Tom Brady Named Offensive Player of the Year

Submitted by GoBlue007 on

Link below - he beat out Michael Vick for the award.    Brady (Tom) also references the toughness mantra which seems like it will be THE key theme of our Program.  I know that Brady's (Tom) comments are unrelated to Coach Brady (Hoke)'s on toughness but its a good thing to have our program consistently identified with being "tough" from recruit to alumni.   Hopefully we see more of it on Sunday from Chuck and Lamar in the SB.  Its Great to be a Michigan Wolverine.

"To me it comes down to the mental toughness and determination of the players and coaches," Brady said.

I'm from Boston, a Patriots fan, and I've followed Tom his entire career.

As a Patriots fan, you love seeing Tom get recognition like this. There's always been an epic Manning-Brady comparison struggle, with Manning getting the awards and Brady winning games and titles. There was always this debate over what is better. While Brady has earned some personal recognition these last few years, I know, and I think Brady knows that that's not the real prize. These comments are really telling:

"I feel our team really grew together over the course of the season. It was a privilege to be a part of this team," he said. "My only disappointment is that we couldn't take advantage of our opportunity in the playoffs, but hopefully we learn from that and use it as motivation toward accomplishing our goals for next season."

That winning these awards is nice, but winning Super Bowls is ultimately more important. Awards like this are hollow when you don't have team success. Tom is the ultimate team player and he has consistently always put the team ahead of himself. We know this first hand as Michigan men, people, fans, or whoever else posts or read MGoBlog. Brady was big team player in college too.

As Michigan fans, we love seeing our alumni getting recognition. It's something that brings us pride and brings attention to the University or football program that we love. But my personal feeling is that this award doesn't mean a lot. At least not to me and probably not that much to Tom. I understand what he accomplished this season, but I also understand that he's probably not happy with the end result. And neither am I.

But regardless, congrats Tom, you deserve this award.
