Herman has less than one year of HC experience, and while there certainly are indications he will be good, I'm not sure programs a tier above SCar would want to take that risk.

A guy with only one year at his previous job. And whose current employer just gave a massive raise to. I'd be worried that he would bail out on me as soon as the next better offer came along. If Herman is smart he'll stay at Houston for a few years, build a good program, and get them into the Big 12. That would set him up nicely to replace Meyer when he has his next health "issue".

I think he's crazy to go to South Carolina. Houston put together a very handsome package for him with some incredible incentives.

If he stays he could make a ton of money and build something pretty good.  Might be some things about Houston we don't know (it's muggy as hell there for one although SC is too I think).

That Miami job would have been perfect for him.

I don't follow NFL but DelRio was all but signed to go to USC.  I believe the Jags were in the hunt or in the playoffs and it leaked out.  Much like the Les to Michigan story DelRio had to adamantly deny it.  Anyway, they wound up hiring Kiffin and we see how well that worked out.

If Oakland is the normal tirefire I can see them making a run at him.  They need a bigname coach badly and his resume is very respectable.  I actually hoped Michigan would take a look at him when we had no idea what was going on with the coaching search.

not sure how the internal workings are but they have some good young talent to build around.  Not saying they are going to be Super Bowl caliber but Carr looks like a pretty promising QB and ever since Gannon, it's been a rotating cast of nobodies at QB.

The SEC East is really weak. Richt will be gone soon, don't think UT has their coach yet. South Carolina is not a bad spot to be in right now.

I always figured he was going to ride the Houston wave till Ohio State opened up, air dropping pallets of money on his front lawn.

If I was gonna choose a destination to hold out for, it would be Texas. How in the hell can't you win at Texas with all of that rich instate talent? I get that A&M and Baylor is on the rise but there is so much talent there for every Texas team.

Surprising after he just signed an extension, and the fact that it hasn't even been a year. But South Carolina has to be figuring that if they don't get him, someone else will, and they'll be left in the dirt on their way back to 6-6 seasons.

Definitely a gamble to go after a guy who's got less than one year of HC experience, but why not risk it? You've got to contend with Florida and Georgia every year, as well as Alabama and LSU every few years. Herman is a young offensive innovator, and he could elevate South Carolina far above what Spurrier ever did.
