Thank you Maize Rage

For not only bringing it tonight, but NOT rushing the court.

HUGE win. But not the biggest we've had in the last handful of years. Not even close.

We've definitely been here before. I saw that #11 WVU rushed the court when they upset Kansas earlier today.

Just imagine what Crisler would be like if the section was expanded. It's already one of the toughest places to play for visiting teams.

Hear, hear!

Students tried to rush. The ushers kept them back. But agreed, the section needs to be expanded. There were actually a lot of empty seats today and the student section was packed. There's no reason to keep the rowdiest fans in the upper bowl.

It's ridiculous to have such a small student section at a Power 5 school that's becoming a great basketball school.  Season ticket holders should be reassigned to new seats, it's been done before.

From my understanding, making the switch would probably add seats to the stadium if nothing else, thereby increasing revenue.  Season ticket holders all pay the same price afaik.

Not sure how much room there is to add seats. AD has a pretty detailed attendance log of students at basketball games at mgoblue.com/students (can't link page) under the basketball header that tracks usage.

While understanding that we want more seats down low, we've only had 1 game (not including last night) that has had an over 80% scan success rate. I imagine for the talks to get serious we need to get a lot more consistent game to game. There are also far less student basketball ticket holders this year then there has been in the past.

Wrong.

We have about 450 seats along the bench and another 250 in section 130.

700 seats total, with a good 150 or so being higher up than anyone in the Izzone or Kameron sits (the upper parts of section 130).

The AD is much more to blame than the students for any atmosphere complaints.

and a few people definitely tried to start the rush of court storming. If they had been successful, I imagine a larger crowd would have followed. With that said, the majority of people had no interest in court storming and werr not planning on it

The crowd was somewhat sparse, but the students brought it all game long, kept it loud and the energy level high inside Crisler.

An excellent night to be a Wolverine

These are the games where you need the students big time.   They did their job!

I agree that it is probably hard for the alums/season ticket holders to get out there for a 9PM game.

For all that were able to make it, bravo and I thank them for it.

YES! After MSU this is biggest game of year. If you can't go SELL or DONATE your tickets! Don't just leave them unused. That is embarrassing and selfish (or at least poor use of resources). Also, EXPAND the student section already. Jim Hackett did a ton for football. I think this is the major thing needed for basketball. AND YES IM YELLING

It was great to see the court free of students. We were in the National freakin' Championship game just a few years ago, so, yes this did not call for such a display of exultation.

WD, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but Crisler is definitely not one of the toughest places to play. We're not even one of the toughest places to play in our conference. I hope the new AD fixes that.

That's a very selective sample size. How about the home win% for Beilein's entire tenure? Maybe I'm wrong here, but it sure seems like IU, MSU, OSU, and Wisconsin have more a intimidating venue. Out of the newer teams, Maryland seems pretty rowdy.

IU, MSU, MD and Wisconsin are def harder to play both nights.

I would not say OSU is. Some of our victories there recently have come by easily. They may always get rowdy for the Michigan game because of how much they hate us, but I don't think OSU brings it hard for your average Big Ten game.

Regardless, that still leaves us in the top half of the conference.

Well, OSU basketball (when they're good) is just there for their fans to pass time until spring practice is back and then autumn football. They truly don't give a shit about basketball at OSU. The same can be said for Michigan fans, however, during the down years between the Fab Five and Beilein.

I hate to agree but this is the truth. OSU's arena is big so it's hard for it to get loud but the reality is unless the team is really good people are only half assed interested just like here as shown by empty seats last night. That will happen at a big football school.

Good choice not rushing the court. I personally love court rushes. It makes college basketball so special. But recently wayy to many injuries have occured that puts it in question. Michigan should not rush the cout no matter who they beat. If you want to be considered elite in college basketball than beating the #3 team should be expected. Great win onto Iowa. GO BLUE

The students were great tonight but man I really wish they would extend the bleachers all around the court and make it more imposing. Adding that one section behind the basket was a good start but it could be better. I hate the fact half of the students have to sit in the upper deck.

The first year I had student tickets was the last season under Amaker that there were legitimately enough student ticket purchases to put a ton of people in the upper bowl. I made a point of never trying to sneak into the bleachers, like a few people did. But even at that, for about 80% of the games, I was the only person in my row--if not the three or four rows around me. No one showed up, even though those tickets were sold. It was a weird and lonely place up there.

Even that seems like glory days stuff.  My last year with student tickets was 2002-03 (team that started like shit, then played all the freshmen and went 10-6 in B1G but was ineligible for post-season).  All the season tickets were GA as far as I remember and if you showed up a half hour early (I usually did because of my Marine dad and OCD) you could pretty much run around on the court doing cartwheels and nobody would stop you (I usually didn't because of my Marine dad and OCD).

Yep, right around then. The bleachers were GA, but you had to have a ticket for the bleachers. Everything else was assigned seating. A lot of people got stubbed in or just tried to sneak past the ushers, but they were a pretty surly bunch. My ticket was like three rows from the top of the arena--the people behind us were overflow visiting tickets and general sales, which were mostly empty except for the big games and some conference season weekends.

By my sophomore year things were starting to peter out, though I was in the bleachers by then. There were still a few student seats in the gold section. By my junior and senior years, they didn't even have enough to fill the bleachers. I had tickets a year after that as a non-degree student, and I think the student ticket number was under 300, maybe even under 200, IIRC. They were putting pizzas out on the bleachers to try to get people to show up, and even that didn't work.
