hard to imagine Kelly taking a step down like that. I would guess he'll sit back, collect his two paychecks, and wait for the perfect job to open up.

I would be shocked if Chip Kelly and his alpha dog mentality would accept an assistant position.
January 3rd, 2017 at 11:53 AM ^
His agent has let drop that he would consider an NFL OC position. (Which is obviously not the same as a college OC position.)

I see what you did there. Nice work.
But in all seriousness on the Wilson thing ... This scares the crap of me when I consider what he was able to draw up at Indiana. Its crazy to think that Urban would have two ex head coaches on his staff in Wilson and Schiano. That is a whole lot of power tripping.

I'm seeing noise about Ryan Day (QB coach at SF).

I assume he experiences synesthesia. Really interesting condition.

That's weird. First, they just hired a new QB coach (was what Beck was doing) who is from the Meyer tree. Second, Wilson is an air raid guy. Meyer is not. Their offenses are predicated on fundementally different concepts. Would they go hyperspeed air raid? That's a system overhaul from Meyer's power run read option stuff since he was at Florida. Second, if they hire Wilson, then wouldn't that only leave three defensive coaches on the staff since Fickle left? And what would Wilson do? An OC and OL coach doubling exactly what Warrnier does? And leave an unbalanced staff with three defensive guys one of who I think coaches special teams as well? That's a weird staff compasition. And not that OSU cares at all, but Wilson comes with some serious recent player mistreatment allegations. It would make sense to hire Wilson has one of those offense analyst guys. Hell, I wouldn't mind if UM did that.

Neither of them can help Barrett throw an accurate pass over 15 yds
January 3rd, 2017 at 11:48 AM ^
There's actually been rumors of JT transferring if this were to happen, as it did. Obviously he cannot throw very well, Wilson's offense relies on the vertical passing game, and now his two former coaches are teamed up back in his home state. He can take a grad transfer year to go play closer to home as Urban probably wants to move on.
It's not very practical, I know. It would make more sense for him to stay at OSU and to have Wilson adapt to his abilities for a year. But crazier things have happened.

I'm sure Herrman would love to have him though, since it essentially gives him one year to rebuild other parts of the team with a quarterback who knows his system. He can also bring the Texas QB who showed promise this year up to speed with his offense.
January 3rd, 2017 at 11:57 AM ^
Apparently Dwayne Haskins looked great and is already second on the depth chart and can throw bombs. Its one of those situations where the backup QB is always the best player on the team (see O'Korn, John) but depending on what Urban has seen he might think they are better of without JT.
I certainly wouldn't be upset to see him as still QB at osu next year which I think speaks to the limit his downfield accuracy puts on them against a team with good db's.

OSU usually falls foward once they recognize a problem with schemes.

They can have as many "staff members" as they want (see Sarkesian, Steve)

If they hire Wilson we won't have to worry about Barrett at QB.. Doesn't have the arm or accuracy for a vertical offense.... as many have said it wouldn't be too crazy for barrett to Transfer to texas. from reading other forums Bucknuts fans seem to think Barrett has hit his ceiling at OSU.. That leaves Burrow and whoever else. Burrow can throw a great deep ball. I watched him torch my High School Alma Mater many many times..and had a good spring game showing last year from what I understand.

Yea all my knowledge is hear say from the in-laws who are big buckeye fans. I haven't seen Burrow play since high school really. other than seeing a little bit of garbage time so I will take your word.

Well, if you read Ohio State Twitter, they are fine with Beck going anywhere that isn't called Columbus basically. It does seem like with Beck's influence, the Buckeyes became a far milder version of what they could be in critical moments, culminating in skipping the Fiesta Bowl altogether on Saturday, but I am definitely not inside the circle on that one, just a disinterested observer.
January 3rd, 2017 at 12:20 PM ^
I think Beck has become the whipping boy for some of Meyer's own playcalling tendencies that they don't like. It's not clear how much autonomy his OCs actually have.
