alternate headline: man does job
Do you think the Yankees will resign Derek Jeter? There are some rumors now that the Yanks are telling him to shop around.
I really think there isn't enough to conclude that this game isn't considered monumental to Rich Rod.
the sweater vest made of point of saying he will beat michigan in his first address to a stadium of rabid fans
I know that may sound silly, or it may be playing to the masses but he did it
does rich rod have a similar moment? honestly, I know its silly and I have no idea what he does behind closed doors, but as of right now he is 0-5 against our 2 biggest B10 rivals and is entering the game as an enormous underdog
Am I missing something? When did Notre Dame not become a rivalry? I keep hearing the "0-6" against our two main rivals stat. Even if they are down, I don't see how it's not relevant to include them. I know I hate those guys and it means something to me to beat them.
is a huge rivalry
but I did say B10 rivals, the ones we have to beat in order to win the B10 championship in order to get to the BCS in order to play for the national championship
I know exactly what you said. But you said it in the context of Rich Rod doesn't "get" the rivalries we have. My point is that you can't cherry-pick stats for the sake of argument. He's 2-1 against ND, which is, as you agree, a huge rivalry. So this meme that he doesn't "get" rivalries is bs.
there is but one true meme and its name is national championship
everything else is bs
as he had zero NCs on his resume.
but different era
Bo understood all he could control was winning the B10 and he did (13/20)
there was not a BCS system set up, he could not control the voters and who they awarded the national championship to
“If you look at the Harris poll, two-thirds of them really don't know what they're doing. About one-third does, but two-thirds don't,”
To Hell with Notre Dame.
Know your audience.
OSU fans demand victory in The Game. Tressell knew that, and is enough of an accomplished coach to have provided some auxiliary benefits beyond his record against Michigan. You really think that Cooper was fired because of his 8-4 record his final season? "2-10-1" is probably a more notorious statistic in the minds of OSU fans than the number of national championships they've won.
Michigan fans don't operate in the same vacuum, and I don't need a silly little speech to remind me that our head coach is doing everything he can to win EVERY game. What happened to Cooper will never happen here.
Does Lloyd have a similar moment? Does Moeller? How about Bo? Nope.
A Bo moment ? He lived it 365 days a year. Everybody knew how Bo felt about Ohio State and The Game, most importantly his players.
dude...the game that gave rebirth to michigan football
To motivate his team, Schembechler had the number 50 displayed everywhere in the Michigan locker room, and taped to every player's practice uniform
Yeah, but in the same sense, I haven't seen enough that he gets pumped over it also. I live in Ohio, which sucks. But everytime they show a interview with sweater vest or quotes, he is talking about the game with great emotion. Reminds me of Bo and Carr. I guess that's what I'm looking for is some old school talk.
I'm having a problem imagining Tressel showing "great emotion" over anything. I don't live in Ohio so I don't see any local coverage or interviews, but from what I've seen, sweatervest is not the emotive type
I haven't seen enough that he gets pumped over it also. I live in Ohio, which sucks.
Aaaaaaand that's why you wrote this stupid post. I'm sorry that your coworkers and neighbors make fun of you for being a Michigan fan, but honestly dude just suck it up. Rich Rodriguez isn't responsible for your personal emotions.
sweatervest doesn't talk about anything with "great emotion"
"I live in Ohio, which sucks."
The "which sucks" part is redundant.
You're right, Rodriguez doesn't care about the rivalry and just views this as another game. In his entire existence as a coach in football, he has never been at a school that had a hated rival and thus will never understood what it means. I'm sure he gameplanned more for BGSU, because he probably vowed to never lose to a MAC school ever again.
What a bum!
If not for WV blowing it in the Backyard Brawl, he wouldn't even be at Michigan.
Why do you think he's so insistent on having multiple QBs that can run the system? He learned from that mistake bc when Pat White went out they were hopeless. OTOH this year we won a game with the backup in bc the offense was still able to work.
I really don't see your point. Does the fact that he lost to Pitt mean that he doesn't understand our rivalry with OSU?
