him getting on base sets everything up
landing spot. will be interesting to see how he does.
him getting on base sets everything up
Anyone know of a live stream for the game today?
Firstrowsports is not working for me.
We don't deserve to win if we can't get this run in.
At work and wondering if anyone is streaming the game?
Victor is gonna have himself a game today. I'm calling it now.
That's for jinxing him into grounding out to the pitcher.
He'll get more than one at bat.
You made him leave bases loaded in the 9th. Thanks
finally got him up with some guys on and he hits a weak ground out to first. Come on Miggy. Pick it up.
our 3, 4, 5 hitters don't even get it out of the infield with 2 runners on and no outs. Infield fly rule, weak dribbler to first, weak dribbler to pitcher.
no strikeouts, that's something!
They've got to seize this chances
Has anybody tried out the ESPN Gamecast BETA? I've tried it a little bit, but I prefer the old layout/design. Any other opinions?
Ehh. Could be worse. I like the field and Twitter integration. However, my main problem is that you can't roll defense, spray chart, and baserunners into one. Or am I missing something?
If it is true that Delmon could bat and not throw, I am surprised that Leyland originally left him off the roster. It might have been worth keeping one of our hotter bats for pinch hitting, etc.
velocity seems lacking so far ... maybe he is working up to it but seemed faster against the Yankees.
How fast is he throwing so far? I can only follow on Gamecast for now and that doesn't show pitch speed.
but it seems a little lower. I seem to remember 95s and 96s against the Yanks. He was more around 93 with a couple 95s. Perhaps, it is him finding a strikezone. The commentators mentioned that he was struggling to find the strike zone in pitching practice.
the slowest, most uncordinated looking fielder of the ball that I've seen in a long time
Beltre kills me. I am also a Mariners fan, and Beltre was terrible in Seattle. Leaves for Boston and now Texas and he is doing what the Mariners originally signed for.
start to the game. Rangers get the big hits and our big bats continue to be ice cold.
What happened to that red hot Tigers team we watched in September?
Lots of game left, but still not looking good for the good guys.
He just threw 6 balls to raburn and peralta pops out on the first pitch, why? Be patient please.
Agreed. Holland is not hitting the zone early. Take some pitches and make Holland work to get the outs.
"pops out on the first pitch" you mean "flew out to the wall in dead center field"...then yes, I agree that's what happened.
Arggg. Come on wind. Just for Peralta...plz.
does anyone know whats actually wrong with it? I dont recall ever hearing any actual injury announced.
Also love fancona on here and the fact he actually pronounces Avila correctly and not AveEla
Alex hurt his knee in game 3, when he stepped on Cano's foot, here is an article
3 walks to load up the bases with 2 outs for santiago
Just like against the yankees the Tigers are making pitchers work and throw a lotta pitches but need a couple big hits
I thought that was a single for sure
We just can't get that clutch hit right now. Ugh....
Bases loaded and he tried to pull the outside pitch and surprise he grounds out.
left on the bases after 2 innings.
Now a lead-off double....
Maybe i should go cut some grass and check in later. Might bring the Tigers some luck...
a leadoff double. hasn't looked sharp, but not bad. Good to keep the rangerrs off the board but still need a clutch hit to get a run across the board and hopefully loosen up the whole offense
should have been on third easily.
awesome way to score!!
how do you overturn that ... no replay ... did the guy from right field see that it hit his leg
that's what's happening. We just missed a homer .... now just missed a run ... have a bunch of stranded runners ... we need to score fergodsakes
umps overturned a call on something you really could not see without replay
That's bullshit right there.
probably the right call considering the umpire was appealing to 1B when the ball wasn't dead.
but my understanding was that the original call was no contact. The catcher needs to pursue that ball ... that's bad D by Texas. Either way, thankfully the point is moot! Go Raburn.
but the umpire was pointing to 1B; either appealing the call or signaling VMart to go to 1B. i'm not sure which.
it looked like the ball bounced and then hit his leg. that isn't a hbp.
thanks raburn!!! boo yah
Ding Dong Raburn!!
Ok I will forgive the umps for that call.... 3 run jimmy jack
Nice HR by Rayburn there, Tigers take lead
the evil twin brother of Ryan Raburn, except he spells his name differently?
3run shot after a bull shit call
shot to left gives the tigers 3-2 lead
now texas is going to bitch that it wasn't a HBP.
Johnny P with the wheels
is avila swinging at the first pitch? seems like hes grinding a lot and swinging from the heels. as much as the team needed a big jack by ryno avila needs one to calm himself down.
but i was more confused about the swinging at the first pitch, and regardless of being hurt, a lot of times a player calms down and tries to do less while they are hurt, and are better. To me it still seems like he is pressing despite being hurt.
strictly a physical issue though. Mentally he is not making good decisions, in terms of swinging at good pitches. He was a very selective during the season and looked to hit the ball the other way, he is not doing either of those in the playoffs. I understand physically that he may be worn down and is not 100%, but some of his issues can be corrected by taking a better mental approach at the plate.
I went out and fired up the tractor and when i come back the Tigers are winning...
Anyone need their lawn cut??
now water your garden!
