I know this is intended sarcastically, but in a way it's true.  He isn't "automatically better," but the fact that he earned a scholarship is indicative of his talent and how he has performed in practice.  He earned a scholarship with his performance in college rather than by pushing around kids half his size in high school. To me that says something.

 - You can really feel the love in the room, especially for the Seniors. A tight team will go to fight with each other, be accountable, and pick each other up when needed. Saturday can't get here fast enough... Go Blue!!!

IIRC Graham had only played football a year or so in high school but it was enough to get him walk-on offers from Michigan and ohio.  Congrats to Graham for sticking with it and putting in the work to earn a scholarship.

but for the injury his senior year. Those offers might not have come from Michigan, of course, and he might still have chosen to walk on at Michigan rather than accepting a scholarship to a smaller school. Regardless, I have to think that this goes a long way toward validating his decision. Imagine being able to leave the meeting room and make that phone call home.

So does that mean they have a scholarship for this year then it's up in the air for the rest of their career, or is this a scholarship guaranteed for their career?

This is so cool. Especially happy for Kerridge, since judging by his comments, it sounds like he wasn't getting much if any family support with his tuition and was taking on the financial burden all on his own.

I love seeing captions be announced, that's a great honor, IMO. But this is always my favorite thing to see. These guys come to practice every day, typically start out as guys that simply are getting their ass-kicked on scout team with little to no pay off. They work their way up, play hard, dedicate themselves despite sometimes not having the pure athletic ability as some others. And the pay off: a free year of education and numerous other benefits that come along with being a scholarship athelete. These kids deserve it and I hope it's something that makes them and their families extremely proud. The hard work and dedication they've put into something to become, or more accurately, to earn the right to be good enough to be a scholarship athlete at a place like Michigan is something that speaks volumes. It speaks volumes about the kid as a football player and person, and bodes well for their future in whatever that future is.

Love seeing this.

Usually the announce the sponsors for the captions on gameday in the stadium I believe, or at the end of the broadcast on TV. Captains on the other hand, are what I meant to type. It's times like these when I really wish I could edit after someone responded. But it's times like these where, when someone else does it, my snark is happy you can't edit after someone responds. Really is a risk/reward system that's installed here.

IIRC, one year for walkon scholarships. They still have to prove themselves the next year, and scholarships need to be available. At some point, this may shift. For instance, I believe that somewhere along his career, they stopped giving Kovacs a scholarship on a yearly basis . . . it was obvious he was going to get a scholarship.

I think that Glasgow is going to end up being very good, and getting a scholarship the rest of his career. He was coached by Kurt Becker, former OG for Michigan, and then for the Chicago Bears for 9 years. As mentioned elsewhere, he came to the game very late, so has had a steep learning curve. My son (in 7th grade) has played tackle football 3 years, and is still learning. Glasgow played all of a year or two in high school. Becker saw the potential, and contacted Michigan. The rest will soon be history. Everyone knows about the stars coming out of high school (for instance, Kalis, Peppers, Hand.) Uncovering guys like Glasgow is harder to do, but adds to depth and can be a huge help to win championships.

Only one manager gets a scholarship for 1/2 of ONE semester tuition paid. They also must be a field (not equipment) manager as equipment managers are employees and field managers are volunteers. To be senior manager you must write an essay and be chosen as senior manager. All managers get rings as all football staff do.

Congratulations to all three of these players for being recognized for their achievements and contributions to Michigan football. This staff does an excellent job of rewarding hard work, and it is nice to see that hard work pay off for these guys.

this is a reflection of great work ethic, endeavor and perseverence.

There are other players who worked hard too and yet don't earn a scholarship. Also, some never play a down and just hit the practice as hard as they can.

It's no different in companies and organizations. Yeah, there are the really sharp guys and gals who score the touchdowns, win the big sale or deliver the complex project correct and on-time. But more often than not there's a ton of mortar and glue provided by others who don't get the same recognition.

Anway, this is a cool video. Congratulations to Joe Joe Graham.

Was nice seeing the O-Line get up there at the end and embrace Glasgow. I hope they bring that same caring bond to the field in 5 days. GO BLUE!

tribute in front of their teammates. I don't recall ever seeing a video of a team meeting where walk-on scholarships were announced. Usually the coach simply mentions it in a press conference. I think maybe because Hoke "feels good" about this team, he allowed it to be filmed. But maybe they just decided to grant access for pr purposes. Matters not. Nice to see and congrats to each guy.