Given what was going at at WVU, there's no way Rod would have been back there for the 2008 season. The Pitt game (and the reaction from the athletic department) was perhaps the last straw, but he had already decided to get out of there by that point.
You are correct in that there were problems between Coach Rodriguez and the WVU AD well before the Pitt game. However, if WV wins, there's no way he leaves before the national championship game. Michigan would never have waited that long and he would not be here.
Knowing a number of WV alumni, from everything I've heard they have additional consternation about him due to his seeming approach to Pitt as just another conference game.
They lost Pat White, but they still should never have lost that game. They were in trouble from the start, Pitt was just better prepared and he was outcoached.
What exactly would you like him to do?
How can you judge his intensity anyway?
He has an "It seems to me" detector.
You see, it seems to him that RR doesn't plan for the game all year. He would like to see more emotion out of him.
I don't know when the DERP montage meme started, but I like it.
I don't think we will have objective evidence that he cares about this game. UNACCEPTABLE
What would you like him to do? Swear on TV? Beat his wife? Perhaps a crown of thorns?
/s for the challenged
How about the video of him on the sidelines last week blowing a gasket, I believe after a Michigan touchdown
and my work is already done. Now can somebody please get me a coffee with cream?
would you also like sugar?
Sigh. I am happy, so blissfully happy, that we have a coach who doesn't make idiotic, inflammatory comments a la Hope and Dantonio.
I'd also add that it would have been completely insane for RR to make any promises or guaranties throughout his tenure so far. As much as I love Michigan and hate OSU, talent-wise, they're just on another level.
and a troll.
One game does not define a coaching career. Bo dropped a bunch of games to unranked nobodies. I was a student listening on the radio when #1 ranked Michigan lost to Minnesota in 1977. He did the same thing in 1976 to Purdue.
Stuff happens in football. Deal with it.
Unranked Wisconsin 21, #1 Michigan 14 in season opener.
I remember all three losses very well. In our haste to restore the traditions of Michigan football, let us not forget that one of those traditions under Bo was to consistently lose our bowl game, even when we were favored. I remember hearing every excuse from rustiness after tOSU to not being accustomed to playing on natural grass.
The obvious response is "at least we got to the bowl games" but back then it was basically a two team conference. PSU wasn't there, Wiscy was a doormat, and Iowa was an afterthought.
The program was slipping in 2007 and we hit rock bottom the following year. Am I happy with the progress thus far? No but changing leadership at this time is asking for more uncertainty. If we are still having this debate a year from now, I think almost everyone will agree a change is needed.
That sort of loss is UNACCEPTABLE!
it was to go to the National Championship!!!
Talking smugly in an attempt to incite a board meltdown.
Gotta call 'em like I see 'em.
but you simply CANNOT lose that game if you're Rod."
So by your standards, Bo Schembechler simply CANNOT lose to MSU, Iowa, Purdue, Ohio State, or Brigham Young in 1984, regardless of the fact that his starting QB was out with a broken arm. That's just a silly excuse.
Not only that, but Bo Schembechler took undefeated teams with a chance at playing for a national championship into the Ohio State game four times—1970, 1972, 1973, and 1974—and FAILED to beat Ohio State in any of them. That certainly foreshadowed something, all right. Bo clearly wasn't the right guy to coach Michigan.
In my 30 years as a Michigan fan, we've lost "critical" games every single year except 1997. I remember in particular many heart-stabbing losses to Notre Dame and USC. Through Bo, Mo, Lloyd, and RR. If this is now the standard for firing a coach, we might as well shut down the sport of college football.
I agree with many of the complaints about RR, but this one really loses me. I am going to try to respond to all of your points:
1. " He [Vest] emphasizes the game more than anything and I respect that."
No he doesn't. He emphasizes building a great team that competes for BCS Bowl Games annually more than anything else. He emphasizes fundamentals over everything else. He emphasizes great recruiting over everything else. He emphasizes vests over everything else. But he does not emphasize The Game "over everything else." Does he put particular emphasis on The Game? Hell yeah, but if you took the time to listen to RR's pressers (and the players), so does RR. The team practices something for OSU every week.