Not to jinx or anything but I like that the tiger batters are being more patient this game than last when they swung at everything (at least after CJ left). Also, it seems like Scherzer does not have is best stuff but I love how he is pounding the strike zone. It might bight him later but walking people is the surest way to screw yourself. Gotta make them earn it.
Let's start taking advantage of Scott Feldman's tendancy to be Scott Feldman
Believe I just heard Terry Francona say "I've never seen a kid more comfortable in the clubhouse with just a pair of shower shoes and nothing else on."
up? Leyland better not go to him in a one run game. The Tigers are not swinging the bats the way they are capable of right now, this is a Texas pitching staff that they have pretty much owned the last couple of years(Ogando being the long exception)
to come into the game. You are crazy if you think so
NOOOO BRAD PENNY. Stay away!
go. This is what happens against a good offense if your not hitting well yourself. Can't hold down Texas's offense forever.
Edit: Big strikeout there. Still one more tough batter to get through.
It seems like they're taking on first pitch a lot here...these look juicy. Oh well. Come on Scherzer!
awesome job! coke for the next two guys. then on to benoit and papa grande to close it out.
out of that jam. Come on guys let's get the bats going. Hope Texas doesn't go to Ogando.
sure hope the plane has some cages to hit it. awful
one hitter too many ... so close to going to our closers. We may rue the innings we could not score against a mediocre pitcher
we'll get the leadoff guy on again and then purposely make an out by bunting.
swing the bats poorly against this kind of team and expect to get away with. Can't expect to hold a one run inning lead for 5 innings against a dangerous offense.
And Ogando will now be coming in for the top of the 8th. Obviously that doesn't bode well, unless the Tigers can find a way to solve him.
Tigers should concede. Rest for tomorrow with the way these clowns are talking about the Rangers bullpen
i mean Papa Grande has blown 50 consecutive slaves and if you get rid of April Beonit has been solid (if not living up to his ridiculous last year/gigantic contract)
and throw in al al who was the best reliver in baseball before his concussion. and every bullpen part of the tigers is awful and cant be as good as rivera or feliz
a ton of the posts in this thread suddenly get downvoted?
some troll i assume.
people shouldnt be able to vote on every post in a thread...
just some troll making a round annoymously.
The top of the 7th for us was really, really disappointing. Let's see if we can't grit out a win here...
was low. That was the same pitch that was called a ball a couple of pitches prior. With that said that first pitch that Avila swung at, is a pitch he doesn't swing at when he is right.
if your'e here leave. go cut your lawn again or something. thanks.
walk. Doesn't usually end well when that happens.
than a leadoff single, despite what announcers would have you believe
I mean, I understand your point, but it is different. It affects how both the batter and pitcher approach the next AB. Not to mention the whole point that you are not making the batter earn a hit, which they can only do about 28% of the time (though I understand this is prior to you making your point).
in the leadoff guy reaching via walk and scoring vs getting on via the single is 0.2 percent
It might be our night.. Come on boys!
Inge's return to Detroit glory next inning, I'm calling it.
there. The only problem is the Tigers will have to find a way to score off Ogando if he is still in there. They can't seem to solve him at all.
I didn't catch it, did they say Young was out of the game because he reaggrativated his injury or was he taken out for defensive purposes?
Wow, pinch hitting for Inge who has been a life-saver in defensively. I don't think I'm a huge fan, but we are upgrading the outfield defensively, so I guess it's a push with a better bat.
don't like it now, when defense is at a huge premium at this point.
overmanaging everything right now.
That's extreme. I don't think I would have made the move, but it makes sense. Inge's ability to get a hit off of Ogando was basically 0.
So, you go with the double switch and bring Kelly in at 3B and Dirks into left. While Inge has made some huge plays this game in the field, we'd be much more likely to lose the game on an error in left field by Young than anything Inge could prevent that Kelly couldn't.
out of the game when Inge got removed
Ogando owns us. Please get to the 10th inning and give Cabrera and VMart a chance at a homer...
turn on one here
Come on Don! Someone be clutch right now!
Tiger at 2nd
FFFUUUUUCCKKK send him! Make them make a play!
send him you dumbass!!!
All year you send runners. And NOW is when you decide not to?
OMFG I THOUGHT YOU WERE FAST SANTIAGO! Omg, Cabrera please...
musta been sick of criticsm and didnt feel like having a play at the plate.
interesting considering the year and i woulda thought santiago would get a better jump with 2 outs. cabrera is going to get walked so lets go vmart?
Terrible call holding that runner
there was going to be a good chance he was going to be out if he sent him.
I suppose they walk Cabrera to get to Martinez with the base open? Still, Martinez leads the league in avg with risp. Interesting here.
No way I would have taken Ogando out. He was dealing there.
That was painful. That should have been it. Have a bad feeling right now, you can't miss huge opportunities like that in the playoffs.
taking Ogando out. The Tigers can't seem to hit him at all. Wonder with Miggy struggling somewhat in the playoffs, if Texas may walk him with first base open?
Are we going to strand in this series?!?
Not sending Santiago wins the Worst Call of The Year award.
