Texas HS Playoffs - Tony Drake

Submitted by cjm on
Playoffs have finally begun here in Texas. I just got back from watching a double header at Cowboy's stadium and will be heading back tomorrow to watch Stephen Hopkins (update after the game.) Thought everyone might be interested to hear how Tony Drake did now that Skyline is done with their easy district schedule and hitting the playoff trail. Tony went 14 carries for 114 yards... 3 receptions for 32 yards... 8 yard touchdown reception and a 28 yard touchdown run. Skyline won 38-0 in bi-district play. Their next opponent is DeSoto who is 9-2 and won their first round game 40-0. That's all for tonight and I'll try to shoot an update after Hopkins plays tomorrow (2:00 CST) and maybe some video as well.

must be awesome, they seem to steamroll everyone. I recall some article comparing them to the Dallas Carter team that Permian plays in the championship in Friday Night Lights (factually inaccurate, i know), which was apparently one of the great HS football teams of all time.

I just moved back to the DFW area from Midland, Tx. Midland/Odessa are 10 miles apart and huge rivals. Although the movie is factually inaccurate, the idea that football is a religion and little is more important is not exaggerated. It's pretty special when you can get 18,000 fans to a high school football game. A non-playoff game at that. Roy Williams (yes that one) was from Permian and Cedric Benson was at Midland Lee. Those were some entertaining games.

I think RichRod and the gang knew what they were doing when they offered him after only about 60 carries as a backup last season. With the way his senior season has gone, about the only thing that'll prevent him from 4-star status is his size. Michigan fans shouldn't fret, as the same was said about Vincent Smith. They both fit the system perfectly and will hopefully keep our RB cupboard well-stocked going forward(I don't see Drake as a slot guy at all).

when I watch this guy play I don't think of him as a slot guy. He could be a slot guy and probably really good at it, but I get a excited (maybe a little too excited) thinking about him rolling out of the backfield.
