Todd McShay calls BG most under the radar first round pick

Submitted by Mlaw2010 on
On Sportscenter, during a "draft lab" segment Todd McShay named Brandon Graham the most under the radar first round pick and says when surrounded by talent he's going to be a force. He thinks he'll be a star rush LB in a 3-4 at the next level. No link to the video yet, but maybe it'll be up on espn.com later.

there also is an insider article by McShay that says BG, Bulaga, Dan Williams and Mk Pouncey are the four "safest" picks in the 1st round. i'm baffled by all these claims that he doesn't have a high ceiling because of his height. of course he doesn't have a mario williams ceiling but the notion that he doesn't have pro bowl potential is nonsense. and if BG can't hold up against the run because he is 6'1" while Derrick Morgan or Dunlap supposedly can has a) no understanding of body types and b) not watched college football

is that he had to hold the Senior Bowl MVP trophy closer to himself than those with longer arms. Here's hoping he gets picked up by my team. I'll take short arms that happen to be attached to an absolute man-beast who is the human equivalent of a fire-belching bear with machine guns for feet.

...the "experts" who say he is too short at 6'1". Do they not know of one Dwight Freeney? They are strikingly similar in size (DF - 6'1", 268; BG - 6'1", 263). The Colts have the 31st pick in the draft and I would bet that if BG is still available at that point, he will be a Colt. I would think, and hope, that he will be selected long before that.

"I laugh at......the "experts" who say he is too short at 6'1". Do they not know of one Dwight Freeney?" Ah, yes. The good ol' theory that "Freeney is good, so it naturally follows that someone else who's his size will be good, too." Does it make a difference that Freeney and Graham aren't very much alike? Freeney is largely a speed rusher who only bull rushes an offensive tackle when he gets him off balance. He also has a lightning quick spin move that he employs frequently. Meanwhile, Graham is more of a bull rushing defensive end who, as far as I know, has never used a true spin move as part of his arsenal. Drew Brees is only about 6' tall and he's one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. That doesn't mean he's the prototype and that every 6' quarterback is going to be a Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champ.
