That said, Dantonio to LSU if they don't get Jimbo Fisher?

He was born in Texas...

S. Carolina is he alma mater.

If he's ever going to leave, he's not going to get better opportunities. The execption is OSU if he'd ever go back.

Hard to know if he could have done better. LSU and USC, clearly better jobs, were not going to take a risk on a guy with 1 year as a head coach. Virginia Tech I suspect would also want more experience.

That leaves Missouri, Miami, Iowa State, Illinois. All of those schools would want Herman, I would imagine. The only one that strikes me as arguably a better opportunity is Miami, which has natural recruiting advantages. But given the choice, I would rather coach at SC, where expectations are quite as high, and which has had more stability over the last ten years.

Lost to UConn immediately after Houston approved offering him a big raise,  But yes, that's really the point. 10-0 is too thin a resume for a job where they are willing to pay top dollar to get who they want.

Virginia Tech is the most consistently solid team in a region that now produces heaps of talent (and is adjacent to other talent rich areas like Pennsylvania, the South and has conference access to Florida), plus the ACC is much easier than the other major conferences. The path to a national title at Tech is much easier than most places.

I think they want someone with connections to the school and money may be a stumbling block for them. If they work that out it's a better job for the right coach. Not sure it's a good fit for many.

I agree that Herman likely couldn't do much better now, but I think he might be better off staying put for another year or two. South Carolina will be a good test of his coaching ability.

Good hire for the Gamecocks.  They will be getting an innovative clone of young Steve Spurrier, far superior to the washed up, stuck in his ways old version they previously hired.

But but but $3m contract he agreed to last week with Houston???

Well thats a risk for SC but what is SC - a 2nd tier program who has gone through coaches past their prime.  If you are going to take a risk on a young buck (pun intended) might as well go this route and hope its not a 1 year wonder.

I also don't hold SC in very high regard but it isn't a bad job to win at right now because the division is terrible. Florida swept the SEC East even though they lost to what is looking like just a decent LSU team and almost losing to Vanderbilt and a 2-8 FAU team.

I also don't know if he ever agreed to that contract (the reports were just that Houston offered it).

He could have gone to LSU after this season, or maybe Georgia or Texas after next year. South Cackalackey seems like reaching a little low to me. Sorta like Mullen to Maryland.

I agree. I think there are better jobs out there that would have come calling. Don't know if USC would have come after him, but with another year under his belt or maybe two more games (depending on how the rest of this season goes) there could have been other bigger schools giving him a call.

Ghoul Fever (Su): Disease—bite, Fortitude DC 12, incubation period 1 day, damage 1d3 Con and 1d3 Dex. The save DC is Charisma-based.
An afflicted humanoid who dies of ghoul fever rises as a ghoul at the next midnight. A humanoid who becomes a ghoul in this way retains none of the abilities it possessed in life. It is not under the control of any other ghouls, but it hungers for the flesh of the living and behaves like a normal ghoul in all respects. A humanoid of 4 Hit Dice or more rises as a ghast, not a ghoul.
