Fresh off a three game sweep of the Twins, a beautiful day for baseball, the Tigers got to be feeling good about themselves. The Red Sox have to remember that drubbing to begin the season at Comerica, they should be up for this one too!

Tigers/Saux, let's get it on!
The internetz: they are about to catch fire.
Fister's pitching, which means the Tigers will score 0.76 runs in this game. Maybe the Q. Berry leadoff train will continue injecting this offense, though. It's been a fun last few games watching deadly speed at the top of the lineup (no offense to A. Jackson who's had a tremendous start before the injury).
Nice hit by him, like to see those kind of hits. Hopefully we get some like that too. Fister looks like he's in the zone. "Crunch" Berry has injected a little "O" into the offense, let's hope he keeps it going. That would be great to have both him and Jackson in the lineup; I say Delmon needs a day off...:)
I wonder if Berry can play second base.
I knew that was going to happen, you fates, you!
hitting 2nd? This can't be good.
but that's not it. I guess it's just a Jim Leyland special.
Leyland didn't want back to back lefties leading off against a left handed pitcher which would have been the case with Berry and Dirks batting 1-2
We got fucked hardcore, there. That would have ended the inning.
I bet we could swap half the MLB umpires with referees from the old WWF, and we wouldn't notice much of a difference.
without the ball hitting the ground; the umpire who called that didn't even see it. How frustrating, hopefully we can come back from that...
We should be batting in a 1-1 game. Instead it's 4-1... at least there's a lot of baseball left to play!
Shit damn fart. Bullshit call leads to 3 runs.
that keep on costing the Tigers? Honestly, it seems like every other game the umps are missing/making a horrible call that has a big impact on the game. How the hell did they miss that call, it doesn't matter if he foul tipped it, Laird clearly caught it. Do you fucking job you braindead morons.
I mean seriously this is becoming a trend, you had the missed call earlier the year on a bunted ball that hit the batter against Texas, a double by Cabrera that was clearly fair called fould against Chicago, the missed balk call against Cleveland and a couple others as well.
When was the last time a home plate umpire checked with another umpire on WHETHER A FOUL TIP HIT THE GROUND?
Go get 'em, Jimmy.
Maybe Delmon should throw his bat at one of these assclowns?
Fuckin' bullshit. He missed that tag TWICE.
Just saw that.
Our buttholes are going to hurt after this game. This is ridiculous.
Lamont and Leyland ejected. Brookens in charge.
McClendon is in charge once Leyland's gets the boot.
at second. Unbelievable, are these little league umps or something.
That's two shit calls in two innings! What is it with these umps?!
When it rains, it pours.
Must be a shitty feeling as an Ump to know you botched.a call and have someone in your face in front of 30,000 or so to tell you how bad you suck.
He should feel shitty for blowing a call that directly led to 3 runs. If he gets the call right in the first place, this never happens.
OTOH, the home plate umpire put this whole shitshow in motion to start with.
I'm not going to feel sorry for guys making a quarter-mil to work 140 games a year. Sorry.
Didn't ask anyone to feel sorry for his incompetence, just that it must be a shitty feeling.
OTOH if Verlander is on the mound; 3 runs don't ensue
a little something going and then get boned by the umps in the next series.
Joke
As bad as that call was (and it was awful) it doesn't change the fact that Fister hasnt been good at all today.
the best offense in terms of runs scored in AL. You give an offense like that extra outs/strikes, and they are going to capitilize regardless of who is pitching.
Not to mention this is becoming a trend with the Tigers and umps, it is not just a one time occurence. There have been 4 or 5 obvious calls missed throughout the year, that have all been very costly . Like I said it is really annoying to see the Tigers start playing better in the last series, and than turn around and get screwed by the umps again this season.
Like I said it gave them more outs and they capitalized but if you've watched the game Fister has been knocked around pretty bad. Just doesn't seem to have it today, happens to every pitcher from time to time, except JV he's a freak.
I said anybody watching the Tigers all year would have noticed a trend a bad/horrible calls that have directly cost the Tiger's runs. It is getting frustrating to say the least.
Must get VIP passes, good for chicken and beer after this one!
Only 3 teams below us. Keep the focus Jim, still early in the season (per you).
Okay with the emergence of Berry; I am ready to deal Dirks/Boesch, Worth, Raburn, and a couple of prospects, for a quality fielding 2nd baseman with some speed. Someone like the Twins second baseman. I like the added dimension Berry has brought and think a similar opportunity awaits at 2nd
If you want Alexi Casilla for someone like Boesch you are insane.
Maybe so. But the Tigers have a glaring whole/hole at Second. Maybe not Casilla but someone who can cover ground at second and help out Porcello and Fister et al would be nice, and if that guy had some speed it would be a plus.
As far as Boesch; I think he is a nice player but hardly indispensable. For this teams needs, I would include Boesch in a deal for a quality 2nd baseman in a heartbeat.
