The dude making my coffee this morning was insufferable.
Well said!
RCMB exsists for a reason.
To feed the Eternal Fires with sofas?
Did anyone else notice Cousins mentioned "couch"???

I personally thought RVB was very PC with the comments but hey...
To be fair, almost all the RCMB posters agree with you, OP just seems a little butthurt.
RCMB only seems to talk about Michigan these days, or ever.

If you're worried about people IRL recognizing you from your former username, why would you tell us it now?
If you want to see epic meltdowns/non stop bitching take NorthSideBlueFans advice and go to the RCMB.
Doesn't your PS defeat the purpose of changing your name? You just alerted everyone who knew you, so they still know you...
Ah, the power of editing is great.
They're BITTER today. Holy shit. Our fanbase will rage, but I get the impression we are self-critical to a fault. Are Spartans able to rationalize this? In other words, have you heard any Sparty wonder why they didn't have a "safe" return called when they were flagged for running into the kicker?
Let's try to be compassionate - we'd be a little upset today, as well.
It's awesome. They are losing it. I avoided Sparty today. Tommorrow I seek them out.
No offense to the non-alums while I go arrogant here but it must be like the day many of them got their skinny letter which started "We are sorry to inform you that that your application to the Universty of Michigan has been rejected..." It brought up that instituional rejection memory they never quite shook from their perky blonde heads (no offense to blondes)
Not offended but do want to point out ftr that there are some non-alums around here who did get accepted but ended up elsewhere. Just saying. Not every WalMart Wolverine could not get into U-M.
This is Michigan.

...
Tempting as it was, my football fandom couldn't be allowed to have the final say when it came time to choose a school.
(Brionte Dunn, take note....)
To be frank, I'd say that someone who got into Michigan and chose not to go is someone far dumber than someone who wanted to go to Michigan but simply couldn't get in. If you had the M in your hands and dropped it, you should be ashamed...
To be frank, I'd say that's the dumbest fucking thing I've seen today that wasn't on the RCMB. But since you aren't able to imagine any circumstances beyond your own, I'll add that I didn't chose not to go. It would be nice if 17yo's had that much control over things, but it sure didn't work that way in my case.
Maybe that came across as a little flamebait-ish.,, but I stand by my point. How you equate "circumstances beyond control" with someone who chooses not to go is beyond me. Clearly, if they chose not to go, it implies they had a choice. [And furthermore, as someone who didn't come from means but went to M anyway, I'd argue that you should want to make it happen no matter what. But I'll set that aside and stick with my original point, "choice."] I have friends who grew up Michigan fans and didn't get in, and then became State fans when they got in there. I'm not happy about it, but they were (literally) rejected by the school they loved, naturally felt scorned, and wanted to be a part of their new school... so I can at least understand it.
What I don't understand is someone with the opportunity to join one of the greatest universities in the world and CHOOSES (being the operative word) not to attend it. Obviously, circumstances outside the applicant's control wouldn't fall under the category of his "choice," would it? Because for it to be a choice, it has to be a viable option. Otherwise, it was never really a choice.
Additionally, you have no basis to assume I can't understand others' circumstances. Far from it--I just happen to think they there aren't very many that can justify passing on the University of Michigan. And if you think that somehow makes this "the dumbest fucking thing outside of RCMB," I suppose I'll have to respectfully disagree.
There's no apology in there. But if you read one in it, maybe that also explains how you saw things in my first post that weren't there. I absolutely stick by my point: choice + admittance + not going to Michigan = stupid.
unless you simply had a better educational opportunity. Chose West Point over Michigan...best decision I ever made. "= stupid"? Hardly. Doesn't mean I don't love UM any less; just had an opportunity of a lifetime for higher education AND future service. Passing on that would've been stupid.
Agreed. Some of us went to other private schools with our high ACTs. That doesn't mean we couldn't get in or love Michigan any less.
