Those who stay will be champions(or just some observations)

Submitted by dundee on
"those who stay will be champions" let me opine on a few observations of the last 2 yrs of football and why i am more excited about RR and the 2010 season than ever. 1. when the Mich. people decided to go with RR. they went with a coach who brought in a system that changed 100+ yrs of power running smash mouth football. it will take more than even 4 yrs to completely overhaul the team. 2. we have only 69-71 scholarship athletes on the team(i have heard all the numbers from 69-71 from different sports commentators) so obviously we don't have the talent to match up with most teams. 3. we have the 3rd DC in as many yrs. 4. we are starting a true freshman at the most important position in college sports! 5. we (being mich.) get everyones best game and while not as many wins as i would have liked we were in just about every game with what most posters agree are less than talented people on defense save for a few. 6. our team is very young, we started WAY too many true freshman, redshirt freshamn, first time starters, and walk-ons to really expect the results most of us hoped for after a 4-0 start. 7. we just held the hated OSU buckeyes to only 2 offensive scores and most of the day moved the ball at will. except for the 5 turnovers we most likely win. 8. and my final observation(at least for this post) since we have changed 100+ yrs of football and some are calling for RR's head. i wanna ask. "who do you get from here"? we went to the spread so my guess is to still be competitive for the next 2 yrs you have to stay with a spread coach. if your gonna stay with a spread coach "why not stay with the disigner of the system"? if you go back to our tradition football "are we gonna give him time to re-install the power guys and at least 2 more yrs of losing football"? "if we do go with a new spread guy and he has success next year, is it the result of the new coach or the result of the 3rd yr of the system and players to run the system"? thanks for taking the time to read my observations and rantings.

ugh. not another thread like this. i can tell you who they want. Harbaugh, Miles, or some mysterious "michigan man". Funny thing is that Harbaugh and Miles mad really bad calls that cost themselves the games yesterday.

that's what i keep hearing also! but miles and the rest change the system once again and put us back 1-2 yrs. for the record i wanted RR at least 2 yrs before any real talk of Carr leaving. i guess i should have really asked is. "if the mich. peoploe don't raelly like RR and his system and his not being a "mich" man are they also willing to have several more losing seasons just to get their man in"?

That's the thing I never really got about the firing argument. I overheard someone at an alumni bar this weekend saying, "I'm just so tired of watching bad football..." as if firing RR would press some sort of reset button, supersize our O-line, and turn Forcier into a towering, 6'6" pocket prodigy. Couple that with the guy next to me monologuing his Danny Tanner-esque heart-to-heart of, "you know, I just don't think they can bring him back for another year, kid" and the guy thumping around the NYT RR-doesn't-get-it opinion piece around like it was gospel and it felt like bizarro world. Thankfully, Sailor Bill already took care of the speculation bug, but had he not, could these fancy wine-tailgating alumni types really cling to the "tired of watching bad football" notion and not look like complete, uber-entitled asses while doing so?

"They" who? I don't want either of those guys and I'm perfectly happy to see RR succeed. Bill Martin appears to be behind him and Mary Sue Coleman hasn't said one word on the subject that I'm aware of. The only "they" I've heard mention those names are the asshat sports casters down here in Columbus but those guys also think OSU dominated yesterday so I'm assuming they're also smoking "buckeye" leaves.

did you even read his post? I assume not. I'll highlight the portion for you.

This board has been full of people calling for his head. Go talk to tomhagen sometime.

Why would it take more than 4 years to get acclimated? And Rich Rod better hope it doesn't, because if he's not back in the Big Ten race by 4 years, he'd certainly be out. For the record, I don't think it will, I think this team will be fine on the spread next year. We pretty much we're this year, we just lack scholarship defensive players (Like you mentioned), which led to our record.

Was Michigan a power running smash mouth football team prior to Bo? It seems that many people associate the beginning of UM football with Bo only because Bo ushered in a new coaching philosophy at a time the team was pretty lazy.

we're pretty up on the reasons you state. Certainly Miles didn't help his case any the way he singlehandedly cost his team a shot at beating Ole Miss, but it's a moot point anyways; in 'Breaking News' yesterday, the AD stated coach Rodriguez would be retained at head coach.
