Time for Michigan Monday!

Submitted by maybaum on

"The Rutgers sideline looked like the aftermath of the Mount St. Helens eruption. Recruiting hosts and staff were laid one on top of the other like pummeled timber because of Jim Harbaugh's pyroclastic flow. His hellish firecloud took zero prisoners and even came back repeatedly throughout the night looking for survivors to destroy. And he found them. Every time."

This made my night: "Rutgers threw the ball 18 times and completed just two passes for a total of five yards. That's a passer rating of 'maybe you should quit football and focus on academics instead'."

"Watching Rutgers try to throw the ball was like watching a pregnant woman try to get on a horse. Yeah, it's funny at first, but then you just kind of feel bad for not offering to help.

'Here, Chris Laviano, let me throw that to your second read for you. Watch me. Watch. See? Like that. Now you try it. No, no, we don't throw with two hands, we throw with one hand. Chris, you're not listening. Get the ball out of your mouth. Chris...'"

Gerdeman mailed it in this week. He only watched half the game. Much of his commentary is based more on the box score than actual observations this week. He's done better work.

Not only was I watching the game, I kept rewinding to see the plays again!  There were many milestones to see:

  • Would we score more than OSU
  • Would we break the Michigan rushing TD record
  • Would we hold Rutgers to 0 first downs

The MGoWife was upset that I was still watching the blow out (you know they already won) and not watching the Cubs game (her team; not mine).

Opponents are all on their own and if they don't leave the premises Jim Harbaugh will release the dogs or the bees or the dogs with bees in their mouths and when they bark they shoot bees at you.

Just think how Ash would have cried if we hadn't been handing the ball to our third string fullback by the end of the game. Our THIRD STRING FULLBACK outscored, and nearly outgained, Rutgers...

I've read a few times in various media outlets that this was our third-largest margin of victory ever, but that can't be right.  As this article notes, we once beat MSU 119-0 and OSU 86-0, and our program record is 130-0 over WVU (1904).  Throw in that Chicago game from 1939 (85-0) and this can't be more than the fifth-largest.  Do we not count Yost-era games for some reason or are we just a bit sloppy with the recordkeeping?

I don't care his allegiances.  Hire this guy.

EDIT:  Best line: "but you still have to be pretty good to score 78 points while trying not to score 150"