People choose their schools for a variety of reasons, personal, pragmatic, patriotic, and on and on. A lifelong, die hard Michigan fan, I had the opportunity to go to UofM for undergrad and graduate school, but, for reasons of my own, chose to go to other schools where I got an excellent education; I would choose to go to them again without thinking twice. Neither of those decisions diminished my love and support for Michigan in any way. It is self-evidently stupid to assume that every decision not to attend Michigan, despite the opportunity, is a stupid decision.
Come on this thread ain't all that bad.
Actually, it is. What's the point? Not to mention the fact that there have already been like 10 other threads created for this same purpose...
I kicked three Badgers and a Wolverine on my way into work.
..and got flagged, thereby ruining your shot at a BCS game.
Yes, but it might have been different if I hadn't fumbled my coffee, then thrown the paper into the sink instead of the recycling bin on my way out the door.
You mean you ran into three Badgers
Personally I thought it was bad from both sides. After the BCS selection show, my facebook newsfeed was barraged by some of the stupider Michigan fans I know saying things like "Suck it Sparty!" (completely unneccesary for one, and also stupid because we lost to them this year). And then there were Sparties of course whining incessantly and resorting to the classic "Michigan girls are ugly" and posting that godawful Drew Sharp article in their defense.
To me, it is what it is. MSU was better than us in the head-to-head game and that's all that matters to me. We're going to a better bowl, but I would have much rather have been playing in the B1G championship.
Most of myMSU friends and family have been tolerable. But I have one friend who is now on a crusade to overhaul the BCS (he never seemed to care until this year)
He actually told be "ont attempt to rationalize this" to which I made a snide comment about his IRrational thoughts.
MSU didn't deserve to play in a BCS bowl. They lost three games, and so other teams were ranked ahead of them and they didn't make the top 14. It's not like BCS bowls even had a choice to pick MSU for a BCS and passed them over for Michigan. MSU fans have very little reason at all to be upset that they didn't get a BCS bowl. Yet many of them seem to be.
The real reason they seem to be so upset is that Michigan got one and was undeserving. But Michigan didn't succeed at the expense of MSU in this case. In fact, you can make a case that Michigan going to the BCS actually helped MSU get a better bowl, because Michigan would not be competing with MSU for the Capital One/Outback/Gator bowls. The Spartiest thing to do is to root against your own interest. Plus, Michigan's in a BCS bowl with a very beatable opponent. Anyway, this benefits Sparty in every way except recruiting.
If Michigan had not been in the bowl picture this year, there would be very little yapping out of Spartyville--they would go to Florida and play in their bowl and that would be that...
BUT...with Michigan back in the bowl scene, and now going to a BCS and they don't, everything is magnified, the world is out to screw them, Michigan doesn't deserve it...blah blah blah.
Their obsession with all things Michigan is unmistakable and predictable. Spartan Football--GREEN with envy. (...and I do think those crumpled up letters from Ted Spencer wishing them well in whatever academic endeavour they pursue don't help things)
and then i am done with sparties.
Why the whining?? You won the division. You got the honor of playing in the first championship game. Take pride in that.
You had the channce to play in the "grand-daddy of them all"...the Rose Bowl!
Thats a BCS bowl last i looked.
You blew it. Plain and simple. So after choking at your chance you think the powers that be should swoop in and send you to some OTHER BCS bowl as a reward?? Would you feel the same way had it been the Wolverines in the exact same situation? Did'nt think so.
You took a stupid penalty that cost you the Rose bowl and now its everyone else's fault that you got left out?
As your QB stated.....the Wolverines were "home sitting on the couch" because we did not earn the right to play in that game. You did. And you LOST.
The bowl system is not fair. Just like life. Deal with it.
My only counter to to this is that VT also lost its automatic bid opportunity, and lost it rather impressively to Clemson, yet they are going to a BCS bowl. Their resume isn't close to that of MSU's, and yet they were chosen for reasons beyond what happened on the field. I honestly think the MSU faithful don't care that much that UM made the BCS if MSU had also made it, but when a system rewards being blown out in your conference championship while punishing another team for losing close, that doesn't feel right.
