Thomas Rawls runs for...wait for it.....

396 YARDS and 3 TDS!

I understand UM is looking at him but I don't see it has offered yet. Anyone have any more details on the kid? Is he a kid who bleeds blue or does he fall into the category of wanting to go to Lansing and play for a team with a longer list of indictments and arrests than bowl game appearances?

Rawls is a big favorite of Sam Webb (Flint connection) and his coach is Fred Jackson's son so the Blue ties are in place.  Grades and test scores are in fact the only hold up and our recent problems in that area hang like a cloud over Rawls' recruitment.  If not for Witty, Conelius, Kinard, Rogers and of course (sigh) Demar Dorsey we would surely have already offered Rawls and probably have a commitment, but the APR monster looms in the shadows.  Also, as Magnus has pointed out many times, we need to sign guys who will actually get on campus and stay in school/on the field.

That said I really hope Rawls can get it together because he has mega-beast potential and his coach has said, "Thomas is the greatest back to ever play in the state of Michigan.  He is a combination of Barry Sanders and Jim Brown but with greater speed.  Even my father is incapable of overestimating the potential of this excellent young man."

While it is important to recruit kids that will qualify, non-qualifiers have no effect on the APR since they are never technically enrolled at school.  Therefore, Dorsey, Witty, Kinnard, Conelius, and Rogers did not penalize us.  I think the point that Magnus was making is that its really difficult to build your depth chart and fill a 2-deep when you are giving scholarships to kids that wont make it, preventing kids of similar skill who would qualify from filling those spots.  Obviously that hurts on D where it feels like we are paper-thin on numbers and talent, but at a position like RB and with a stud like Dee Hart coming in, losing Rawls due to him not qualifying would not have the same negative effect.

At first i thought this was a real quote and i was so excited that Fred Jackson's son has taken after him. This is hilarious and awesome all at the same time. Well done.

Here's to TR getting those grades up permanently.

because he reminds me of Mark Ingram. And could be a solid contributor either to back up Dee Hart or could be a solid back up plan if Dee Hart doesn't come here.

I'm sorry, but I couldn't resist.  I'm lil jack, Fred Jackson and I never said that comment that Brew City Blu said.  I do believe rawls is an excellent running back and can compete any where in the country, but please don't put words in my mouth.  Thank you and GO BLUE