2. "Rich Rod has been aware of the game, but seems like it's not his main focus. "
How do you know? And even if this is true, I wouldn't want a coach that focusses on one game at the detriment of everything else. That would make us . . . MSU. Maybe RR should install a countdown clock to the OSU game like Dantonio did? We all thought that was pretty silly, no?
3. "I think beating them should be right behind national championship. "
Um, I think that beating OSU is probably before national championship, as you cannot get to a national championship if you lose the last game of the season. I think trying to build a national championship team should be RR's biggest priority right now. The rest - including beating OSU - will follow.
4. "I guess I just want more emotion out of him for this game and hope that maybe he will have some things up his sleeve."
So even if we lose, you would feel ok if RR breaks a clipboard, punches a player, loses his shit in a press conference or just shows the requisite emotion? I personally just want to see him win the freeking game, or at least get us competitive enough to do so. I don't care if he sits back wearing a liesure suit, smoking a pipe nodding calmly while stroking his beard while doing so, as long as we have a good team. And, as for the "some things up his sleeve", I believe that RR has arms. I also believe that RR will break out some new plays this week. Why do you assume that he will not? Do you remember what the first offensive play of last year's game was? Look it up.
Um, I think that beating OSU is probably before national championship, as you cannot get to a national championship if you lose the last game of the season.* I think trying to build a national championship team should be RR's biggest priority right now. The rest - including beating OSU - will follow.
* See Nebraska 2001, Oklahoma 2003
Do you have anything more recent? With the rise of teams like Boise and TCU, it is virtually impossible these days to reach the NC game without going undefeated. See this year's Wisco, OSU, MSU.
I guess my "cannot" may be been a bit strong, but the point still holds - if RR is focusing on building a NC team, that to me implies that we will be working towards beating OSU.
2008 Florida lost to Ole Miss in week four. Hell, 2007 LSU lost to Kentucky in week 7 and Arkansas in their last game of the regular season.
Also, in 2006 we almost went to the BCS championship after losing to Ohio State in the last game. In a world with a Big Ten championship, had Ohio State lost in that championship game, we would have gone to the BCS championship.
Not the last game, but ohio lost to Illinois the week before us in 2007 and backed their way in...
Its entirely possible that Auburn loses in the SEC championship game and Oregon get knocked off by OSU or Arizona. In my opinion one of those teams would still make it. I can't see a TCU v. Boise matchup in the MNC.
But I guess in all honesty, I wouldn't be shocked by anything that happens in the BCS
Beating Ohio State matters more to me than a national championship. It's not just that the latter requires the former, it's that beating them ruins their shot at a national championship -- any Michigan fan old enough to know the emotion of beating #1 Ohio State knows what I mean -- doing so in 1969 made Bo an icon and gave him the slack he needed to build his program. Even better to be #1 ourselves and beat them, but for me it's still about winning the Game. A national championship is just gravy.
...is the only thing that matters.
If you are placing beating Ohio State over winning the NC, you have become Michigan State/Dantonio by default. Very "brother-ish."
Our only job this week is to support our team and this staff. Everything else is unhelpful and, honestly, disloyal. There is a time for navel-gazing and this week is not it.
to start wearing a sweatervest. That will fix all of his problems.
Right on, brother.
I'm just glad he quit wearing that damn red wrist band.
I personally would have rather him gauranteed a victory in 2008 with Nick Sheridan as the QB and talked trash all week long before the game. Just so that way we would have won and his credibility would have increased monumentally!!
like a whiny child. Or have the doucher from OSU(not that osu) Okie State whine about it.
thats not what the OP is saying
this is what Roh is saying
"I'm playing this week no matter what,"
this is what RichRod has said about 'the game'
Since you've obviously missed the collective wisdom of literally every intelligent poster on the blog: nobody with half a brain cares what Rich Rod says or doesn't say at press conferences. You aren't on the team, you have no information about how much or how little he emphasizes this or any other game. The fact that Roh said what he did suggests that RR emphasizes it a great deal, not that you have the ability to draw such a logical conclusion.