If MSU would have beaten ND and lost to UM then things would have been reversed. UM would have been in the B1G title game and MSU would have been home watching from the couch. If MSU is so upset with the way things turned out tell them to lose to us next year and things will be better!
Sparty wouldn't be an at-large pick. Book it.
That is what history and a good fanbase does.
but we need to stop being obsessed with MSU. I think since they beat us about 1/3 of the board is usually MSU-related
Bowl selection have been this way if we're talking about fairness.
I'd like for Michigan to have played in the B1G Championship Game...atleast lil brotha could have sat on the couch.
Whiner alert should be employed...
When I saw the Spartan player run into the punter near the end of the game I couldn't believe that Dantonio went for a punt block instead of setting up the return. After that, all I could think of was one of JL Smith's rants:
"The kids are playing their tails off and the coaches are screwing it up!"
I'm still not sold that Dantonio made the call. It could have been Lewis acting on his own to try and redeem himself for the 4th down screwup on Wisconsin's game winning drive.
Nevertheless, can one tell from watching the play if a punt block was on or not?
He made the call to block the punt.
He has to say that. There's no way any college coach hangs a player out to dry like that.
This picture never gets old.
Volcanic.
Can a guy's face get any redder than that? This picture is unreal. The difference between Hoke and Kelly dealing with their players is like night and day. Who would feel uncomfortable sending their kid to be coached by Hoke after seeing this difference? That, and it being Michigan, fergodsakes.
Admitting he made the call doesn't mean he actually made it. Not just me, but a lot of other people think Dantonio stepped up to take the bullet so his player wouldn't have to. Good arguments can be made both ways on whether to try to go for the block or not in that situation. Since it can be argued whether Dantonio made the call or not, that's why I asked if you can tell by watching the play (the actions of the 11 players) if a block was on or not.
I went back and rewatched it to me and it didn't look like a full blown punt block. The guys in the middle rushed pretty hard but the other guy on the outside took coverage and bailed- Lewis was the only one that seemed to go hard after the punter. I don't know if that's how punt blocks work...but it seems like if you're trying to block it you send everybody.
If so kudos to Dantonio for taking one for a player. If that's true, I think that's pretty cool and probably saved the kid a lifetime of humiliation.
I think it's fair to say that Sparty is butt hurt right now.
BTW I still don't get why they hate on us for having fans that didn't attend UM? Jealousy I guess...
Spartan fans are strangely proud of the fact that no one outside of East Lansing cares about their football team enough to fill up their stadium. Then they get really upset when bowl season comes around and they get passed over for a team that has a large nation-wide fanbase. It's quite ironic actually
but I don't even think they know what "Wal-Mart Wolverine" means, sometimes.
I went to a volleyball game in East Lansing with the student section and their "cheerleaders" (really just a gang of bros by the bleachers) chanted "Wal-Mart Wolverines" at us.
And by "us," I mean the pep band.
Gee, I rarely run into a "Wal-Mart Spartan"
Is this john ringle? I work at rays
Can we at least drop the "at home sitting on the couch" garbage? Can anyone point out an intact couch in East Lansing after last night? It is physically impossible to sit on a couch in EL after the greatest SPARTY NO moment to date.
Tulip Boy is assuming that Michigan players have the same obsession with MSMoo that Sparty has with UM.
Speaking as a UM grad and lifelong fan, I couldn't give a rat's ass what MooU does unless we are playing them.
little brother understands that even with a win head-to-head, he will never measure up against michigan.
temper tantrum follows.
U MAD, LIL BRO?
MSU says they got treated unfairly by the BCS. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
The usual arguments involve their stupid game-ending penalty this week, their lucky, deflected hail mary overturned-call pass a few weeks ago, their multiple blowout losses to teams beaten by UM and their failure to even meet the minimal 14th-or-better rank for a shot at the BCS
MSU’s counterargument asks us to focus just on the UM MSU game. OK, let’s do that, since it reveals another good reason for NOT giving MSU any special BCS consideration.
