...days until one Mr. Steven Breaston sees Michigan beat the shit out of the Rainbow Warriors.

Steve played receiver from 2003 to 2006 and is one of my all-time favorite players. He wasn't the most agile guy, but when he got into open space, he burned defenders with his really long strides. He was a terrific returner and has the Michigan record with 1,599 punt return yards and 1,993 kick return yards (crazy stats). Steve earned 2003 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, 2006 Big Ten Conference sportsmanship award honoree, and four-time Big Ten football special teams player of the week. Steve was drafted in the fifth round (too low, in my opinion) in 2007 by the Cardinals. He also saw time with the Chiefs and Saints.

The first game of season is also next week!

That's just how I expect him to play. Passing situations only. He is a WDE who converted from LB. I realize we don't have a traditional SAM, but when you think of successful traditional SAM's from Michigan past, you think Jake Ryan. Noah Furbush is reprising the "Stand up" Traditional SAM role, and I don't think it's unfair to think of Winovich as the hand in the dirt WDE/SAM tweener that Ryan excelled at in passing situations as well. Neither are a starter, but I think both roles will be used on this team in certain situations.

Who knows though. Ojemudia held up okay as a WDE at 250 lbs. Maybe Winovich could too.

Elvis Grbac played college football at the University of Michigan from 1989 to 1992. He led the Wolverines to a Gator Bowl in 1991, three Rose Bowls in 1989 and1993 and 1992 and is best remembered for throwing to wide receiver Desmond Howard during the latter's Heisman-winning campaign in 1991. Grbac finished his career at Michigan as the school's all-time leader in passing attempts (835), completions (522), passing yards (6,460) and passing touchdowns (71). These marks were later broken by John Navarre in 2003 and surpassed by Chad Henne in 2006–07.

He also established the Big Ten Conference career passing efficiency record that would stand for six seasons until it was surpassed by Joe Germaine. Grbac was a two-time NCAA passing efficiency champion during his last two seasons. He was a three-time Big Ten champion in this statistic.

That label fit them both. Grbac was the first of our true pocket passers. He was quite the oddity at the time, since every Bo QB (Grbac arrived under Bo) was an option threat.

Two more Grbac/Navarre commonalities: They both got pressed into action early because of injuries (Michael Taylor/Drew Henson), and they both had to do so at UCLA. Michigan survived the Grbac UCLA game on a miracle comeback; we weren't as fortunate with Navarre.

Ohio St. people hate him more than we do. Rabid fans chased him out of his home and made him move from the state! He was 0-3-1 against Michigan. Pretty much my entire football fandom he has been there in video games and on the TV as a solid analyst/broadcaster. I can't hate him. I barely dislike him TBH.

Oh it was Herbie! Yeah, it looks like "worthless" was not his intent. "Misused" would be more accurate. I think that by 2006, Herbstreit had already transformed from "blatant OSU homerism on air" to "one of the top announcers in the game". Not going to hold this against him.

After that 2003 OSU game there was so much promiss for Michigan football.  They were just a few plays from an undefeated season and Breaston was going to be the next heisman caliber Wolverine.

So glad we are back to that optimism now.

About half way through 2004 I was certain we would win a National Championship in 2007/2008. We had a great young QB/RB/LT combo that would be here for 4 years. Our defense would always be top notch.

To my delight that timeline moved up a year as we went into OSU #1 vs. #2 for a shot at the National Championship game!

Of course the next 4 games were all loses and we sucked ever since! YAYAYYAY!

He tried to clarify it by saying he was talking only about offense, not special teams.  The numbers support his statement, but we didn't need his production with all the other weapons on offense.  Herbstreit, for an analyst, showed a pretty limited understanding of Steve's role on our team.

but it would be a lot better if they would not play the EXACT SAME GAME over and over again.  Seriously, I know this has been brought up, by why can they not update their content?  You know it is bad when I am sick of watching a classic Michigan victory.  At this point I can do Nessler's play by play of the Michigan v. Wisconsin 08 game right along with him.

"Minor - is Major!"  Ahh, I am bored just thinking about the game.

I switch over the SEC network and they are just playing random, awesome Tennessee v. Georgia games from whenever just because it is awesome.  The BIG network is working on my last nerve.

Agree 100%  Unfortunately I don't have much else to choose from here.  10 years worth of BTN games to choose from and they show about 10 games.  One more reason kickoff can't get here soon enough.

Yeah, it seems like BTN has four catgories of prgramming:

  1. Live games.
  2. Live daily or weekly shows.
  3. Original documentary style content.
  4. Replay of "classic" or 60 minute recaps of recent games.

I think they're adequate for category #1--not much choice but to endure them if your team is playing.

Category #2 is really hit or miss--certain like programs like BTN Live are horrid, and is probably the biggest way BTN could improve their content if they upped their game for that show alone. Make it like Sports Center was back in their golden era.  Even continue it through the "off seasons" by covering baseball, softball, volleyball, etc.  Some shows like the Big Ten memorabila show are OK as filler.

Category #3 is really quite good--"Tiebreaker", "Big Ten Icons", "Big Ten Elite" etc.

Category #4 can be improved too.  They repeat certain games over & over again.  What they really need to do is purchase the rights of old games from ABC, ESPN, etc. and show entire slates of games in a coherent fashion.  For example during the dead summer months, there's no reason why they couldn't do a 60 minute replay of every single regular season & bowl game from every Big Ten team from the prior year.  With the advent of DVD's you can even just slate them for filler during overnight hours.  This would allow fans who are really football starved to record the entire review of the 2016 season of their favorite team.
