...days until Rod Payne watches Harbaugh & Co. smash Hawaii.

Rod played center from 1993 to 1996. He started in forty games whilst at Michigan and was twice named first team All-Big Ten. Rod was also named the team's MVP in 1996 and shared captain duties with Jarrett Irons. His NFL career included being selected by the Bengals in the 1997 draft, for whom he played from 1997 to 1998. He then saw time with the Ravens' practice squad in 2000. He nad numerous injuries while in the NFL, which is why his career was so short. Rod did earn a Super Bowl ring with the Ravens, though.

It also means there are roughly 45 days left during which we could finally see the thread that I know everyone has heralded as the end of things - "OT: Would You Like To Come In And See My Etchings?"

We'll get to football yet, folks. Hang in there.

I was helping out on the field with the marching band and met Rod during one game.  This was about the time he was co-hosting a show on The Ticket.  He was talking with another ex-player and I was admiring his Super Bowl ring.  He saw me staring at it and without a word removed it and tossed it to me.  He went back to talking to his friend.  I could have headed for the hills without him being aware if I had wanted to.  Of course, the ring felt like it weighed twenty pounds.  Rod was a really nice and trusting guy.
