Yeah, I just saw this on Scout. This is an interesting time to see a hello post.......you should probably change the title of this post to "Hello: Matt Goudis"
THROUGH the uprights
"He is the top field goal kicker in the nation in the Class of 2011"
Dennis Nedry is cackling with glee!
I never thought I would be this excited about a kicker! Welcome!
We're saved! We're saved!
+1 for making me laugh with your username.
That's a good way to end my night at work. Hooray for a kicker!
Finkle is Einhorn!
Wow I feel like this just came out of no where.
YES!!!! We have a kicker!!!
but at least i followed etiquette and gave mine the proper title...all in good fun and hopefully our kicking whoas are over.
I'm anything but a stickler for grammar, but it's kind of funny that you say our kicking "whoas". As in, "Whoa, that was an awful kick," or "Whoa, he missed that one bad". In all seriousness, I hope our kicking whoas are over, too.
Technically, bouncing the ball off the crossbar with forward momentum also counts as a valid FG.
...Oh wait, I see what you mean.
I present you with exhibit A, a 45 yarder
and exhibit B, a 54 yarder !!!!!!!!!!!
and there doesn't seem to be a tee to aid him...
We can't be sure it went through the uprights on the 54-yarder, can we? I sure can't see it. The cameraman had his camera focused on the linemen's butts for a few seconds too long.
According to the announcers during his game, it's pronounced "Good-ess". And here's to 4 years of "He lines up for the kick and ... it's Good ... ess" puns.
and I found this from Terez Owens (yes I know)
Broekhuizen could never rock those shades. Gibbons would have a seziure within 500 feet of the dreaded smurf turf.
He looks like a goofy kid, but as long as we don't have to go for it on 4th down on the 30 anymore I will be happy! Thats 3 commits in ten days! I really want a win on New Years Day, DB announcing RR's return and AA commits.
Also from Scout:
“I’ve also ran three fake punts this year, which is a good reason why Boise State likes me – my athletic ability."
As long as he doesn't pull a Mesko and have the option to fake and make the wrong read. lol
he is bring home some nice recruits lately. Can't wait to see what DT he pulls out of his hat.
...he'll be able to spell Dee and Vincent in the backfield, too! Amazing!
Looks like he is kicking off a tee. Sure hope he can do it from the ground as well.
ESPN seems to think he can. Their scouting report on him says that he gets very good height on his kicks off the ground and shouldn't have much of a problem transitioning to the college game.
Here's the link for anybody who has insider: http://insider.espn.go.com/college-football/recruiting/player?id=125652&_slug_=matt-goudis
Chris Sailer has a really comprehensive website for kicking prospects. Here's his write up on Goudis:
Matt is simply an outstanding all around kicker. He has a huge leg, makes FG's with ease off the ground, and kickoffs with the best of them. Mentally he is very strong showing great maturity to kick at the next level. Can also punt. Has all the tools to dominate the D1 level.
The site ranks him number 2 in the class and has a lot more information.
Thank you to both of you.
Through the uprights? I never thought I would hear that phrase again. Hopefully he can do those kinds of kicks when he gets to Ann Arbor.
FACT: uninformative thread titles are annoying
