Notre Dame can still lose again (twice, actually).
Ohio State can get wiped off the field in the Rose Bowl.
I hate a losing season, but I've got my popcorn ready.
yeah, I'm sick of getting joy out of them losing. I just want UM to win.
What's your avatar?
it's charlie's lyrics to nightman from it's always sunny in philadelphia.
An Mgopoint to your original post for it's true-ness, and an Mgopoint to your other post for Nightman.
You are a master of karate, and friendship to everyone.
Nothing can fill that void in my heart caused by an ended season and a 6th straight loss to OSU. If OSU loses, so what? They beat us. That's it. 369 days til redemption...
UM was a very small increment away from 8-5. After the performance by the defense yesterday, I think they are better than MSU, Purdue, and Illinois right now. It's too bad that it took until the last game for the defense to "get it," but they now do, and can only get better next year. With even minimal improvement, that will be good for at least eight games next season.
Really, what it is for UM is a matter of stairsteps. I see roughly three levels in the Big Ten right now:
Level 1: OSU, PSU
Level 2: Iowa, Wisky
Level 3: everyone else
UM was a third-level team this year, but they were really, really close to being on the second level. I fully believe that if the defense had "gotten it" at the beginning of the year, they would be at the top of the third level, and just below Iowa and Wisky. With Warren coming back, and defensive help from chronology, Barwis, redshirts, and newcomers, UM should rise back above the third level and into the second level. In the Big Ten, that will get you in the top 25 and a New Year's Day bowl game.
As for the rankings, I seem to be hearing the beginnings of SEC backlash on national radio shows. There may soon be a serious "SEC is overrated" movement in the MSM. If that happens, the Big Ten will eventually benefit. In the MSM, which moves like the dinosaur it is, movement is slow, but it will happen: just in time for UM to make it to the title game for the 2011 season.
And that is why there is no schadenfreude here.

The thing is, if the Big 10 is to benefit, we really have to stop schadenfreude-ing against OSU. The Big 10 will have to start winning its BCS games to get any respect even in the event of a SEC downfall, and unfortunately since we have no part in that yet, it falls back on PSU and OSU, and even those second tier B10 teams like Iowa who will end up in the Cap One/Outback bowl, to earn us some respect.

This argument relies on the assumption that what we root for has any actual effect on the outcome of a game.
Also seeing Weis get canned will be awesome, except at the same time I really enjoy him coaching ND. Anyone who plays them has a consistent shot to win
Beat Osu this year in Columbus would be beautiful.
There's not much joy after this season but seeing OSU choke in another bowl game is always satisfying. If it's going to be the Ducks then they'll get killed.
