third reciever was the toughest call. it was between marquise, manningham, avant, and breaston, however...not arrington.

for a minute i was thinking about going with the best slot reciever, but instead decided to go with the best overall reciever.

if marquise wasn't lined up across from terrell for 3 of his 4 years here, i think that he would have been more appreciated by michigan historians.

if you're asking me whether i would take #4 over manningham, avant or breaston on a hypothetical college team, its #4. but that's just me, obviously a debatable topic.

He had many more like that one. I know that it doesn't really speak to his receiving skills, but he had several punt blocks as well which says what type of all-around player he was.

Where does Tacopants fit in there? I'm sure he has a spot on this team. He had a couple of really good seasons in the Henne era.

edit: Ian Gold was drafted in the 2000 NFL draft making him inelegible for this team.

i guess its sort of a combination. henson had the best single season. but henne had 4 very solid seasons.

the tipping point for me was that one of these qbs left us with sophomore john navarre at qb to play AA baseball

I also have to say that despite a somewhat disappointing career (at least in proportion to the star rankings and hype that surrounded him) Prescott Burgess might get the edge over Hopson.

Also also, DWar over Marlin Jackson? I don't think so.

i put marlin jackson at fs (he played one season there), because i thought the lineup would be better with warren at cb than with drake or adams at fs.

I agree with you that he definitely deserves a spot on this team. I just think Prescott is right there with him. Hobson did have some weaknesses in pass coverage and was more of a downhill type player, whereas Prescott was more balanced, but Hobson was a very good choice.

As far as Jackson goes, he was not a very good safety but an excellent corner, and he played most of his career at corner. The only reason he played safety for one year was because our secondary was decimated by injuries.

A quick point. If you're going with an "all decade" team then you have to play the best players at their respective positions as opposed to building a fantasy team where each player plays whatever role that makes for the best team.

put your all decade team together however you want to, but don't tell me how to put together my "all-decade" team like you're some kind of elected authority on the matter.

if i was to put together an all-time all michigan team with everyone at the exact position they played...i would have a lot of backup LT's that were better than the starting RT...and thats no fun, imo.

regardless, i would take marlin in his one season at fs over shazor/drake/adams at fs, and i would rather have warren on the field than any of those players as well.

same goes for bass at center (played most of his career at lg), and williams at right guard (played his best years at rt).

Point taken. Its just if I were putting an all decade team together I would feel a little disingenuous starting Marlin Jackson at safety. It would be like playing Chris Perry at fullback because he lined up in a splitback or at the fullback once or twice just so you could get he and Hart out on the field at the same time.

From Larry Foote's Wikipedia page, which sums it up pretty succinctly:

"As a senior in 2001, Foote was a first-team All-American selection by Football News and a second-team selection by The Sporting News as a senior and was a consensus All-Big Ten Conference first team honoree and Defensive Player of the Year; he received the Roger Zatkoff Award, given to the team's top linebacker..."

Oh yeah, and he was the most ferocious hitter Michigan has seen in the lifetimes of most MGoBlog members. Maybe the most ferocious hitter the Big Ten had seen since Jack Tatum.

So I'd also say that he should be added.