But even if he didn't (a truly absurd premise), we aren't losing these games because he's not making guarantees at press conferences. Those things make fans feel better (see Fassel, Jim - still miss you big guy) but surprisingly don't help football teams play football. Shocking, right? More talent, better gameplanning, not being freshmen - these are things that help football teams win. These are things you can feel free to be angry about and blame RR for, because they are rational thoughts. Lack of press conference swagger (PCS) is not one of these things.
I have never been more disappointed with the quality of posting on MGoBlog before this week. Between this nonsense, and the Harbaugh threads, and the "amusement park" thread, it's just sickening. Maybe we deserve the bad things that happen to us.
its is the people with half a brain who donate $ for practice fields
there have always been underdogs and teams who had no business winning the game, I am sure you could tell my the reasons why the 1969 team should not have won...but they did win
Maybe I am wrong, maybe he does emphasize it, maybe when he said we are going to go down there and try real hard he means he is going to do everything he can to win and not just try to keep the score close so he can keep his job
perhaps I only have half a brain, but how many brain cells do I need to count to 0?
Maybe you can help me out: having obviously played sports at a level at which head coaches give press conferences, explain the difference between what a coach says in a press conference and what he says in his locker room/on the sideline.
I know some crazy people don't realize that he says the exact same thing to random journalists as the players he recruits and develops ("Hey Tate, try real hard out there"), so please clear that up for us.
PS - donating money to the program, while great, plainly =/= any special insight about the program or apparently even a baseline understanding of football outside of MORE GUARANTEEZ DAMMIT. You're exhibit A, my friend.
RichRod has multiple constituencies...
he has to appease the fan base as those are the people who support the program...like it or hate it, the alumni are very important people in any college football program.
he may hate OSU with all his soul, but he has yet to win a game against them and he says such generic things about them that it offers no sop for cerberus
if he wins on saturday then I will say great, he wins and he never gives any great press comment moments big deal
but when you have compiled the record he has at michigan you have to give the people a little something to believe in
Please show me a press conference or anything Lloyd Carr ever said in public that would fall in line with what you want? You're probably right, a man who has worked his ass off to get to this point looks at this game and says "ah we'll give it a go." I'm willing to bet everyone actually involved in Michigan football cares more about this game than any of us.
In short, you're wrong.
lloyd carr had street cred
he had beaten OSU
he didn't need to say anything
You've got to be kidding me
the dude won the game
his best players played their best
if RichRod can do in on saturday with denard going for 313 then I am wrong, I will neg myself
but he really hasn't shown much against OSU in his first 2 tries
simply saying we are going to do our best is not going to cut it, he would say the same thing for BGSU
RR could say something like this is going to be the hardest hitting game OSU has played all year, or this is going to be the toughest game on their schedule
Indeed I was. I was also alive when he finished 1-6 versus OSU. Does that mean he lost touch with the rivalry because he lost?
By your logic if I haven't accomplished something the best thing would be to talk big about it. I'm sorry your not happy with the results of the last two games none of us are, but none us have been happy with the results since 2003.
And if those two little tidbits of coach speak would've changed your mind you're nitpicking to an incredible degree.
I will neg myself
No need. I'm doing it for you in advance.
the last line has 9 syllables
Seriously man, your username says it all. You are "that guy".
RR doesn't emphasize the game or understand its importance. I just think he is fully aware of how outmatched we are and that it would have a negative impact on the kids and the program to go into these games shouting off about hating OSU and having to win this game and then get blasted.
I don't know what the hell it means but I like it!
Jesus tap dancing Christ is that Jesus tap dancing Christ?
Don't be that guy, ThatGuy2525.
Rich Rod has been aware of the game, but seems like it's not his main focus.
Yeah, a lack of focus on the Bucks is why the OSU logo is on the blocking sleds during spring practice and fall camp.
Is that true? I hadn't heard that. Pretty cool.
