 2011 class, and I spoke with him about that today.
I have talked to the coaches (at Michigan), and I will be enrolling in January as long as my SAT score is high enough. I should be getting my score back soon, like tomorrow. I need to get somewhere around 1000. I think I got that because I'm here at this military academy, and all I'm allowed to think about is my grades, football, and getting out of here.
So as long as his SAT score is high enough, he was told by admissions that he will be in to enroll January.

THANKS TOMVH GOOD NEWS.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the SAT out of 2400 now instead of 1600?? How does 1000 get him in?
October 22nd, 2010 at 4:59 PM ^
NCAA only looks at Math and Verbal scores, no Writing. So it's effectively still out of 1600.
October 22nd, 2010 at 5:09 PM ^
Thank you.
October 23rd, 2010 at 12:34 AM ^
The NCAA might not be the only problem. UM admissions has to clear him as well even if he meets the clearinghouse marks. But hopefully he knows exactly what he needs to do and everything will work out well.
October 22nd, 2010 at 4:49 PM ^
Thanks Tom.
October 22nd, 2010 at 4:49 PM ^
Good luck to Antonio. If he doesn't score above 1000, can he take it again?
October 22nd, 2010 at 4:52 PM ^
my assumption, though, is that the testing date would be too late for him to enroll in January
October 22nd, 2010 at 6:55 PM ^
Can't you take it more often because it is on competures now? I know that I took the GRE on computer to get into grad school at UM. Also, I had the scores as I left the bldg. The academic person at UM called as I got home to get the scores, or is the SAT still different?
October 22nd, 2010 at 8:58 PM ^
Thats just like the DAT.
However, the sat is not on computers yet and still takes ages to grade.
He would get grades months after he takes it.
October 22nd, 2010 at 11:13 PM ^
new-fangled competures you speak of?
October 22nd, 2010 at 4:52 PM ^
This is my best guess: Yes he can take it again but he probably wouldn't get the results back in time to enroll early, so he would have to join in the summer.
October 22nd, 2010 at 4:50 PM ^
Wooo Good luck Antonio if you are reading this.
October 22nd, 2010 at 4:55 PM ^
Is he playing ball at Hargrave, and if so how is he doing?
October 22nd, 2010 at 8:38 PM ^
What was his MO coming in last year as far as stars, style, size, etc.?
October 23rd, 2010 at 8:45 AM ^
Last I heard, he was tearing it up.
October 22nd, 2010 at 5:21 PM ^
+1 to you sir, for vintage James May with rockstar hair.
October 22nd, 2010 at 5:38 PM ^
Is Kinard arriving in a Dacia Sandero?
October 22nd, 2010 at 6:37 PM ^
Indeed. Whilst wearing an oxford shirt made from his mother's curtains, presumably.
October 22nd, 2010 at 10:34 PM ^
With the Seinfeld and now Top Gear references, I must say, Michigan fans are too cool.
October 23rd, 2010 at 12:38 PM ^
I hope so! Because this D really needs someone to step up and kick ass (assuming Kinnard makes it to A2.)
October 22nd, 2010 at 4:52 PM ^
Can't I just take it for him?
October 22nd, 2010 at 4:54 PM ^
not if we want him to break 1000...oh snap
October 22nd, 2010 at 5:07 PM ^
Funny story: An acquaintance of mine paid me to take his SAT for him because he needed a good score to get into ANY college. I went to Michigan. He is enrolled at Ohio State. Go figure.
October 22nd, 2010 at 5:15 PM ^
Out of curiosity, is it really that easy to take the SAT for someone else? How'd you pull it off? I seem to remember that the ID checks when I took the test would have made it very difficult for anyone to pose as someone else.
October 22nd, 2010 at 5:24 PM ^
Derrick Rose and John Calipari thought it would be easy.
October 22nd, 2010 at 5:24 PM ^
Derrick Rose...
October 22nd, 2010 at 5:58 PM ^
I think they have raised the standards of late. But, the testing center in Las Vegas that I took it at accepted a school ID, so all he did was make me a fake school ID (fairly easy i guess) and I was off to the mental races!.

I wouldn't be too proud for a couple reasons:
1) It's immoral
2) You shouldn't have friends that go to Ohio State.
