landing spot. will be interesting to see how he does.
How many different MSU v. OSU threads are really necessary today?
8. Then technically we would have enough to win.
Are more important than everyone else's, and must be heard and properly highlighted.
Yeah, except Bauserman is in.
He's playing much like Braxton Miller in this first series.
Did you see Bauserman in past games? Miller might be doing pretty bad but you cannot reasonably say that Bauserman gives them the best chance to win.
Bauserman has been absolutely terrible thus far, as well. There aren't a lot of answers there in Columbus, apparently.
I honestly can't tell if OSUs defense is better than we thought, or MSUs offense isn't that great, or some combo. I really felt like I'd know more about who was good, who was average, etc in the Big Ten after this week and through two of the games I was really eyeballing hard (MSU/OSU and Ill/NW) I have no real clarity. I'm starting to think e entire Big Ten outside of Wisconsin is extremely blah.
Both teams are just playing garbage. Of course it'll be a better OSU team when they play UM and blablabla.
MSU's offense is bad. They played about the same this game as they did against ND. Cunningham is good, Cousins blows hot and cold, they have a good group of RBs which doesn't matter because the OL does not block for them.
Their defense looks pretty good, though.
State throws a pick and Bauserman trots out.
but the defense is holding it's own - thanks to stupid playcalling and redzone turnovers by MSU. It should be 14-0 MSU right now. Derp Dantonio & Co.
are setting offensive football back about a century. MSU is trying to give this one away.
The more I watch other big ten teams play the more I like our chances in conference play.
In related news, Illinois over Northwestern, 38-35. Scheelhaase led a game-winning drive with a minute on the clock. High scoring games between teams that are playing us equals lots of opportunity on offense. The Mattison Effect faces two tough road tests in the next two weeks against two reasonably talented QBs.
that'll be a fun one.
Bauserman looks like a man amongst boys out there. That has everything to do with him being like 30 years old and nothing to do with how he is playing.
the Lions QB is much much younger than Ohio State's.
why is a low scoring sec game an exciting defensive battle, but a b10 is a snoozefest.
Don't let the TV man tell you what to believe!
Because this isn't really an exciting defensive battle. There aren't a lot of turnovers, or anything. It's just a completely inept offensive struggle.
Because neither team has an o-line.
The announcer just called the OSU offense "staggeringly pathetic." This is an understatement.
Maybe so, but Matt Millen calling anything football-related "staggeringly pathetic" is like Stevie Wonder telling someone to get their eyes checked.
outside of Wisconsin and Nebraska and possibly Michigan, the Big Ten really does suck this year. I also really thought NW and ILL would have played a lot better than they have. Jesus.
You waching this game Brionte? Ohio's not Ohio anymore. The fans will be calling for the coach's head. Very unstable enviroment. Just sayin'.
I agree. What's the over/under on number of losses that gets Fickell fired? I think two more should do it (so 4 losses). I also think they'll be lucky to beat anyone with this offense.
This is why we have the open thread.
Tears of unfathomable sadness award?
I'm trolling the live thread as we speak! Join the party!
Comment From Realistic Buck
We need to hire a Brady Hoke type guy as coach.
That OSU loses its next 3 (Nebraska, Illinois & Wisconsin). I also wonder what the O/U will be when Ohio plays Penn State.
Does Millen get paid every time he says, "Meet me at the quarterback"?
(41-14 Wiscy heading into the 4th)
Of course, it's easier to "root" for tOSU when you're not actually watching them.
"So, um, next week, how about some open QB tryouts?"
Or find anything resembling an offensive linemen?
Its actually hard to tell how bad the OSU QBs are, since they have a Spart lineman on their back by the time they take their 3rd step.
I am eager to see what Martin & Co. can do against these guys.
Learn to love it.
Rodriguez and Magee were at least running plays where you could say "if they'd run that better, it would have worked really well. I understand what they're trying to do."
This is just staggering incompetence. I have no idea what their game plan is supposed to be.