I thought Lamont was generally poor all year in those situations, but I actually agreed with holding him. Chances are, he would of been thrown out by a good margin. He was just getting to third when the ball was being thrown back in.
Send him and make them make the play.
If you don't play to win, you won't win.
The offense has been a no show all playoffs. From Avila and his pathetic batting and Victor inability to show up. not looking good for the Tigers
I have a bad feeling that Texas will win it now in the bottom of the inning. The Tigers just are squandering their oppurtunities to score so far in this series and the big boys aren't coming through right now.
Uh no Valverde in a non-save situation. Here we go, forget about it.
walking napoli? really? he's a K candidate for sure.
i swear weve left 54 men on base in 18 innings
great decision there leyland.
I love when the batter swings and it hits him
there. I don't blame them.
Why don't they send the runner on third there? If he gets thrown out, runners advance anyways.
because it would be 2 outs and no more sacrifice is possible
1 out, a run scores 65.4 percent of the time. Runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs, the run scores 26.6 percent of the time.
Sorry... mental lapse. Thought for some reason it would still have been 1 out even if he had been thrown out.
but if a runner is thrown out after a fly out, there can't be less than 2 outs. Ever.
Great play by MIGGY!
scare anyone else by making it look like he thought about touching 1st before going home??
Dear god. How? Oh well, now we have their closer pitching a long inning at least!
Let's score in this inning their top is coming up soon.
out of that, but would somebody please get a clutch hit to make it mean something. Problem is. Texas still has a couple of their best relievers left in the pen, the Tigers have used their best guys already.
I don't agree with how much they are bunting this game. Bunting with Peralta with a struggling Avila and Dirks coming up. Don't agree with that at all.
Edit: The Tigers have now left 12 guys on base. I mean seriously guys, could somebody come up with one clutch hit. They were generally coming up with those hits in the second half.
to 2nd doesn't actually even increase your chances of scoring.
You cannot simplify the situation into this statement.
Does this statement account for the potential to hit into a double play by not bunting? And it certainly doesn't consider possible pitching matchups, re: double play.
Bunting is almost as much about staying out of the double play as it is getting a runner into scoring position.
EDIT: I say this as someone who isn't a fan of bunting. I'm genuinely interested in your reasoning/research behind this statement.
They're both left handed which is significantly easier against this guy with the action on the fastball. There wasn't really a great option; you can always pray for a huge hit off a fireballer like that with a fastball hittier like Peralta but he wasn't feeling it.
It did almost work, to be fair. That looked pretty decent off Alex's bat.
2-25 in the playoffs? how?
That looked promising off Avila's bat. Oh well. Get through this inning I guess...
the bat as well. It may not have been a hit, but at least it was a better swing from Avila than what we had been seeing.
Get a run this inning with the top of the order.
Otherwise I think we lose. Come on Jackson, get it started!
Valverde gets out of it. It'd be nice to see one of the big fellas finally come through and plate themselves with one swing of the bat.
Side note: How has Cabrera not ever been talked about for a golden glove. Dude makes it look easy and is amazingly improved since when he moved to the position.
has two great relievers left in their pen and the Tigers are down to Al, Perry and Schlereth. No offense to our guys, but I don't like that matchup.
He has no idea what he's doing when he tries to be patient. Just doesn't get it yet.
You say that like being a quality MLB leadoff hitter is an easy thing to do. The fact that he is beginning to really work counts is a good start.
I'm not saying it's easy or we should give up on him by any means. I'm saying if there's one thing he needs to learn to do, that's it, because it absolutely kills him when he's facing good relief pitchers who are working on the edges more.
gotta pitch to cabby now
Don Kelly. Whodathunkit?
Come on Miggy...
just missed that.
has not been very good at all the whole season.
Edit: Yep, looks like the end of the line.
whiff a catch! seriously!
that play, it was tough, but it has to be made.
Grand slam ends it.
Fuck that shit. Nelson Cruz was the only player in this entire game that could swing a fucking bat.
new Tiger killer. Damn, don't want to say this series is over, but it's a big uphill battle now.
Damned disappointing, that. Got to hold serve now..
Rangers are up 2-0 but haven't played in Comerica yet
Let's see how Tigers respond in friendly confines
We have fister who is capable of going deep and it is not uncommon for the 2 - 3 - 2 to go to the home teams.
Tigers hitters need to show up at home.
seven game series. we're still alive. I like our chances at Comerica and game seven is a coin flip.
Fister is going to have to come out and pitch well right from the start. The Tigers, more importantly, need to find a way to get the base runners around to score.
resume drinkng and go lions
The funny thing is that Detroit's utility players have actually been the most consistent hitters on our team. The pitching has been generally decent including the bullpen. Our big hitters: Cabrera, Martinez, Avila, Peralta really need to step up.
I personally don't find this funny at all.
fister will do well in his next game but I was encouraged by porcello and how sharp he was in the bullpen yesterday. Tigers need to jump on the starter so we don't have to suffer the rangers bullpen.
Turn Maggs, Penny, Betimet, and a little more into Jose Reyes, Mr. Illitch. Go get your baseball Shanahan.
