Thursday Night Open / Drinking Thread

Submitted by Hands Free on

It's been a crazy week for me - finishing up at work while training my replacement and preparing for my move to AA for grad school at U-M.  I probably shouldn't be drinking since tomorrow will most likely be another crazy day at work, oh well.

What are others up to tonight?

I'm drinking a Spaten Optimator tonight. One of my favorite dark beers.  Watching the tigers beat the tribe right now and writing thank-yous for wedding gifts.  Life is good.

Right now, I am watching the Tigers game in the living room because my wife need to watch "Pawn  Stars" on the big screen, but that's quite alright - I am sipping on Strongbow Cider and enjoying myself after a long, meeting-filled week. I may need to line up another bottle or two now that it is 3-3 though...

So I didn't think this was worthy of creating a new thread, but do any of you own a ChromeBook, or have you worked with one? My wife and I are considering buying a new laptop or tablet sometime in the near future, and I was just looking at Chromebooks online today. They seem pretty sharp, especially for the price. Obviously, it's nothing more than a suped up web browser, but it seems like we'd be able to do everything we use a computer for (word processing, printing [I know we'd need a wireless printer], web-surfing). It seems to me the only real drawback is that you can't pop in a DVD and watch it on the computer. Not a big deal for me, but my wife likes to watch a movie in bed every now and then.

Anyway, any thoughts from you guys?

Sitting on the tarmac at PHL, hoping the lightning will clear long enough for us to take off so I can get home for my sons birthday. I had some mai tai variant inside the terminal. /sigh

They had Weissbier at the store today that I have not had, so I picked it up. Hofbrau Munchen. Very hoppy, not like the usual Bavarian that I have, but I like it.

I thought I would share the lost explination of WolverineInABag for everyone tonight. For those of you who don't know, this was originally posted in the Chick Fil A thread that was deleted before turning into a political flamewar. Anyways, here's the post:

Ok, so I probably owe everyone an explanation. I'll give everyone the abbreviated version, to spare everyone the use of "I didn't read it, lol" images. Anyway, I grew up in a family deeply rooted in Alabama football. I come from a typical General Motors family, with one grand parent from Michigan, and the other from the south. Given this, I still have most of my Dad's side of the family in the south. I on the other hand, trended to my Mother's family's love of The Univetsity of Michigan, given that both my grandparents graduated from UM. My father being a graduate of the University of Alabama, followed a three generations of UA graduates. Like my father, my cousin (who began posting as RDT) is also an Alabama grad, who While he was still teaching, was an assistant for one of the better high school programs in the state. During this time, he met a lot of people associated in recruiting, and the guy knows his stuff. With that in mind, my original intent, was to start a recruiting blog, with a few other people I knew from around the country, and people my cousin knew. This plan got derailed when my wife got pregnant, and I came to the realization that I just wouldn't have time for it. I knew Mgoblog would be a great start for us to build up an interested fan base. With Greg (RDT) being a really funny guy, I suggested he start an account, and just start posting, he did and everyone enjoyed it. People will disagree with this, because of how it ended up, but Greg was right about everything he said, with the exception of Ty Isaac. As these things go, Greg got bored, and really stopped posting all together, except for a few things here and there. Then, RDT became a bunch of us, with us all having access to the account. A few people started noticing differences in the writing, from when he first started posting until then. Mark and Jay, who didn't really frequent Mgoblog (being Illinois guys) didn't know the forum rules, and would double post things quite a bit. Then came my infamous post mistake from my phone, when I was on both mine and rdt's account. From there I'm sure you all know the rest. This is the Internet, so I don't expect anyone to believe this. With that bring said, I'm going to post a video with all of us that will launch the blog we're starting next week. Even though a lot of you are ticked off at me, but if you liked Greg's writings on here, you'll enjoy our blog. Again, I'm sorry, I never meant to mislead anyone, but when RDT took off like wild fire, it didn't make sense for any of us to keep posting ourselves.

This was followed by everyone's predictable responses about trust and getting a life and whatnot, so WIAB posted this as a reply:

Extremely long work weeks, a wife, and a 6 month old don't allow me a great deal of time. Like I said, you can believe anything you want, I have nothing to hide. The reason I didn't post sooner, is that like I was taught in the army, you always want to stand at least 75 yards away from something that is about to explode.