That is cool, never noticed.
it 'seems to me' you don't know shizzle about which you speak, can we agree on that?
also, please take a look at the countless player quotes about how the intensity level of the coaching went up significantly under RR, which I assure you includes getting ready for OSU.
Alas, I searched high and low for that.
How about the video of him on the sidelines last week blowing a gasket, I believe after a Michigan touchdown
to RRs thoughts and now know that the OSU game is not his main focus.
However, you logic is flawed.
If a national championship is his main focus then beating OSU would hence be a requirement for that goal. Thus, by preparing his team for a national championship run he must necessarily also be preparing to beat OSU.
Frankly, you don't have any idea what you're talking about. But, it's great that you're confident in your ability to "call 'em like you see 'em." That takes balls.
Anyone who says they "know" how much the coach emphasizes "intangibles, like rivalries" is basing their supposed knowledge on what they hear in a press conference, and have no freaking clue what goes on in practice, in the locker room and in team meetings.
Call me Pollyanna or delusional, I think we're gonna win Saturday.
Go Blue! Happiness is crushed buckeye nuts.
Well, If he were to talk about ...... wait for it........wait for it........ "THE GAME" and how much he wants to win and shows his true emotions, then if he loses he will be held more responsible for not achieving his goals.
any michigan coach is held responsible for not beating OSU and winning B10 titles
can't be held more responsible
can't be more pregnant
Well, you know what I am trying to say, if he lets his emotions out for the world to see, then it will shed more light on RR and the game. Oh, and more pregnant...........
of all the crap spewed, year after year, this is the one that drives me nutzest. How the bloody porkrind do you know how much he gets it, or what he is communicating to the players, let alone how he SHOULD play it? Maybe keeping the kids just a LITTLE bit loose is a freaking GREAT idea, considering all the pressure they get already.
Stop, just stop.
That's a great read. I didn't see that, that's awesome!
Its Ohio State week for crying out loud. Nobody around campus is getting pumped, and I don't know whether its the Wisconsin game or Thanksgiving that's doing it, but regardless, it SUCKS.
Let's STOP talking about our coaching woes, STOP talking about our defensive woes, STOP talking about the problems, and START getting stoked about beating the crap out of Ohio State and end this streak. Part of being a sports fan is throwing rationality out the window and believing in your team.
PLEASE AND THANK YOU!
Its not the game no its (THE GAME) the only game that means so much to the wolverine family! There is no fucking way any game on the schedule means so much!
"First off, it means a lot because it's Michigan-Ohio State." Means a lot to the seniors. "This would be something for them to remember quite fondly." Ohio State may have at stake from a conference championship standpoint, but the game is important on its own merits either way. "We do a few special things different for Ohio State week."
I'm sorry Coach Rodriguez didn't explicitly state what special things they do differently for Ohio State week.
now we just have to watch and enjoy it.
RR knows that, becuase he is THE_KNOWLEDGE
Tressel talks a lot, and OSU, as MSU, has a Michigan countdown clock in their locker room. OSU practices a little extra for Michigan, and it usually costs them a game against a lesser team somewhere during the year. That's all good and well, but OSU did the same things during their 2-10-1 "streak" against Michigan, too.
RR doesn't yack, he doesn't beat his chest about the game in public, and he doesn't have a countdown clock, but I am pretty sure it is safe to say that he wants to beat OSU as badly as anyone does. Remember also that the majority of the losses in the "streak" were LC's losses.
To me, this post is yet another post by someone who has already made up his mind about RR and is looking for more "reasons" to justify his POV. I also think this post is the setup for a "FRDKRODNOW" POST ON Saturday night if Michigan loses.
I would be in favor of locking the board for 48 hours or at least grossly raising the posting threshold if Michigan loses Saturday, because too many people are using mgoblog as a garbage dumpster when they vent.
maybe I shouldn't of posted. You can see that I don't post much, so mistake made. But I believe that RRod deserves another year and don't wish to rebuild again right now. Just had a thought after reading all the shit that is said here in ohio and thought I would get everyone else's opinion. My bad......will keep to myself next time.
But still GO BLUE!