Their unsportsmanlike, intentionally injurious acts in that game bordered on overt cheating by coaches and players known for such behavior.
-Gholston’s two assaults with intent to injure on UM’s star QB. (First, Gholston jumped on a pile after a play was over, reached down over 3-4 teammates in order to grab Denard’s facemask. He then jerked it 180 degrees in a clearly intentional effort to injure the neck of the helpless QB on the bottom of the pile. Later he punched Lewan in the neck after a play was over.) Gholston should have been thrown out of the game for either offense, but was allowed to continue “playing.” Only the next week was Gholston suspended for a game, but that was far too late to compensate Michigan for the injuries.
- in one of half a dozen other personal fouls (and ignoring many others not seen or called), another MSU player once again hit Denard after the whistle. The assailant from MSU got only a 15 yard penalty. Denard had to leave the game—the equivalent of a game misconduct penalty for doing nothing.
So you MSU boosters out there---you tell me about “fair” treatment. Also, remember that these assaults were not isolated occurences from one or two players but may have involved direct or indirect approval of the coaches.
--The DC in that game exhorted the team to play “60 minutes of unnecessary roughness” (including time between plays)
-the HC already had a track record of players who intentionally injured the opposing team’s best players (recall Dantonio’s previous coaching of an OSU player who intentionally and repeatedly hit a Wisc QB in the throat in order to disable him).
-these coachesactively recruited felons and reinstated a dozen or more players involved in a group assault.
That’s not the kind of team that deserves prime-time TV coverage, which will inspire a new generation of young people.
So, when the MSU boosters cry about not being treated fairly, it reveals a complete unawareness of their own shameful public image. Their pathetic whining about fairness also reeks of hypocrisy
I say we whip em in the big house next season!
Pitchfork crowd 1 Me 0
I'm here for the negbang.
Don't make a shitty thread and then complain when it gets slammed. Mods should keep this thread up as a lesson
Not Complaining....I made a mistake, I'm owning up to it if anything.... Maybe I should go back to the guy who ran into Lloyd Brady at the Ohio Game....
Stand up and take your negbang like a man.
Just close your eyes and go to your happy place. It'll be over soon.
Is a stand up dude when it doesn't come to Michigan. He is like the noble General who knows the consequences of being "The Guy". If he did, cool. If he didn't call it, cool. Doesn't make a difference, we get to top our cereal and anything else you can think of with Sugar and hopefully get to hold that Sugar Bowl on January 3rd. The rest does not matter, I want the Big Ten to do good, and that goes for Sparty. I mean I cant stand the SEC but if the Big Ten went 1-9 and we were the only winners, then I am cool with that cause that means we won. I do not care about anybody else but Team 132. And for the last time, please no responses about how we dont deserve this bowl game, Virginia Tech does not deserve this bowl game. Can I get the resumes for Boise and Kansas State. No way both were getting in but damn man. I mean I havent seen one post (forgive me if Im wrong) about Alabama losing a three point game, not winning their conference, and still getting into the title game. Ohio 42 Michigan 39. Where was that game at? Well we all get screwed their Sparty but maybe its me but honestly you need to leave those weak excuses at home, go win the Outback Bowl and then come back strong next year. I mean I remember Urban Meyer on TV selling Florida like it was his own kid in '06 and then what happened next year. He and his Florida boys got handled in their own back yard by the very team that he snubbed. So please stop the complaining and go out and handle your business. Go Blue! Go Team 132!
P.S. By the way there is no chance the Spartans you walk out of Ann Arbor with a win next year! So you might want to start focusing on the present or Georgia is gonna run up and down the field and put up 43 points on you. LOL! If Georgia scores 24 I will be overly impressed.
Don't forget to add that Dantonio is still a douchebag.
