I don't know why but when I read this I thought Brady Hoke had hired Tom Beaver to his defensive staff.

Edit: And now that the title has been edited this comment makes no sense.

As a former PHo employee, I've found all this stuff with Jay very interesting. I'll admit I believed his inside track was more bluster than substance. Was very interested to read his section in Endzone.

Flannelly watches All-22 tape of Brady's upcoming opponent every single week and prepares "a scouting report" he emails to the Patriots quarterback.

Man, I thought this guy was weird when I read about him in Bacon's latest book, and this confirms it.

But is the Beav crazy?  Like medicated (or should be) crazy?  Because I would think that a guy watching film and preparing scouting reports for Tom fucking Brady every week should probably have a better job than dishwasher.

Why wouldn't Tom get him on the Pat's staff?

I think there's a couple things here. First, from what I've seen, the Beav is maybe a little off, and just wants to be friends. It's not like he's stalking Brady or wants to catch up every week (that we know of). Second, if you're a star QB whose ability to inspire football greatness is only rivaled by your ability to inspire hated from opposing fanbases, this guy is one more "Brady is a good guy" story rather than "Brady blows me off" story. I too avoid quite a few people I once knew. There are entire cities in which I will not step foot and telephone area codes whose calls are not answered lol.

I started listening to WTKA back in the mid-1990s when Doug Karsch was the afternoon guy, and for a few years there was a regular caller who Karsch called "Crazy Jay." This caller had a very distinctive voice with a nasal New England delivery, and was a complete nut on Michigan football and recruiting, and sometimes his on-air moniker did seem pretty accurate.

Fast forward 20 years, and now I'm hearing some guy referring to himself "the Beav" calling into WTKA in the mornings, and the voice sounds exactly the same as old Crazy Jay's.

Now it comes out that the name of "the Beav" is Jay, and he's from New England.

Coincidence? You decide.

but linking stories written by their former reporter who launched the Freep controversy.

The Beav remains a close figure to the program with his Pizza House connections and Brady contact. I mean regardless of his season-long secondary and defensive breakdown for our intrepid qb legend, Beav knows the best time to call on hia buddy are after victories --only.

When Brady was at Michigan, one aspect of his driving character was well known to teammates, and that was his dedication to game preparation. I recall Steve Hutchinson and others on the team back then remarking that Brady was constantly watching film of opponents and studying their defense.

I recall this because it was a characteristic that was shared by another Michigan qb, Chad Henne. When Brady was on the roster when he first arrived, he was on a long depth chart for qbs. Moeller and Carr after they took over, made sure Michigan was well-stocked just like Harbaugh, perhaps because Lloyd was a quarterback himself who split time at Northern Michigan and Missouri.

If I'm Tom Brady, who looks for every possible angle on how to win, I'm reading what an old friend has to say on the issue.  When you watch gamefilm (or anything) for so long, you tend to not absorb as much with each viewing as someone new to the situation.

Even if the Beav comes up with one or two points per year that no one else noticed, that's still one or two points that could be the deciding factor in a game.
