Thomas Rawls making Hoke look bad (again)

Submitted by BrokePhD on

Rawls is having a monster game: 143 rushing, 43 receiving, 2 TDs. Still 12 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Can't believe he wasn't drafted.

I've heard Rawls had some off the field issues and injuries that kept him off the field his junior year before he transferred. Hoke did a good job of making himself look bad but Rawls might not be one of those things.

People seem to like to rewrite history and conveniently forget about this. He plead guilty to a misdemanor after being charged with 3 felonies connected to a theft at a casino during his last semester at Michigan after he announced his transfer. He was suspended at CMU for multiple games at the beginning of the season due to it. If he were still at Michigan, I have a hard time believing he wouldn't have been suspended for longer, possibly the season. And then to top it off, he was suspended for CMU's bowl game due to academics. Quite honestly, I think the transfer was for the best for him and Michigan. Refresh the history here:

The RB position is one of the last positions I would think Hoke had any direct influence over. We all knew Hoke had his background on defense and Fred Jackson was the RB coach. Besides, we had Denard during that time who was pretty much a running back in his own right. Rawls was never going to be a featured back in the spread offense we were running at the time either.

it's a lot on Rawls, too. The guy ran slow and soft the ENTIRE time he was here. That's not coaching but the player. I'm sure he wasn't coached up to standard but it's on Rawls, too. To ignore his atrocious effort is purposefully misrepresenting the point.

My God ... are we going to have this thread every goddamn time Rawls has a big game? I, for one, enjoy seeing him get a chance to prove himself. Yeah, it would have been great if he had developed as well and played as strong during his time at Michigan. The Hoke era is over. Get over it already.

Finished with 209 on the ground and a TD. Added 46 receiving yards and another TD. The kid is legit. Over 600 yards rushing on 101 carries with only 4 starts and some garbage time action.

guys who take the field every week were Hoke recruits. They bought what Hoke was selling about Michigan and despite the bullshit about Hoke's country club, these kids have shown they are hard workers who want to win. This is what Hoke left the Wolverines. I don't give a fuck about a RB who had trouble with the law and left the program.

Give me a break. That team was led by Denard Robinson, RR's recruit, who led the B1G in total offense for the second year in a row, despite being misused by Hoke and Borges. I do give Hoke credit for bringing in Mattison, who was the second key factor for that team.

If you take away Robinson, that team probably struggles to make a bowl. And of the players you mentioned, Carr recruited RVB and Hemingway but never coached them. RR brought in Martin. Molk was a walk on.

I always judge a back by how hard they are to catch and how much it hurts when you do.  I thought Rawls seemed not that hard to catch but a bitch when you did. Of course a guy like that would have his success determined by his surroundings.  And that is how it has been playing out. He ain't Reggie Bush, but with a guy like that, sometimes it doesn't matter. Good for him, I'm rooting for him.

And I wonder how many diamonds in the rough will also never see the light of day because they were here before Harbs. Again, good for TR.

Are we going to beat this dead horse again every time Rawls takes the field and plays well? Let's let it go, let Rawls enjoy his career and let Harbough lead us to the promised land.

Today, Funchess led his team in receiving with 64 yds. and a TD, as well. I think these stories should be about the player and their successes, and not an opportunity to rehash the past.

Hoke makes Hoke look bad. I'm betting when he's on the radio this week he'll probably defend Meyer's play calling.

I don't understand why people post these threads. The fact that Rawls even made an NFL roster is an indictment of how Rawls was coached and/or utilized. Just like how Mike Cox making a roster was an indictment of RR.
