is avila swinging at the first pitch? seems like hes grinding a lot and swinging from the heels. as much as the team needed a big jack by ryno avila needs one to calm himself down.

but i was more confused about the swinging at the first pitch, and regardless of being hurt, a lot of times a player calms down and tries to do less while they are hurt, and are better. To me it still seems like he is pressing despite being hurt.

strictly a physical issue though.  Mentally he is not making good decisions, in terms of swinging at good pitches. He was a very selective during the season and looked to hit the ball the other way, he is not doing either of those in the playoffs. I understand physically that he may be worn down and is not 100%, but some of his issues can be corrected by taking a better mental approach at the plate.

Not to jinx or anything but I like that the tiger batters are being more patient this game than last when they swung at everything (at least after CJ left).  Also, it seems like Scherzer does not have is best stuff but I love how he is pounding the strike zone.  It might bight him later but walking people is the surest way to screw yourself.  Gotta make them earn it.

up?  Leyland better not go to him in a one run game. The Tigers are not swinging the bats the way they are capable of right now, this is a Texas pitching staff that they have pretty much owned the last couple of years(Ogando being the long exception)

go. This is what happens against a good offense if your not hitting well yourself. Can't hold down Texas's offense forever.

Edit: Big strikeout there. Still one more tough batter to get through.

one hitter too many ... so close to going to our closers.  We may rue the innings we could not score against a mediocre pitcher

swing the bats poorly against this kind of team and expect to get away with. Can't expect to hold a one run inning lead for 5 innings against a dangerous offense.

And Ogando will now be coming in for the top of the 8th. Obviously that doesn't bode well, unless the Tigers can find a way to solve him.

i mean Papa Grande has blown 50 consecutive slaves and if you get rid of April Beonit has been solid (if not living up to his ridiculous last year/gigantic contract)

and throw in al al who was the best reliver in baseball before his concussion. and every bullpen part of the tigers is awful and cant be as good as rivera or feliz

/ rant

was low. That was the same pitch that was called a ball a couple of pitches prior. With that said that first pitch that Avila swung at, is a pitch he doesn't swing at when he is right.

I mean, I understand your point, but it is different.  It affects how both the batter and pitcher approach the next AB.  Not to mention the whole point that you are not making the batter earn a hit, which they can only do about 28% of the time (though I understand this is prior to you making your point).