Let's see... He doesn't "get" The Rivalry, he thinks he's in the Big East, he doesn't care about in-state recruiting, his offense won't work in the Big10, his offense won't work in cold weather, he does swears in front of college kids, he's not a Michigan Man, he has let the family values of Michigan erode, he let Mallet, Arrington and Manningham go, he didn't tailor his offense to fit the personnel of the 2008 team, he gave the sacred #1 jersey away, he brought the NCAA down on Michigan, he practiced too much, he has no regard for the well-being of his players, he recruits thugs, he sells snake-oil, he shreds documents, he didn't get Pryor, he let Mallet go because he thought he was going to get Pryor, he makes bad real estate deals, he left his alma mater, he speaks with a twang, he's nothing without Pat White, he brusquely fired Carr's assistants, Lion King, Square Peg, Gimmick, Dick Rod, Fraudriguez, Aw shucks.
He also caused Iris Macadangdang to lose the Name of the Year contest to Barkevious Mingo. Also, he failed to recruit Barkevious to Michigan, where he and Iris would have assured that the title went to a Michigan Person. BAD RODRIGUEZ!
- - -
Seriously, sink or swim (i.e., whatever Brandon decides), I feel bad for the guy, screw-ups aside. I really do. It's not a reach to say that he never had a *great* chance.
The last few years flashed before my eyes and had a strong urge to hit the floor and go fetal position. Almost blacked out. Man it's been rough. Sure hope they can make some magic on Saturday.
I had no idea that's the way you felt. Or, I guess, besides the two posts above that say the exact same damn thing.
He talks funny , too.
I am sending RR a clock with an OSU logo on it. Then we all will know he is serious about The Game.
You realize he won 4 out of 5 games against Pitt before the 07 season right? So did he "get" the rivalry those years but forget it the season he lost? You, by the way, are not smart and should probably try to stop being stupid.
Well he isn't "from Michigan." Would you expect anything else?
This is either the funniest post of the week or something that should be enshrined in the what-not-to-post instructions for MGoBlog. I'm not sure which ...
I don't want RR telling me how much of a rivalry OSU is. I'm just a fan, I don't play for the football team...why does he need to tell me? I want him to show me. Words are words, they mean nothing.
Besides, the basic premise of this post is stupid. Why in the hell do we want our head coach to act like the head coach of that team down south? Why? Tressel does his own damn thing, fine, it works for him and his fanbase. But right now, not a single damn (real) Michigan fan cares what RR says, they just want to see him do it. Prove it to me.
Last year, I saw a team that played it's heart out and lost because they had a true frosh at QB with 5 careless turnovers...but not for a lack of trying, rather for trying too hard. I saw a defense that played pretty damn well compared to the rest of the year. In short, I saw a team on the field that got it. They may not have won, but the heart I saw was a good sign.
He just doesn't care.
Because I feel like he doesn't care.
After all, it worked for these guys:
"Prior to a 38-14 upset of Texas in 1978, Baylor coach Grant Teaff ate a live earthworm in the locker room as a motivational tactic.
Before Mississippi State played the Longhorns in 1992, Bulldogs coach Jackie Sherrill had a bull castrated in front of his team. Sherrill said the castration was done more for educational purposes than motivation.
"The whole story came when I asked our players what a steer was and none of them knew what a steer was," Sherrill told reporters after his Bulldogs upset the Longhorns 28-10 on Sept. 5, 1992. "Is that a bull, or is he a steer?"
he gets big rivalries or not.
In 2001, WVU lost to Pitt in the Backyard Brawl, so he obviously didn't "get" the rivalry.
In 2002 and 2003, WVU beat Pitt, so Rodriguez suddenly "got" the rivalry those years.
In 2004, Pitt won, so RR doesn't "get" the rivalry again. How could he forget so soon?
In 2005 and 2006, WVU beat Pitt, so RR "gets" the rivalry yet again.
In 2007, WVU loses, and so of course that means that RR didn't "get" the rivalry any more.
Dude just can't make up his mind.
I'm still trying to figure out how it is that Tressel can go out in public, tell everybody how The Ohio State is going to beat their biggest rival, and get away with it.
