Just got my first set of student tickets in the mail today for football! Section 30 Row 92 Seat 11.

Section?

I recall that as a Sophomore, I wrangled some seats in Section 30, up in the 90's, thanks to some help from some of the Juniors.  We had a blast up there.  My compatriots smuggled in a pony keg for almost every home game, which I suspect is not easy to do, post-9/11.

But I sure as hell paid for part of it; that's just the kind of guy I am ;-).  But yeah, it is astonishing isn't it?  Even back then, when the entire student section was littered with wine bottles and beer cans, a pony keg was pretty deluxe.

But I can tell you; it wasn't just once.  It was virtually every home game for that season.  I had to see, just once, how they did it.  It was like an episode of Hogan's Heroes; a combination of planning, artifice, comedy, and security incompetence.  It was a different era, as well.  The drinking age was 18, that might have been the biggest thing.  And to be honest, we really weren't very subversive and not even rowdy.  We drank beer, laughed and watched the football game.  We didn't throw stuff, didn't toss coeds around, didn't get into fights.  We just watched our guys win games, usually by about four touchdowns.

I'm not exactly recommending that the kids try this at home.

As for the uhsers, if you got there early, the usher contingent was either not there, or easily distracted.  (Think, "Sgt. Schultz.")  But in truth, they could have nailed us if they wanted to.  And they would have, if we had caused any trouble.  Still, there were about 10,000 other students, all with wine bottles and beers.

This was the home record, in the oh-so-quiet, beverage-equipped Michigan Stadium in 1976:

Wisconsin  W  40-27

Stanford  W  51-0

Navy  W  70-14

Wake Forest  W  31-0

MSU  W  42-10

Minnesota  W  45-0

Illinois  W  38-7

(We beat OSU, 22-0, in Columbus.)

In some sections the ushers will make sure you head up instead of down. This past year I saw a sorority girl punch some dude in the face after he had the usher kick her out of his seat. It was awesome.

As for smuggling a pony keg in... Since I've been going to games for only 3 years there have been about 4 or 5 ushers per section. So not happening. Congrats on pulling that one off tho. Mad respect.

i meant more if you were in your general area ... or in the case of slipping one or two extra friends into your seating group area

if an obvious freshman who is rowdy and what not trys to sneak down the seniors will deal with him and well they should ...

If you get there early enough you can get whatever row you want, except bottom 5.  When I was a freshman we stood row 20-40, section 25, pretty much every game.  Just make sure the seats you are taking are from the sorority girls; you won't have to put up a fight, and you're justified in that you aren't stealing from someone who properly values the seats' worth

Don't actually go to row 92 as a freshman. Settle at a feasible distance. If the ushers get used to seeing you there and you don't cause problems they won't move you unless you're in the spot of someone who wants their spot.

Emphasis on the "don't cause problems."

Word to the wise...do NOT even try to cut through the band area. This is not directed towards the OP or CleverMichiganReference, but to the idiots we get every year who try to do it. We will ask you to go around politely and if you do anything besides comply, we have express permission from security and the director to physically toss you out.

I will eagerly be anticipating mine showing up in the mail then. Does anybody know if the hockey tickets are coming with them this year or if we get them at the BBQ like normal despite ordering them with football tickets?

I feel like they will be separate from the football tickets because of two reasons. First, studetns can still buy them in the fall if there are still seats available. Second, for those who bought them with football in the spring, we never created/chose seating groups and I remmeber the athletic department saying that we would do this in September.

last yr is when the athletic deparment started piggy backing on football tix with other sports and i bought my basketball tixs that way ... we ended up having to pick them up from the ticket office in the 2 weeks before the first game ... i would assume hockey is the same deal

My Dad tells me they use to roll kegs into Michigan Stadium all the time back in the 1970's, no sneaking it in, just roll right past ushers with it....we need to get back to this sort of thing.  Now, cops at the gates are looking for beers in cargo pockets and if they do find the beers, they treat you like they just found a gun or something.

I am going into my sixth and final year of grad school. I even was in the grad student section they tried out for a single season (2005) in the opposite endzone to the undergrads. I had row B that season.

I am a member of Dekers and right now I am kicking myself for not buying my Big Chill Tickets through them. I was at the Culver Classic and I had row 35 seats and they were pretty good.

The best thing about being in row 9 was being away from the greeks. I sweat to God my second year of grad school when i was in row 60'ish, I wanted to slug this drunk sorostitute that sat next to my wife and I.

109, 901 threads on "I just got my tix!" AND I want to know where ALL 109,901 are sitting.

I'm going to find that goddamm seat that is being held for Fritz Crisler one way or another--and I'm going to sit in that fucker.

And my season tickets came in the mail today. Love the Stadium through history on the ticket faces.  Didn't get my Big Chill Tix yet...though I'm sure they took my money already....lol.
