TomVH: Antonio Kinard Update

Submitted by TomVH on

LB Antonio Kinard was originally a commitment for the 2010 class, but ended up going to Hargrave Academy in Virginia. There were questions about whether or not he would be a part of the 2011 class, and I spoke with him about that today.

I have talked to the coaches (at Michigan), and I will be enrolling in January as long as my SAT score is high enough. I should be getting my score back soon, like tomorrow. I need to get somewhere around 1000. I think I got that because I'm here at this military academy, and all I'm allowed to think about is my grades, football, and getting out of here.

So as long as his SAT score is high enough, he was told by admissions that he will be in to enroll January.

Can't you take it more often because it is on competures now? I know that I took the GRE on computer to get into grad school at UM. Also, I had the scores as I left the bldg. The academic person at UM called as I got home to get the scores, or is the SAT still different?

Someone remind me... does enrolling in January 2011 allow him to be considered part of the 2010 class still? We need all the scholies we can get for '11 class (though one should certainly go to Kinard if that's the way it works out).

We need an answer to this question. I wanna say Yes, it counts towards last year, but it depends on if we have one "leftover" from last year to back-count it to. I certainly am no expert on this at all though.

I hope so, because after seeing Tom's "maybe final recruiting list" list, i was having trouble finding room for AK in my top 20 "wish list" based on other recruits we still have a chance at. Of course, not all the high rated guys will come to M so i suppose that doesn't matter.

Either way if he becomes a Michigan Man, i wish him all the best and i look forward to him destroying offensive opposition for years to come.

someone smarter than I will inevitably correct me if I'm wrong, but it should not matter which year he counts towards.  the limit for 2011 of, currently projected, 19-21 or so is limited by the 85 scholarship limit, not by the annual 25 per class rule.  essentially, we can't sniff the 25 limit in 2011 anyway.  am I way off? have I been staring at painfully boring spreadsheets all day and making any sense?  if there are horse shoes, are there any horse socks?

Thanks, Tim. But I was under the impression (thought I'd read it on here before) that we would only have 19-20 or so to give for 2011 in order to stay at the team limit of 85. As for the rule, I dug around a bit and found the rule posted here.

15.5.6.3.2 Recruited Student-Athlete Entering after Fall Term, Aided in First Year. [FBS/FCS] A student-athlete recruited by the awarding institution who enters after the first term of the academic year and immediately receives institutional financial aid (based in any degree on athletics ability) shall be an initial counter for either the current academic year (if the institution’s annual limit has not been reached) or the next academic year. The student-athlete shall be included in the institution’s total counter limit during the academic year in which the aid was first received.

EDIT: Nickbob above basically was saying the same thing while I was figuring out how to make mine look all fancy 'n' shit.

Sounds like Antonio can't wait to get the hell out of there. Good. Hope Antonio learned to focus on what is important, gets out of "this military academy", and directly to AA to begin the best 4 years of his life.