October 22nd, 2010 at 9:26 PM ^
Yeah but the second one leads to the first one even without the SAT issue.
October 22nd, 2010 at 9:30 PM ^
I guess I disagree with you on the morality of it. But, to each his own.
October 23rd, 2010 at 7:28 AM ^
Did you have a mustache to hide your true identity? Or did you shave to hide your true identity?
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:31 AM ^
... the definition of immoral wasn't on the test then.
not conforming to the patterns of conduct usually accepted or established as consistent with principles of personal and social ethics
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:00 AM ^
I think this action would qualify as unethical rather than immoral.
October 22nd, 2010 at 6:36 PM ^
You would hope so, but at my small town high school they didn't check for the ACT. The teacher's knew everyone, and everyone who was taking it so that was enough.
October 22nd, 2010 at 6:07 PM ^
Delivered pizzas for life?
October 22nd, 2010 at 9:43 PM ^
Oddly enough, matzaballs.
October 22nd, 2010 at 4:53 PM ^
Good for him Glad to see that he got things turned around for the better.
October 22nd, 2010 at 4:55 PM ^
Nice. Hopefully everything goes well. We sure could use some competition at LB next year.
October 22nd, 2010 at 4:56 PM ^
Someone remind me... does enrolling in January 2011 allow him to be considered part of the 2010 class still? We need all the scholies we can get for '11 class (though one should certainly go to Kinard if that's the way it works out).
October 22nd, 2010 at 5:07 PM ^
We need an answer to this question. I wanna say Yes, it counts towards last year, but it depends on if we have one "leftover" from last year to back-count it to. I certainly am no expert on this at all though.
I hope so, because after seeing Tom's "maybe final recruiting list" list, i was having trouble finding room for AK in my top 20 "wish list" based on other recruits we still have a chance at. Of course, not all the high rated guys will come to M so i suppose that doesn't matter.
Either way if he becomes a Michigan Man, i wish him all the best and i look forward to him destroying offensive opposition for years to come.
October 22nd, 2010 at 5:14 PM ^
someone smarter than I will inevitably correct me if I'm wrong, but it should not matter which year he counts towards. the limit for 2011 of, currently projected, 19-21 or so is limited by the 85 scholarship limit, not by the annual 25 per class rule. essentially, we can't sniff the 25 limit in 2011 anyway. am I way off? have I been staring at painfully boring spreadsheets all day and making any sense? if there are horse shoes, are there any horse socks?
October 22nd, 2010 at 6:11 PM ^
What I thought. I think you're spot on.
October 23rd, 2010 at 2:56 AM ^
Yeah seriously, there has got to be horse socks right?
October 22nd, 2010 at 7:47 PM ^
19-21 is about right depending on a few things. I'm not suggesting anything, just if there's any attrition, or if Mike Williams takes a medical scholarship.
October 22nd, 2010 at 5:26 PM ^
Barring major (unexpected) attrition, Michigan will not run up against the 25-27 class limit in 2011, so this shouldn't be an issue.
October 22nd, 2010 at 5:41 PM ^
Thanks, Tim. But I was under the impression (thought I'd read it on here before) that we would only have 19-20 or so to give for 2011 in order to stay at the team limit of 85. As for the rule, I dug around a bit and found the rule posted here.
15.5.6.3.2 Recruited Student-Athlete Entering after Fall Term, Aided in First Year. [FBS/FCS] A student-athlete recruited by the awarding institution who enters after the first term of the academic year and immediately receives institutional financial aid (based in any degree on athletics ability) shall be an initial counter for either the current academic year (if the institution’s annual limit has not been reached) or the next academic year. The student-athlete shall be included in the institution’s total counter limit during the academic year in which the aid was first received.
EDIT: Nickbob above basically was saying the same thing while I was figuring out how to make mine look all fancy 'n' shit.
October 22nd, 2010 at 4:56 PM ^
Sounds like a man with a plan, good luck on the test results.
October 22nd, 2010 at 4:59 PM ^
Sounds like Antonio can't wait to get the hell out of there. Good. Hope Antonio learned to focus on what is important, gets out of "this military academy", and directly to AA to begin the best 4 years of his life.
