At least they're saying that alcohol wasn't a factor. That should stop a few rumors. It must have been a freak accident, like no seat belt and got a head injury or something. I hope he's ok. Weird thing from the ESPN article:

The Orange County Fire Rescue received a call about the accident at 2:28 a.m. ET. The Florida Highway Patrol did not report it until 2 p.m. ET.

There's an article I read from one of the local Orlando papers and one of the commenters posted that he is a resident of Windermere, and that a lot of the local celebrities there do their shopping at the Super Wal-Mart around this time of night just so they can shop in peace.

That sounds plausible.

The tendency w/ celebrities is to look around for skeletons in the closet and try to find them even when there aren't any. Maybe Woods has his, I don't know, but this incident seems pretty innocuous.

Lots of people are going to try and look for something here - alcohol, drugs, domestic problems - and chances are there's nothing to be seen here. The man was probably making a quick Wal-Mart run, was distracted by something (cell phone, perhaps, as SysMark suggests) and hit a tree.

Nonetheless people will still analyze this incident like the Kennedy assassination looking for something suspicious.

All I can say that the facts that are being published do not add up. A square peg in a round whole. At 2am you are going fast enough leaving a driveway to hit a fire hydrant and a tree to cause serious injury but they are saying that the air bags weren't deployed? All I can say, is that there is something fishy in Florida!

There's plenty of things that are "fishy" in Florida. Grouper, cobia, red snapper, bass if you are in fresh water, and more crustaceans than you can count.

Whatever Woods was doing in his private life is his own business. Besides, nobody who follows golf and knows of Tiger's obsession for practice would be the least bit surprised if Woods had his own key to the range and was on his way to get a little bit of practice in private.

And if I was Tiger, that would be my story.

That his wife heard the crash and busted out the back window with a golf club to get him out. Now let's think about this...something doesn't add up...you don't smash out a back window unless a car has flipped over. Why not just open the door and help him out.

Also, police report that he had cuts on his lips and blood in his mouth and was drifting in and out of consciousness.

My guess is that they had a fight, Tiger said he's outty and went to leave. Crazy wife comes out with his favorite driver and smashes out a window. Tiger flies out of the driveway and jacks a hyrdrant and a tree.

What say all of you??

If you're going to spend time on the internet fuelling wild speculation (which there is no evidence for) about the potential marital problems of total strangers, you need to get a life.

Find a hobby, take up a new sport, read a good novel, learn to play a musical instrument, do something.... but this.... suggests you either have way too much free time or way too little excitement in your own life. Let the Woods (Woodses? Woodsi? Woodsen?) take care of theirs.

It's a very slippery slope you're standing on, because every criticism you just levelled at me applies to you as well - except you're one further step removed!!

Even if I, "spend [my] life reading and commenting on the wild speculation (which there is no evidence for) about the potential marital problems of total strangers", you're the guy reading and commenting on my reading and commenting! And *you* criticize *me* for it? Hahaha, it's too delicious.

Is the situation unusual? Yes. But, the fact that some people have looked at what is an unusual situation and placed the Woods under suspicion by default, when there's no evidence that even suggests the claims that are being made... Well, people should learn to use their imaginations for more constructive endeavors.

What evidence for that is there *at all*, let alone evidence that makes it "obvious"?

Seriously, I'm wondering. If you have some, post away.

Is it possible they're covering something up? Sure.

But there are numerous possibilities as to what happened.

As of now, there is no evidence to place them under suspicion yet that is exactly what people are doing.

Is it a weird situation? Yes.

Since when does that automatically mean something sinnister is going on, which, is the conclusion some have jumped to?

Well, if you want to split hairs, I guess no one can know what happened for certain, except Tiger and wife. I'd say given these crazy circumstances and their crazy explanation, and given the extreme scrutiny that a celebrity like Tiger is under, particularly because of his sparkling reputation, and also given the obvious reasons why he and wife might make up something to cover up an embarrassing incident (even if it is far less than "sinster") I'd say there's a very, very high percentage chance that they're making up at least part of their explanation. This isn't based on special info - this is based on common sense.

Woods is a celebrity therefore there *must* be a coverup going on. Him and his wife are definitely on the outs. This is the *only* reasonable conclusion to draw from the very small amount of information we have about what actually happened.
