Texas QB Bellomy to visit Michigan
Scout.com has a paywalled article regarding a dual threat QB from Texas coming to A2 for a visit.
Anyone have some insight?
EDIT: It's Russell Bellomy (thanks jblaze)
Here is the link (behind paywall):

Jeff George scoring 10 sounds about right. The guy was probably as bad reading books as he was reading defenses.

What a dumb ass he was. I loved reading Bo's story (from Bo's Lasting Lessons) about recruting him in high school. He shows up with an assistant coach at George's family home and Jeffo is dressed like a slob. He's slouching on his couch and demands his mother to bring him a can of pop, and Bo's basically seen enough by that point. He thanks them politely and leaves w/o offering a scholly.

about recruits with good grades. We have had plenty of student-athletes either DQ'd or on the verge of DQ over the years. Does the name Dorsey ring a bell? I'll take all the "good grades" news I can get.

After watching his highlights, he seems to be a decent prospect at the QB position. He makes good decisions, has good touch and accuracy, and he has a little speed. He definitely can run the zone read but we might phase that out of our new offense. The fact that he is intelligent is also a plus. We need a body at the QB position and I would definitely take him in this class if he willing to consider us.

Added benefit to get the APR up.

Definitely has the grades to make it into Michigan. Would qualify at Vandy as well.

I think that is the appropriate direction to take the program at tis point.

I noticed the other day that one of the top Pro-style QBs (Reilly O'Toole) is committed to Illinois? What the ? This perplexes me.

The Zooker is one hell of a recruiter ... bad coach .. but awesome recruiter
January 24th, 2011 at 12:16 PM ^
Really not the same. I agree that Les is a better recruiter than coach, but he's won a lot of games in a very tough conference. He's beaten top teams like Alabama, Florida, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas over multiple years. He's also been very good in bowl games.
Zook, on the other hand, has had one good year in C-U, that ended with getting embarassed in the Rose Bowl. Other than that, Zook has missed a bowl a few times, barely made a bowl a few times, and been embarassed by middle of the road Big Ten teams. He has very, very few big wins.

I dont understand why people bash Miles as a coach. Are his ethics questionable? Sure. But all the guy does is win games no matter how ugly the wins may be, but to insinuate that the guy isn't a very good coach is ridiculous.
January 24th, 2011 at 12:35 PM ^
His clock management gaffes and throw caution to the wind 4th down gambles (including the "holder-tosses-it-over-his-head-to-the-175 lb-kicker" plays) get a lot of attention, but hard to argue with his track record. The guy can coach. Saban got it going there, and Miles has done a pretty good job with stewardship. 2011 could be big for them.

Man, that is an unfortunate name. Good thing that kid is a good athlete, but he probably still got made fun of. O'toole? Too easy.
January 24th, 2011 at 11:55 AM ^
Naming him Reilly doesn't help much either. How about a stronger first name? Like Bonecrusher. Name your kid Bonecrusher O'Toole and no one makes fun of him. BKFinest it.

is a great recruiter. He's not so good with the coaching, but the man can recruit.

I saw that too... all i can think is that he must of grew up loving the illini or he just loved the campus.

He's an Illinois kid and doesn't have that many other impressive offers. He's also been committed for quite a while (since late June), so he may have been more "under-the-radar" before his senior season (pure speculation).
Rivals is much higher on him than Scout, FWIW.

I saw one of his games on ESPN this year. Looks pretty good, I think he's from the area if I remember correctly.

If I'm reading that right, it says he has only shown verbal interest in Purdue? Would this be Hoke's first Snake Oiling of Hope?

Snake Oil II the Saga

He is committed to Purdue and looked hard at MSU and Vandy.
January 24th, 2011 at 11:59 AM ^
Which is a good thing.
January 24th, 2011 at 12:23 PM ^
I must say, I despise Danny Hope more than any other Big Ten coach outside of Dantonio. Between Dantonio's lack of punishment for his gang of convicts and Hope's ridiculous (and incorrect) vendetta against RR, they top my list. It's funny, I never thought I'd even have an opinion about a Purdue coach after growing up most of my life knowing Joe Tiller.
Tressel, while I hate OSU, I have a decent amount of respect for because of his accomplishments.
Hope and Dantonio = hypocritical douches.
January 24th, 2011 at 12:32 PM ^
Hope seems to forget after a year or two that 9/10 times we'd crush them in three quarters and use the rest of the game to get backups some playing time. Can't wait to see the look on his face in a few months when Denard gets benched halfway through the third quarter because it isn't worth risking him with a 25+ point lead.
January 24th, 2011 at 12:03 PM ^
What ever happened to him?
January 24th, 2011 at 12:07 PM ^
Please tell me you're kidding
January 24th, 2011 at 12:15 PM ^
an update on RoJo too while we are at it..................
January 24th, 2011 at 12:47 PM ^
I thought they had gone down there to talk to all of the Glenville guys. I had not heard that he was not as intelligent as some of the other recruits. He has the size though.
January 24th, 2011 at 12:07 PM ^
Doesnt qualify Academically to play a Michigan.
January 24th, 2011 at 12:07 PM ^
I believe he has some academic issues to work out.

in one of the multiple caves in Tora Bora? Let me know if you have and I'll withold my -1 vote I am ready to give you.
January 24th, 2011 at 12:22 PM ^
Thanks for the link. That was really impressive. Nice touch on his passing, very decisive and quick when running the ball. Seems like a perfect fit for this class.
Anyone know about the competition level he was facing in those videos?

The kid plays for the Oakland Raiders?
January 24th, 2011 at 12:43 PM ^
Looking on Rivals I noticed that his school produced quite a few prospects this year including an ATH that is going to Oklahoma and a LB that's going to TCU. It's always wonderful to have solid relationships with Texas high schools.
Also at the 1:00 mark in these highlights, The WR broke a couple tackles and had a nice spin move. I wonder what his deal is even though we aren't taking a WR in this class.
January 24th, 2011 at 1:26 PM ^
Looks like a guy who been shown regional interest, but not a lot more than that. Most of the schools that have offered him are smaller i.e. the Tulsa's and UTEP's of the world. He did get an offer from Oklahoma State though. And he runs a 4.5 40yd.
Too bad WR's are not on the map this year.
January 24th, 2011 at 12:25 PM ^
He has pretty good footwork for a supposidly "dual threat" QB. He looks more like a QB that can run than some of the running backs who can occasionally throw that are usually in the "dual threat" category. I like his size, too. Was he on SDSU radar or is he someone that was on UofM's radar with RR but wasn't interested?
January 24th, 2011 at 12:31 PM ^
Thanks for the link - the kid is good!
January 24th, 2011 at 12:54 PM ^
Did you guys see the crack-back block at the 2:30 mark of the video?
That dude got smoked!!!!!
Somebody grab that guy a Snickers cause he's not going any where for a while...
