Thoughts on Future Maize outs

Submitted by 2Blue4You on
Since most all points regarding Michigan, QBs, WMU, Rosenburg have been exhausted this week I had a thought about Maize outs. The student section seems to be great at the Maize out while the rest of the crowd seems to struggle w/ it. Whether it is uninterested people or as some claim that there is no Maize Jersey that is universally appealing, people just don't seem to pick it up (maybe it's the state b/c the Red Wings didnt' seem to do much of their wearing red in the playoffs compared to Calgary a few years ago in the playoffs). Anyway, my thought was the student section continues to wear Maize and stand out from the rest of the Stadium. The rest of the Big House crowd wear blue (ex. a jersey) to make a stark contrast of the Maize vs. Blue. Blue seems to be more universally appealing and many people have home Jerseys. Or maybe we scrap the idea all together but either way the marketing of these types of events needs to improve. My thoughts, not yours. Just killing time until the morning. Go Blue.

Student section Maize-out with rest-of-crowd Blue-out works for me. I know few older, nonfemale alums with any interest in wearing maize to the game. When it gets colder, there's not much wearable maize in my wardrobe, but I've got tons of blue - don't know about others, but that's how I see it.

Did you catch the Boise State game last night? Even though it was pretty ugly, it was amazing to see the orange, white, and blue stripes of fans that they produced with handing out free shirts. Free shirts* go a long way in making things look good from above. *As long as they don't have awful ads on them, of course...

..and thought how cool it would be if we could have the entire Big House in maize AND blue, alternating by section. But as the OP points out... can't seem to get ONE color right. I think a small part of this is that the annual "student shirt" is marketed as such. But that's a pretty minor thing, really. There's certainly plenty of maize attire to be had in this town. It is going to take someone making a big donation and giving out free shirts or towels or something. Although they're for a great cause, I was kinda bummed to see the "All In" towels were gonna cost $7 each. I'm sure we'll see a ton of them, but 100,000+? Not even close, sadly.

That's a great idea. What's even better is, as long as we continue the Blue Block M in the student section at select games, the rest of the crowd wearing Blue would stand out even more as it would outline the Maize.

I like the blue idea. It is much easier in the winter (most people do not really want to buy maize winter coats). I emailed the athletic department and asked about thundersticks (I was working on an idea to get 100,000 people making noise in Michigan Stadium w thundersticks) but they told me it was against Michigan Stadium rules. I can get them with printing for less than $1.00/pair.

I didn't see the Boise game, maybe they've found the secret, but even when people bought into them fairly well (Michigan State cerca 2003 for example) the blue didn't stand out from the crowd. The reason a Maize out is so successful is that the yellow really jumps out at you. I think it may have something to do with the blue being so dark but I'll end my speculation there since I'm partially colorblind . . .
