Thursday Night NCAAFB Open Thread - Pirate Out Edition

Submitted by formerlyanonymous on
Little early in getting this out (games are all at 7:30pm ET), but I'm going to be in and out for the next few hours. I'm working on a rather long mgofiction. I'm about 2/3 the way through it so far, and that'll take about 8-9 diaries. Woo lull between OSU and a bowl game (staying positive here). As mentioned in an earlier thread, there's a Pirate Out tonight at East Carolina as they host Virginia Tech. This is THE awesome.
ECU Football is at its best when the Pirate Nation is focused on what is happening on the field because that is the one thing that is important to all of us. So dress like a Pirate, wear PURPLE, BLACK, GOLD or POLKA DOTS if it helps you get focused on the game ... but don't be distracted by what other good Pirates decide to wear.
Line is VT -12.5 or -13 that I see. O/U appears to be ~51. ECU hasn't beaten anyone of consequence this year (unless you include App State in their opener. Sigh...). I'm no jaimemac, but I think I'll give the points. I could easily see VT by 2 TDs. The other televised game is Eastern Michigan @ Northern Illinois on ESPNU. That's NIU -21 (note: ouch). O/U ~49. Finally, Miami(NTM) plays at Temple. I don't think it's on TV. What's the point of playing on Thursday if it's not on TV? They could have at least played on Wednesday or even as the undercard for tomorrow's Boise State game. Anyway, discussion of the games, sexy pirates, pirates in general, how inept EMU is, etc will be here.

down after their game last week. This one is meaningless as far as the ACC goes for them, I could see a lax effort tonight. But VTU should win this one. Here's tonight full tv schedule Eastern Michigan at Northern Illinois 6:30 p.m. ESPNU (HD) Virginia Tech at East Carolina 6:30 p.m. ESPN (HD) Miami Ohio at Temple 6:30 p.m. ESPN 360 DII: Shepherd at Glenville State 7:00 p.m. CBSC (HD)

Remember when ECU beat Va Tech and propelled themselves toward the top of the BlogPoll the first part of last year? I'd love to see a replay of that. (Actually I don't care about ECU, just do it for the pirates!)

35-14. I think the Hokies will be be extra motivated given the way they lost last week's game against UNC. Oh yeah, and there's also the revenge factor for last year's loss to ECU.

1.) Old Spice Classic, BC, Utah, Kansas....what do you mean 'lull' between OSU and a bowl game? 2.) Since you're no jamie mac, that means you will probably pick the game correctly. october has suuuuuuuucked. I am the Michigan Football of college football wagering. 3.)Its hard for me not to take ECU here on account of Holtz being 18-7 ATS as an underdog at ECU. But: 0-2 this year against WVA and UNC. Yes, I lost on both. Is there a fancy hat trick-like nickname type thing we call what I'm going after tonight if I take ECU 4.) Not sure the best bet on the board is laying all those points with Temple (-17) against Miami (NTM). Temple is really really good. Miami (NTM) is really really bad. Ditto too for NIU/EMU, but I dont think NIU is as good so I trust them less laying the chalk. Cheers!

Basketball ain't my forte. I'm still getting used to it mattering in Ann Arbor again. But my thing is a side show for whatever is going on.

So you lack any safety bets? Yeah, I can't get a good read on ECU. General look over says not very good. VT is just a bit inconsistent for me to say more than 2 TDs, but with the spread at 13, 14 still covers. Now if they start kicking too many FGs in the first half, I'd be worried. Agreed with Temple. I'm not sure NIU makes the 21 point spread.

NIU have thrown 1 pass. Not completed one pass. Not one TOUCHDOWN pass. One pass attempt. Granted it was a 30 yard TD from DeMarcus Grady. Ronnie English has his work cut out for him.

Gotta love when the refs call a ticky tack hold that negates a TD...which is then followed by a a turnover. Not like they're impacting the game too much or anything.

I am one of the 17 people that still watch Survivor(8-9 CBS). I am also a 28 year old freshman in Community College. NBC has a show about Community College(8-8:30 NBC). I also love football. I end up watching Survivor, watching Community online, and following CFB on line. Dear Networks, Why do you schedule absolute llama shit in primetime 4/5 nights a week, only to make Thursday "Must see TV"? Here's a suggestion...Ross and Rachel aren't getting married. Wanna know why your 123 variations of Law and Order suck? Because there are 122 spin-offs. Fuck. Are the Big 10 refs moonlighting tonight for extra income? or are these the Sun Belt refs from a few years and have finally worked up to a better league? Go

In terms of replay, they've got BigTen written all over it. That "forward pass" was horrible. Tick tack mystery calls makes me think Sun Belt. They haven't really let too many obvious calls go by the wayside except the mystery forward pass past the line of scrimmage. I'm feeling the SEC with their calls all going against ECU to protect the higher ranked team.

Mark May is such a 'tard. He just compared the Oregon/Boise State situation to last year's Texas/Oklahoma situation... While I agree with him that Oregon is better, BSU is UNDEFEATED. There is no comparison.

This kid is a stud. Best RB talent the Hokies have ever had. #3 RB in the 2008 class, behind Darrell Scott, and Jermie Calhous. A spot ahead of Jonas Gray. Mike Shaw was #7 Per Rivals.

Not to go all semantics on you, but best talent does not mean best RB. Clearly, he is the highest guru approved RB recruit they've ever had. I was stunned they redshirted him last year. He's got a strong chance at being every bit as good if not better than those guys, based on this debut. And, I'm giving him a little benefit of the doubt because of his star rating since he didnt just come out of nowhere. Jones and Suggs were awesome college backs. So fun to watch. I enjoyed Suggs, for some reason. Loved watching him running downhill in the open field.

winning a shootout vs. San Hoser and the ECU game. I would have left in on ECU, but I have yet to see more than 1/2 of a pirate. I'd like to think if we ever had a "Pirate-Out" at Michigan Stadium many of us would show up with grog, a patch, a cape, and many of arrrghhhs. Seriously. It's a night game at a school with marginal classes any day, much less Friday. They just panned the crowd. WHERE ARE THE PIRATES? EDIT: Holy Huskies, Batman. I just read the ESPNU game point spread above. The Huskies have doubled it. No shit. Wow.