I don't think fickell understands the concepts of "screen pass" and " timeout"
Amazing given the names on OSU's OL.
Might not even get 100 yards of total offense this game.
Bauserman just got destroyed by an MSU defender. I love seeing tsio suffer, regardless of the opponent.
I hope Ohio still sucks this bad in November.
Wow, Cousins looks like ass today.
Let's not get too cocky- the BIG is definitely down this year and OSU looks pretty awful, but a talented freshman can mature quite a bit (at least to competency) over the course of a season and we have yet to see what Michigan will do against a really good defense, unless you count ND. I don't.
I still feel better about Michigan's chances, but I want to see them beat a team like MSU or NEB before I say that they will break such a long streak of losses to OSU.
burtal to watch
Sounds like you have some vomit in your mouth. I'm going to reuse that. Thank you.
After today, my expectations for us in B1G play has increased. OSU looks awful, MSU also looks pretty bad offensively, and they're defense looking this good all goes back to OSU being awful. Illinois isn't overwhelming and we can definitely beat them if we play well, and Northwestern w/out Persa is just plain bad. If Wisky can destroy Nebraksa that would make it that much better.
Any chance for a "Sparty NOooooo!" ?
Looks like too little, too late for OSU. Even if they score here I don't see them getting this one back.
That being said, a sloppy, low scoring game is just about the best case scenario we can get out of a meeting between tOSU and MSU.
From the Eleven Warriors live blog
Comment From enzo
bauserman forgets the 9 foot recvr red shirted this year
but the 'Freude over at the Eleven Warriors live blog is delicious. Highly recommended.
2 team of incredible suck
Cripple fight? TIA
Tsio going down in flames. Suck it you scarlet and gray cheaters.
MSU is playing like garbage and OSU is playing like more garbage. And most people who watch college football know that OSU will be getting 4 very talented players back next week. So MSU might get the, "Well they didn't play OSU at full strength" treatment. Muahahha that sucks.
Getting Herron and Posey back will help Osu but unless an Ohio QB can find Posey I'm not very fearful of their offense.
I don't think so. Meanwhile, back to the game MSU 10, OSU 0 with 2:50 to play.... YAY!
I love that Millen said this game really opened some eyes about MSU. Because, yes, beating OSU's JV team by 10 is a sign of a great squad.
Fickell and Dantonio are bffs! He called off the dogs! They could've scored 40!
This is how Bucks' fans must have felt watching us the past three years. That LB could only manage 10 points says a lot about them.
To feel that way
I thought the time management was bad during the OSU-Miami game. Jesus Christ in a speedboat, this might be worse.
A timeout up by 2 scores with :28 seconds left
Amazing. How'd they get a home team scoreboard inset into the field on the 50 yard line?
Nice timeout Dantonio you jackass. What an arrogant asshole
WHOOOOAAHHH LOOK OUT SPARTY!
Things could get mighty interesting, but probably not. If anyone can find a way to lose a game with 10 seconds left it's Sparty (or ND).
Way to fall timeout....
Sparty will be more insufferable than usual. They were able to beat OSU in Columbus, ect... If there were ever a year that Michigan has to beat MSU, it's this one.
Oh, it's already started. Select quotes from RCMB:
"Take that SOS and shove it up your ass. We won bitch AT OSU"
And my personal favorite...
"what you just saw was the Defense playing a break through game - they were dominant against a traditionally top tier B1G team... how can you not be happy with that?"
OMG...we just beat tOSU 10-7 at tShoe. Held them to just 7. Who in the B1G can possibly beat us? We should be in the top 10 now. It will be a blue wall conspiracy if we are not. I can see the headlines now: UM pastes Minny. MSU just barely squeaks by OSU. I mean c'mon they are so biased against MSU!! It just sucks!
I already posted this in another thread, but....yeahhhh....
Wow, how did OSU not recover that?
They did not want to let go of the c-notes in their other hand
Buckeyes celebrating no shutout since 1982..
