is getting close.  I don't love that college football is having like a "warm up" Saturday this year with a smattering of terrible games.  I like that Thursday before Labor Day to be the official start of the season.

Whatever. It will be actual meaningful football to watch. I won't be complaining :) OSU traveling to Indiana on Thursday night sure could be interesting. Can't wait!!

I actually sort of welcome the initial slate of games only because it is A) football and B) an excuse to start drinking at an hour earlier than I normally might. Also, by then we're a few days into the non-OT season and my life becomes a living hell as a mod, so I need the beer.

is part of the "Hawaii rule".

A team that plays at Hawaii AND also uses the ability to schedule a 13th game because of that, is allowed to play their first game the Saturday before Labor Day.

Not every *team* playing on Aug 26 is playing that extra 13th game, but there is at least one team involved in each game that is taking advantage of the early start, including Hawaii themselves.
