Timing of Transfers

Just curious if anyone who is a little more familar can give me an update on when transfers happen and how it effects theie eligibility.

Obviously Vlad leaving puts us in a bind, but if he goes to a school like Oregon who I don't think has started school yet could he be ready to play next year?   Does the fact he started school at Michigan have any effect?  Really curious when the cutoffs are because if he won't be ready to play next year it makes the timing of the switch even more curious.   Why not stick it out here and see what happens if you wouldn't be eligible anyway?   If he is ready to go next year then maybe people will be more understanding.

Basically, you're asking if this year counts as the transfer year?  That's a really good question.

...and he played FS and

...and he played FS and special teams in Week 1 2010.  Does this affect his ability to redshirt his 2010 season, or, did he blow it.  Essentially meaning he sits out the rest of this year and comes back at a new school as a Jr.; or, can he redshirt this year and play at his new school next year as a redshirt Soph?

Yeah, that's what makes the

Yeah, that's what makes the question so interesting.  Has he already used his eligibility for this season and would need to sit out 2011 to play as a (Redshirt Senior??) in 2012?  I don't know.

Last year was his redshirt year, right?

Not according to the depth

Not according to the depth chart Brian put together, he played some special teams last year.

He can play if...

He should be able to play if he transfers out within two weeks of the first day of class (I believe). After that though, he would need to sit out a year.

Though, since he played against UCONN, he will lose the year of eligiblity and thus only have two more years to play.

He won't lose a year of

He won't lose a year of eligibility, however he will have to sit out a year.  Wherever he goes I wish him good luck.  He never complained or isolated himself from his teammates.  He always had a smile on his face and worked hard.  The fact that he couldn't crack the starting lineup or even the two deep is very telling, hopefully wherever he transfers he's happy.  Thank you Vlad for representing the University with class.  All the best from Mgoblog nation.

Ahhh, that makes sense.  The

Ahhh, that makes sense.  The Lucas-Perry transfer rule (If you recall LP couldn't play for about a month of his first year at Michigan b/c he played the first month at Arizona before transferring) would mean he has to sit out a year, and so he could transfer today but wouldn't be able to play until the second game of 2011 at this new school as a Redshirt Soph.

Wish him well, but think out

Wish him well, but think out of his choices Duke and Virginia are more logical options if he is truely looking for playing time.

survive

Will our secondary survive this year? Alot of hits to an already weak secondary really hurts. I hope Rich Rod brings in some awesome freshmen next year that are college ready! I think we can get by most teams with what we have, and our offense scores alot.