Practically every other coach that's done it has been sentenced to an eternity of crushing defeats at the hands of said rivals, but oh no not this guy.
I don't care if Tressel's contract with the Devil is still good, I don't want Michigan's coach talking shit in front of cameras. The odds would not be with us.
"I can assure you that you will be proud of your young people in the classroom, in the community, and most especially in 310 days in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on the football field."
I've read that statement a hundred times, but I have yet to find where Tressel says that they're going to beat Michigan. All he says is that OSU fans will be proud of the team.
"Rich Rod has been aware of the game, but seems like it's not his main focus."
Do you know for a fact that Rodriguez is summarily dismissing the importance of the Ohio State game? What are you talking about when you say "it seems"? Is it because Michigan was shellacked 7-42 in 2008, or fumbled away the 2009 game? How do you know what is or isn't in the back of Rodriguez's mind?
We keep hearing this over and over again, that Rodriguez just doesn't "get it".
Well OK. Can somebody supply some evidence to the effect that Rodriguez is ignoring Ohio State and the UM-OSU rivalry? Because so far this claim is really weak. Citing the last two losses isn't good enough. Michigan could have beaten OSU last year if it weren't for 4 INTs and 1 fumble. Is that "not getting it"? One could make a similar claim about Lloyd Carr with "his failure" to beat Ohio State in every game between 2004 and 2007 and assert that Carr "doesn't get it" . This is just dumb. Of course Lloyd Carr "understood the rivalry" with Ohio State, as does Rich Rodriguez.
But why do people think Rodriguez doesn't "understand".
The truth is, you just don't like Rich Rodriguez and you never did. He was never on the list for you. You wanted Les Miles and Jim Harbaugh. Just say it. That's the bucket you reside in.
Just forget it. I rescind my questions above. This is a complete waste of time. You win. Rodriguez "doesn't get it". Bring in Jim Harbaugh and a bunch of people who "get it". That way all of the tradition-sensitive UM fans who hate helmet awards can at least get some sleep at night.
I'm sure "understanding the UM-OSU rivalry" would help a Jim Harbaugh tremendously as his 11 defenders, mostly walk ons and 3-star true freshmen, go into the breach against the Big Ten's 2nd ranked scoring offense and one of the most talented backfields and offensive lines in the league on Saturday in the Horseshoe.
You know, while we're at it, after Rodriguez is fired, let's all lay the ground rules and limit all future Michigan coaching prospects to the following:
1. Must be a UM alum.
2. Must have previously played for or been a member of the Michigan football team in the past.
3. Must have played in games against Ohio State.
That will definitely narrow things down in terms of future candidates. These candidates would "get it".
Wow, why didn't Bill Martin just do that in the first place and make everybody happy?
Thank you for this.
I addressed this when Chris Spielman said what he said and I'll correct you now:
>>I'm sure "understanding the UM-OSU rivalry" would help a Jim Harbaugh tremendously as his 11 defenders, mostly walk ons and 3-star true freshmen<<
I've said it before and I'll keep saying it until you people get it. Every Defensive Lineman *and* Linebacker that started the Wisconsin game where all heavily recruited 4 star talents and most where either Red Shirt Sophmores or Juniors (with Craig Roh being a true Sophmore). The only walk-on who started was Jordan Kovacs. So, people, I ask you, while putting down the Bells Winter White to be respectful, stop spewing the "Defense is made up of 3 star talent that should be in the MAC" alarm.
I just lost the game when you post it online. I blame you for it.
"We'll beat Ohio State when we're a better team than Ohio State. It's that simple."
"Vince Lombardi could come, too, and it's not going to fix some of the problems we have on defense," ~ Rich Rodriguez
That proof enough for you?
RR sure knows how to inspire the team. Real Knute Rockne, our Richie. The players must really appreciate a vote of confidence like those. Really fire 'em to go out and put their bodies on the line against the hordes from Columbus.
Words like that would never come out of Jim Harbaugh's mouth about a Michigan team he coaches.
