Thoughts on The Big Ten Network

Submitted by jb5O4 on
I was a student at Michigan when The Big Ten Network came on the air. I despised the channel very much at the beginning especially when Comcast wasn't showing it because I would miss games that would normally air on ESPN in Ann Arbor. But I am really starting to like this network. The HD broadcast is crystal clear, nearly as good as any other network. They also have shows that feature academic on goings at the various Big Ten schools. Now that I live in Louisiana I would not be able to catch some of the Michigan games that would not be shown in the broadcast region down here.

I'm glad that Comcast got it a year ago or so and that they also got espn 360 as i live wa. state. And its nice to see michigan related events like hockey, wrestling in general, and the classic michigan football games.

GOOD: B10 gets more money and exposure. There studio analysts are usually pretty solid. NOTE - I'm biased to Jimmy Jackson being from Toledo. BAD: Most of the packaged stories they do. A lot of it is silly and ackward to watch. UGLY: NOT THE FEMALE HOST ON BIG TEN TONIGHT!!

I like that it shows classic games and allows more Big Ten games to be aired, but I'm not a fan of their shows like Friday Night Tailgate or the season previews they did. Their Michigan practice coverage disappointed me. They didn't really say anything that I didn't already know.

I just bought the sports tier on Comcast this week so I can get the BTN for this week's game. From what I can see, Comcast doesn't show any of the overflow games when multiple games are being covered in the same time slot. Does anybody know if I will get the Michigan game this week if I only get the primary game shown?

I coach football in Oregon. On our coaching staff we have a guy from Iowa (Hawkeye fan), A die hard Penn state guy (loves Joe Pa), A big time Ohio State fan, Me a Michigan fan and then a loser who loves the Fighting Irish. All of us get the Big Ten Network and we all love it.

Since almost all meaningful meets have B-10 teams in them, they have a good one each week. Plus they are covering a meet the HS team I help coach will be in sort of a pregame for. I'm hoping they put a little of that on, our kids could use some exposure.

I love it. The impact it had for me last year can't be understated - it would have been much, much harder to be a U-M b-ball fan outside of Ann Arbor without the BTN. Also, I thank Mediacom for not picking it up until after the 2007 season - it spared me from actually witnessing THE HORROR.

The good can be found above. The bad: - Not enough Olympic sports, - STOP SHOWING THE GODAWFUL CAMPUS PROGRAMING - Indiana and Purdue from 2007 isn't a classic game, I don't care what you say - DON'T TELL ME WHAT'S ABOUT TO HAPPEN IN MY CLASSIC GAME KTHXBAI Wishlist: - A countdown show. Top Ten on the NFL Network is wonderful, watchable filler... a Big Ten version would be tops. - More features on the universities that aren't advertisements. I'd love to learn about the history of Penn State, for example. - Produce original documentaries in the style of HBO's "The Rivalry".
