Time to recognize Gallon

All the talk about Roy Roundtree having a boom year and possibly All-Big Ten, and then the newfound talk about Gardner being our best WR by a mile..... well, Jeremy Gallon to me has shown to be our best WR,  and the chatter on him is hardly existent.   Gallon never seems to drop the ball.... he made a few Bama defenders look stupid on those bubble screens and got alot of yards after the catch.  It is time that the collective masses realize that it is Gallon who is our best WR.

and don't forget Gallon's catches early in the game... he got another 9 or so yards after the catch on both I think.  It seemed the only effective plays were to him.  Gotta say it really annoys me that his play has been overshadowed by the stories of Roundtree's supposed rebound and Gardner's position switch.

If I remember correctly, prior to the season last year, they asked opposing players (at the B1G media days) about our offense. One of the guys stated that he didn't think Roundtree would have the same success outside, saying that he felt his success was based on exploiting mismatches from the slot. Everyone could see it, even then.

My 2 cents in the "strategy for the game" thread was to have the WRs get behind the D and throw long bombs deep. Denard has a powerful arm that isn't used enough. He's not the type of QB that's going to pick apart defenses, and this way you take everything between him and the WR out of the equation. Gallon has the speed and deep threat ability to provide us that option.

I actually feel really positive about this play. It may have been questionable, but I think it taught out guys the main lesson Hoke keeps preaching to be physical. Yes, that was the most physically talented team we'll face but it's good to see up close and personal the vision the coach has for this team.

Yes, Gallon is great. Just remember, The D can't cover every option all the time. If they are focused on DG & RR, it opens up Gallon. When they shifted their focus to Gallon, RR made some catches. Against teams without 20 - 5* cbs, our boys will get open.

is an excellent receiver.  I think Roundtree will still be effective on the rollouts and quick slants.  I'm not sold on Gardner running routes yet .... uh, but then again Hemmingway wasn't the best route runner and he was still a great target.

But the catch of the night was Dileo's reverse twist catch and then kept his balance for positive YAC.  I thought Denard was too tight at the start of the game and tried to play too fast.  Borges needs to let Denard just throw some safe rollouts to get a feel for the game before trying to squeeze passes over LB's.

Alabama was weak on the deep ball ... but their main goal was to stop the run (same as msu - the deep pass will be there).  C'mon Blue ... can't wait for the home opener (thanks DB - when was the last time we opened the season with a non-home opener ????)

Go Blue!

just my 2 cents but i agree that Gallons is our best wr and i think Norfleet needs more time on offense. He is a great change of pace and looks like to good of a athlete to not have on the field.

also i think gardner is not that good of a wide receiver. he had three drops in this game and does not appear to be able to adjust to the ball in the air at full speed. luckily he did an okay job of that on his touchdown but he is very, very raw at receiver right now.

Its early.  He will get better.  I thought he had unpolished routes.  For example on the PI call that was picked up, he drifted in running down the field and ended up out of position when the ball arrived making it uncatchable or seem to be uncatchable.

While Gallon is greatly undersized for the position he remains one the best playmakers on the team. He has good hands, speed and he is very elusive. I think the bomb he caught from Denard that eventually put us on the board is a play he is capable of making once a game. I feel like his number needs to be called again and again if Roundtree continues to struggle with his involvment.

In other news, DG looked good. Raw, but good. I personally would love to see him become more physical than he played lastnight. The catch millner was able to break up that stalled a drive in the second quarter was his to make. I look forward to him using his frame and strength.

don't seem to be finding a lot of people saying otherwise. But we need the rest of the receivers to step up. Gardner's hesitant rookie play was likely always going to be exposed against Alabama, but he'll get better and opponents will get worse. We're going to be in some dogfights this year and we'll need them all.

I don't think any of the WR's played poorly. There were some misfires by Denard, and some catchable balls we lost on... but all the WR's were in a spot to produce against a very talented secondary. Gallon is becoming what we hoped he could be, but Gardner also showed some things, and gives us a threat downfield and on jump balls. Roundtree got separation, and both the slots can be weapons... overall, I feel better about this unit that I had anticipated.

honestly the only thing i'm worried about from last night is the injury to Lewan and Countess, beyond that, I think our WR will be fine. Devin needs some time against some inferior competition to just get some reps in, he went beast mode on his touchdown...flashes of megatron there.

Gallon is very good wish he was a few inches taller and he would be one of the best WRs int he conference.

so I didn't see what was the Oline when Lewan went down, looks like they slid schofield over to LT what was the rest of the line?