Realistically 2nd basemen are hard to find, and teams don't usually trade this early in the season because most teams are still in the hunt. Personally I'd love for the Dombrowski to somehow swing a deal for Jemile Weeks of Oakland, but he would likely cost quite a bit. With Porcello, Max, and Fister arbitration eligible this year I expect one of them to be trade fodder because you can't pay all of them top dollar and Turner is cost controlled which is a good reason to keep him.
for some second basemean with absolutely no power. And let's not go crazy about Berry, guy has done a nice job so far, but he has been released by two or three different teams and was only hitting .270 in the minors. He will come down to earth at some point, and most likely in a big way.
And as far as Raburn goes, yes is terrible right now, but he has always been a second half player. I would hold onto to him to see if that pattern continues. I would think about sending him down in the meantime though, to keep Berry up.
The Tigers also already have two good fielding second basemen on the roster in Worth and Santiago. Granted neither one is doing much offensively, but a guy like Casilla won't give you much more offensively, other than some added speed.
I think Houston is the place you look for trading partners. The trade I would see is Porcell, Casey Crosby, and Young (or Boesch) for Wandy Rodriguez and Jose Altuve. There are a few reasons for this trade.
Houston moves to AL West next season and needs a DH and pitching with AL experience, this trade gives them that.
The Tigers need a Left Handed starter, Wandy gives them that. Tigers need a true lead off hitter, Altuve does that. Tigers need a 2nd Basemand, Altuve does that.
I know people are opposed to trading pitching prospects but Smyly has been solid this season, and Turner/Oliver are still around.
They're not going to want Young in a walk year, and I'm not in a hurry to unload outfielders in general, especially for a midget 2B and a 33 year old starter.
the Tigers need a leadoff hitter? Jackson was playing great prior to his injury, had cut down on his strikeouts so far this season, and was drawing alot of walks. His OBP so far this year has been very good as well. He has been one of the better leadoff hitters in the league so far this season.
I don't really have a problem with the type of trade you proposed other than the fact that I am too crazy about trading young pitchers for guys over 30, but Jackson is clearly mauturing into a very good leadoff hitter. It really doesn't look like a need going forward.
Honestly, what this team needs is for guys to simply start playing up to their career numbers (that includes guys like Raburn, Avila, Peralta, and Santiago), if that happens I honestly think their highest priority at the deadline may be another relief pitcher.
Good lord Altuve would look great in the ole English D, Houston gives up a lot in that deal you propsed though, might have to add Smyly or another prospect for Wandy and Jose. They could try a deal for a Neil Walker esque 2nd basemen as well.
The trade I would see is Porcell, Casey Crosby, and Young (or Boesch) for Wandy Rodriguez and Jose Altuve.
Shit, why don't we try to deal Raburn for Pujols while we're at it?
Reasons down a few spots but:
Porcello, Casey Crosby, and Young (Or Boesch) To Houston For: Jose Altuve and Wandy Rodriguez
Gump Laird homers to left.
No indication on whether they're going to check with the 1st base ump to be sure.
Did you hear Laird's explanation on why he wore 15 in St. Louis?
Ans: One player five tools... Hilarious
played pretty well this year. He is quality backup catcher.
G$ has more HR's than Raburn and he plays 1 out of every 5 games, that's pretty sad.
Maybe we should see whether he can play 2B.
I still have no idea why Raburn plays over Worth. If Worth can't hit any better than the .150 Raburn is putting up, he has no place on a major league roster.
until the second half. Then you can bring him back up, and he will most likely be hot at that point.
All right, Fister. Let's not have any more Saturday Night Fever flashbacks.
Berry is the most exciting base runner the Tigers have had since Ron LeFlore in the 70's
What, you didn't like Vince Coleman throwing firecrackers at little kids, or Tony Phillips trying to snort the first base line?
but why do you have a .147 hitter in the two hole?
Apparently Fielder didn't need a day off. Otherwise Raburn would be hitting cleanup. *shakes head*
Tony Phillips is a good call, he was a nice base runner but didn't have the speed of Berry. I honestly don't remember Vince Coleman 6 game stint in a Tiger uni in '97, had to look it up.
Good lord Fielder is such a butcher, I had no idea his defense was this awful in Milwaukee.
Marte does a nice job stopping the bleeding that inning, this bullpen still needs another lefty though.
being 3, the exact amount of runs that shouldn't be on the board for Boston. Funny how that works out. In other words, those umps can go screw themselves.
well, that's all she wrote.
Fuck it I am drunk. Fire dumbroski fire leyland someone please buy the team from illitch. The sox blow. We should blow the sox out. This time is a disgrace.
This team is a disgrace.
Boiler up Bitches?!?
At least they aren't the Cubs, but yes I agree.
the Sox don't blow. The Sox offense has been very good, they just need to get their pitching in order. Second, it's a long season. The Tigers are only 3.5 back at the moment, there is plenty of time left in the season. Show some patience, and posting when drunk clearly isn't a very good idea in your case.
Bottom line, baseball is about the long haul. As a fan you have to show some patience. Let's see where this team is at the end season, before blowing your top.
It is time for MLB to expand replay review. That call was disgraceful, directly effected the outcome of the game and could have been corrected in a matter of second by looking at the replay.
The human element of the game is the actions of the players, not the incompetence of the umps. Get the calls right.