With how much he hates Michigan? I would not at all be surprised if that was 100% true, which would be hilarious to me. Maybe he wants to prove something about MSU becoming a big name program, but at the end of the day he fits the mold of an OSU guy to me.
but at the end of the day he fits the mold of an OSU guy to me.
A condescending, egotistic, delusional asshole? I couldn't agree more.
The way he handled the Glenn Winston matter and having the bus pick up Rucker at the jail while on their way to Iowa City says it all. He certainly learned his lessons from Tressell well. He's the obvious choice.
OSU will lose their next 3
10/8 @ #8 Nebraska
10/15 @ #24 Illinois
MSU will also lose next 3
10/15 #19 Michigan
10/22 #7 Wisconsin
10/29 @ #8 Nebraska
This will be a fun month
That would certainly be a wonderful month - boards would get very interesting
When your band plays the fight song just because you complete a pass and aren't sacked.
With a game like that they probably needed to get it in at some point, just so they didn't forget it.
The OSU fight song makes my soul bleed. I'd rather listen to Tween Wave than crappy brass band music. Thank goodness for the mute button.
Both teams were horrible. TWIS for tSIO for sure. No coach, no QB, porous O-line... Sparty looked only marginally better. The B1G is awful but that's good for us.
Taking bets on who will replace Fickell:
Michael Haywood the guy fired by Pitt after one day on the job
George Oleary - resigned as Notre Dame football coach five days after being hired, admitting he lied about his academic and athletic background.
MSU's D scares me a bit, but that's about the only thing making me nervous at this point. Really hope OSU doesn't make the jump to mildly capable on offense once those players come back from suspension.
They are good, but seriously, they played some really really crappy offenses. Coming into this game, the highest ranked O (in terms of total yards/game)they faced, besides ND was OSU with the lofty national rank of 91. Then there was CMU in the bottom 10 of the nation, and FAU dead last in the nation. I'm not sure about Youngstown because I didn't look it up. The one good O they faced, they still got smacked pretty well even though they held the yardage low. Pretty good D, but I still don't know if they truly deserve the #1 ranking.
Fickell looks like some amalgam of Adam Sandler, and Dantonio still looks like a box of MaxiPads.
snake faces, is all I need to get threw my week.
Best possible outcome: One team loses and looks awful, while the winner only looks mediocre. A decent team would have beaten State soundly today. Their ND loss was not a fluke.
Yes, I'm biased.
I understand that Taco pants transfered to tOSU this year, waaaaaa sports bandaging degree-- go get it Taco.
think they both suck ass.GO BLUE!!!
After the CO game last week, I thought the OSU QB may be good enough to move the offense and get some points. I guess not. Only surprising thing is how weak the spartans offense really looks. As long as Michigan can score some points on their defense, I think we will have a good chance to beat them in East Lansing! Michigan just needs to take it one game at a time. No let down at Northwestern!
Is non existent..For all the talk about Michigans struggling passing game, the MSU running game is far worse!
who in this conference is good?? wisconsin and....?
we already knew that purdue, minnesota, iowa, indiana and northwestern really sucked in one way or another but then today penn state nearly coughs one up to indiana (that team that lost to north texas), nebraska just got crushed by wisconsin, and michigan state and ohio state both played a game that both teams deserved to lose (10 points ain't enough to win against a good team, nor is 2 YPC)
I mean, sometimes I think we're a clear cut #2 or #3 in this conference behind wisconsin and maybe nebraska
And I don't think Iowa and Northwestern are all that bad - certainly in the same strata as we are. Northwestern is downright good with Persa. As for Nebraska, they got smoked by a top ten team. They are not a top ten team. They were overrated, but I wouldn't put them behind us.
We may be #2 or 3 in the B1G, but it's not clear cut by any means. I'm beginning to think it may not be crazy to think about hoping for a trip to Indianapolis. But let's beat a B1G team that didn't lose handily to an FCS team first.
