"All 11 current or former Michigan State players charged in the case have pleaded guilty and await sentencing." 11 out of 85. 13%. Dantonio is such a great father...

How can you be a student or an athlete when you are getting in trouble. I understand a coach cannot control everything their players do, but its odd that UM is getting punished for having too much control in some sense, while MSU sees no punishment for their very obvious lack of control.

Don't throw stones...because there's a lot of shit talking about our program going on right now. Every program has players that get in trouble. That's college football.

While it is strange that MSU is getting off relatively scot-free with respect to this assault, the NCAA has limited jurisdiction and my guess is that they have limited recourse against a school if its players go on a punching spree. Of course, if MSU is found guilty of any other type of violation that the NCAA has more control of (perhaps, I don't know, spending more than 20 hours a week doing "football-related" activities), the NCAA could consider this history of repeat violence as a lack of institutional control. So while MSU might be getting off relatively clean right now, I would be amazed if this didn't bite them in the end. And let's not forget, UM is a much, MUCH bigger fish in the sea compared to MSU. Same with FIU and SDSU. The NCAA knows that people care if a major program like UM, USC, or Alabama seemingly had an improper advantage - if MSU, SDSU, or FIU are guilty of breaking the rules, at best that equated to making some third-tier bowl game or winning 4 games instead of 3 in a season. History and prestige seems to matter to the NCAA, so MSU being overlooked somewhat may also be a by-product of their general irrelevance in football.

The NCAA has as much jurisdiction as they want. If the NCAA really wanted to pin something on a team and the school was not cooperating, they could take away their membership to the NCAA. That would mean any other teams that play them do not get that game recognized in their record, no one would be willing to play them and that school would fall apart. I doubt the NCAA would ever take such extreme measures, but they can do whatever they want to whichever schools they choose as long as that school is one of their members.

To be honest I’m a little tired of the MSU assault bashing stuff. I’m not saying that this isn’t a valid topic, as I think if this is any Big Ten team it has an effect on Michigan and can make a legit board topic. However, like Raback said above me, it’s bad to throw stones at a time like this. I’m not equating what’s going on with us to what’s going on with them, but neither is good. Let MSU fans can call us scUM (the worst insult ever) and our coach Dick Rod, but please leave the Dumbtonio (the second worst insult I’ve ever heard) and assault bashing stuff alone. I feel like our main objective is to worry about Michigan, not another school, because, to be honest ever sense we’ve started having losing seasons it seems like we are more worried about what’s going on at MSU then we used to be. I think winning will turn our focus back on ourselves, but just because we had a couple bad seasons doesn’t mean we need to be so caught up in this stuff. And yeah, I understand I only have like 50 points and don’t really have a rite of passage as some of the more prevalent around here, but I felt it should be said.

I have no problem with holding Misdemeanor State responsible for their actions. It was MSU fans who came up with "Remedial Robinson," and it was Tom Izzo who has used the Ed Martin scandal to build his basketball team into an elite program. And it is MSU fans who are the loudest about Michigan being "cheaters." So, I have no problem with creating a brand name for Misdemeanor State that causes future recruits and their parents to consider the possibility that MSU is not the best place to spend four years if you want to avoid a criminal envrionment.

the Freep article said that Chris L Rucker attempted to kick somebody, but missed. I bet that somebody was wearing a McNutt Iowa jersey, faked left then cut right for the easy reception.

if you've been following this team the last few years: 2003 LaTech 2003 Michigan (Chris Perry) 2004 Michigan (Braylon) 2005 Ohio State (Blocked FG) 2006 ND (the epic collapse) 2009 CMU 2009 ND 2009 Iowa 2009 Minn 2009 Texas Tech hopefully that's the last of it

It used to be more fun joking about the potluck melee, but our recent NCAA trouble (no matter how minor in comparison to the actual crimes at MSU) has taken the joy away.

Too bad DUMBtonio can't even keep his Misdemeanor State team out of jail! I would rather violate NCAA violations, see coach Rod draw out a messy contract-breach saga with WVU, see our players masterbate on porches, take money from ed martin, and shred practice records than have our players fight fratboys (which is the only real crime on this list). Our woes pale in comparison to that circus in East Lansing! They would trade us their troubles for ours in an instant. We have one problem to address: getting Michael Rosenberg fired its all just a free press bias and conspiracy. We do that and the program will be back to annual BCS bowl invitations period.
