Tom Brady and The Beav
Round 2 for Pizza House dishwasher, Jay Flannelly, who is moonlighting as Tom Brady's offensive game plan install. Take it for what it may be worth but inside this story there is an element of Brady accepting all walks and treating people with respect and dignity.

I don't know why but when I read this I thought Brady Hoke had hired Tom Beaver to his defensive staff.
Edit: And now that the title has been edited this comment makes no sense.

I read it and thought that Tom Brady was embarking on some joint venture with Jerry Mathers

As a former PHo employee, I've found all this stuff with Jay very interesting. I'll admit I believed his inside track was more bluster than substance. Was very interested to read his section in Endzone.

That's awesome. Great relationship.

Flannelly watches All-22 tape of Brady's upcoming opponent every single week and prepares "a scouting report" he emails to the Patriots quarterback.
Man, I thought this guy was weird when I read about him in Bacon's latest book, and this confirms it.

He may be weird, but he's still our Tom.

Lol what a weirdo. Let's be honest
January 22nd, 2016 at 2:37 PM ^
... disagree with the suggestion that being weird is laughable. The older I get the more I realize it's the weird people who I envy the most.

I know this won't end well with me saying this, but when I heard him on WTKA, he really rubbed me the wrong way.

I upvoted you for linking an article that summarized Michael Rosenberg's piece so I could avoid him. Smooth. Never forget Stretchgate.

Rosenberg gets paid for clicks on the site that employs him; avoiding his site avoids paying him to write his bullshit. If enough people avoid his work, Rosenberg might redirect his life in a direction more beneficial to mankind than trolling the fanbase of his alma mater.

But is the Beav crazy? Like medicated (or should be) crazy? Because I would think that a guy watching film and preparing scouting reports for Tom fucking Brady every week should probably have a better job than dishwasher.
Why wouldn't Tom get him on the Pat's staff?
January 22nd, 2016 at 11:46 AM ^
because I would assume this relationship is a lot more "Brady is humoring a guy he met 16 years ago" than "Brady appreciates his expert insight"

Tom is a pretty good guy. I avoid people from my past like the plague.

If I'm remembering correctly from Endzone, the Beav is a Michigan grad, right? And he's working as a dishwaser at Pizza House?
I mean, a job is a job, and I respect it. But I tend to think there are a lot of things you can do with a Michigan degree that aren't washing dishes...

Yeah, when people are saying he's "weird" I'm starting to think it's maybe more than that.
Cool story, either way. And I'm definitely jealous he gets to hang out/communicate with the QB-GOAT.

I read the article, not really sure what to take away from it but i just refuse to refer to someone as the "Beav." Or at least an adult male

Belichick would be nothing without the Beav.

I started listening to WTKA back in the mid-1990s when Doug Karsch was the afternoon guy, and for a few years there was a regular caller who Karsch called "Crazy Jay." This caller had a very distinctive voice with a nasal New England delivery, and was a complete nut on Michigan football and recruiting, and sometimes his on-air moniker did seem pretty accurate.
Fast forward 20 years, and now I'm hearing some guy referring to himself "the Beav" calling into WTKA in the mornings, and the voice sounds exactly the same as old Crazy Jay's.
Now it comes out that the name of "the Beav" is Jay, and he's from New England.
Coincidence? You decide.

maybe alum96? If alum96 graduated in 96 their time at the school would have overlapped a little

How the hell does this guy get full-22 film? Is NFL F22 easier to access than NCAAF?

Certain level of subscription to NFL broadcasts will give you access to A-22.

He tends to run his mouth while drinking. I know a few bartenders around campus at the time stretchgate was breaking. Who knows if it's true. Based on my experience with the man, it wouldn't surprise me.

but linking stories written by their former reporter who launched the Freep controversy.
The Beav remains a close figure to the program with his Pizza House connections and Brady contact. I mean regardless of his season-long secondary and defensive breakdown for our intrepid qb legend, Beav knows the best time to call on hia buddy are after victories --only.
When Brady was at Michigan, one aspect of his driving character was well known to teammates, and that was his dedication to game preparation. I recall Steve Hutchinson and others on the team back then remarking that Brady was constantly watching film of opponents and studying their defense.
I recall this because it was a characteristic that was shared by another Michigan qb, Chad Henne. When Brady was on the roster when he first arrived, he was on a long depth chart for qbs. Moeller and Carr after they took over, made sure Michigan was well-stocked just like Harbaugh, perhaps because Lloyd was a quarterback himself who split time at Northern Michigan and Missouri.

If I'm Tom Brady, who looks for every possible angle on how to win, I'm reading what an old friend has to say on the issue. When you watch gamefilm (or anything) for so long, you tend to not absorb as much with each viewing as someone new to the situation.
Even if the Beav comes up with one or two points per year that no one else noticed, that's still one or two points that could be the deciding factor in a game.

Isn't this also the guy who Brady sent the "Peyton's got 2 years, I've got 10" e-mail to?
