Tom VanHaaren Article on Rashan Gary visit
No. 1 ranked Rashan Gary and his mother recap first official visit to Michigan: http://t.co/Cf7o1Oa6fh pic.twitter.com/pVPyLnJMEn

- Paywalled. Nothing but good news out of the visit.
- His mom left impressed especially from the academics perspective.
- Gary said everything matched up with all the great things he had heard about fall Saturdays at the Big House.
- Although his commitment is still far off, this would be a win of astronomical proportions for Harbaugh and Michigan. It may be even bigger than Jabrill.

So Alabama it is...

More likely Auburn over Bama at this point. That's his next visit. I don't think he even has one scheduled to Bama.

Just sounds like the identical tone as the Hand recruitment.

That fell apart as it became apparent the team was bad and very poorly coached. Won't be a problem in this case.
September 30th, 2015 at 12:00 AM ^
Could even be a benefit if Auburn continues to blow.
September 30th, 2015 at 12:22 AM ^
I agree, if Auburn continues to play poorly that is only good for us.
September 30th, 2015 at 11:13 AM ^
Somehow, and contrary to the accepted laws of physics, Auburn both sucks and blows.

We simply can't compete with Alabama's engineering dept.
September 29th, 2015 at 11:39 PM ^
We reportedly told him he couldn't major in Engineering (too much distraction from football), which makes it pretty hard for our Engineering program to compete with theirs, no matter how good it is.

engineering dept just Moonshiners taught by a distant Earnhardt?

I hear they have a badass earthquake simulator.
September 30th, 2015 at 12:38 AM ^
Earthquake, the WWF wrestler?
September 30th, 2015 at 12:42 AM ^
"RobM_24, I would be surprised if Alabama engineering was concerned about the lack of a WWF wrestler simulator, but nice try."

An old wooden ship?

kind of badass.
September 30th, 2015 at 6:44 AM ^
No, I think it's the Rampage at Alabama Splash Adventure.
September 30th, 2015 at 5:55 AM ^
All recruits were attracted by that.

It prefers to go by "Nick Saban" thank you very much

The Singularity is nigh.

Tell me you ain't hype for an engineering program taught by Smokey Yunick.
I defy you to not be into that.
September 30th, 2015 at 10:00 AM ^
My late boss spent some time with Smokey in his garage. I'd sign up.

Has anyone ever checked to see if Hand's major is listed as Civil Engineering? I tried but couldn't find anything. I'd bet his major ends up being general studies before he leaves Alabama.
September 30th, 2015 at 10:59 AM ^
They told Da'Shawn that he was not guaranteed acceptance into the Engineering school, and that he would have to go through the same application process as everyone else after his first two years, which is notoriously difficult. Not only that, but he'd also almost certainly have to redshirt due to the class schedule for prospective engineering freshman students, as it would interfere too much with his practice schedule for him to earn playing time. These are the reasons they were trying to sell him on Sports Marketing, as these obstacles did not exist with that Major.
None of these obstacles existed at Bama, not only would they guarantee him admittance to the Engineering program, his class schedule would not interfere with his practice schedule and he'd be able to compete for PT as a freshman.

You apply to the Engineering School after sophomore year now?!
September 30th, 2015 at 6:17 PM ^
You can apply at any time.
If you don't get in straight out of high school, it's much easier to get in after a few semesters of good college grades.
I had a friend who started out in the music school because he couldn't get into engineering, applied after his freshman year, and ended up with a double major in Computer Engineering and Voice Performance.
September 30th, 2015 at 2:53 PM ^
I don't buy that for a second. Academic and athletic advisors may give advice about challenges student athletes might face with certain majors, but that would be extremely unethical to ban them from a certain degree.

He's planning an OV for the Iron Bowl, if Auburn is still terrible that could turn into an ugly atmosphere.
September 30th, 2015 at 12:01 AM ^
We can only hope that Alabama just mollywhops Auburn and they already have a losing record. Hopefully that wont make him want to go to Alabama though.
September 30th, 2015 at 6:09 AM ^
I wouldn't worry about that. Kiffin will probably try to sleep with Gary's entire extended family on the visit.
/s?
September 30th, 2015 at 11:16 AM ^
I hope someone mollywhops you today!
Wait, is mollywhopping good or bad? I am so confused.
September 29th, 2015 at 11:53 PM ^
attractive than the Iron Bowl for someone looking at Michigan and Auburn. Plans can change.
September 30th, 2015 at 12:53 AM ^
would not be an 'official' visit and he would need to pay his way. The cost of an 'official' visit is picked up by the school.
September 30th, 2015 at 6:42 AM ^
that I know exactly what Harbaugh was saying in that image? (He's saying "hats" btw).
September 30th, 2015 at 8:50 AM ^
I thought it was "ALIENS"
September 30th, 2015 at 12:29 AM ^
for this?

and (not so) inside jokes aren't really your thing.
September 30th, 2015 at 5:58 AM ^
Where's RollDamnTide to guarantee we'll win every recruiting battle with Alabama when we need him?
September 30th, 2015 at 7:04 AM ^
Since you brought it up, I will just say that I've had a chat or two with the person who claims to be behind that account since their outing before, and if what they said is true, you won't find them on MGoBlog for the time being, or at least that was their stance at the time of the last conversation - that may have changed, of course, for it is MGoBlog and we've had a few well-known former users come back in a "redressed" form, if you will.
September 30th, 2015 at 10:31 AM ^
That is definitely the way it has gone in the past, which is now the past.
Those days are over.
If he wants to go to the best school, be coached by the best coach, and have the best foundation for the rest of his life, he will choose Michigan. If he chooses elsewhere, we will find someone else who wants those things. Until he chooses, I will focus on Michigan.
He can help us, and us him, and I hope he chooses blue, but coaches are doing everything to bring the horse to water; you can't make him drink.
Thank you for the report though. About what I expected. We'll find out for real, as with everyone else on or about Feb 2.

This feels more like the Harbaugh situation than the Hand situation to me. Love me some mysterious rivals posters.
