In an unprecedented move, a number of influential people inside and outside of college athletics mobilized over the past week to save the Big 12 Conference, stave off the Pac-10's move to expand to 16 schools and prevent a massive reorganization of college athletics.

An NCAA source with direct knowledge of what occurred told ESPN.com that the aggressiveness of the Pac-10 caused various factions of the collegiate sports world to coalesce. They then worked to slow and try to stop the pace of moves that would have left a number of schools searching for a new conference home.

The source said the people involved were business executives, conference commissioners, athletic directors, network executives with ties throughout college athletics, administrators at many levels throughout the NCAA membership and a "fair number of them without a dog in the hunt."

According to the source, this collection of interested and influential people made phone calls, visited in person and held conference calls with the Big 12 schools that were being pursued, including Texas, as well as Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe. The influential group also helped broker the new television deal between Texas (and the other schools considering leaving the conference) and Beebe, who represented the remaining Big 12 schools.

hmmmm  makes you wonder  who these  people are.   and   how the tv package was so good.

with the Texas network,  any games involving another team that are just on the longhorn network,  means that the opposing team keeps no money and the Longhorns receive all revenue from the game in their shared revenue plan.

I think  that UT got a very good deal.    There must be a lot of those influental people that are avid longhorn fans.

Personally, I think it's hilarious.  Nebraska (and I'm sure Colorado as well) wanted to get out of the Big 12 because of Texas.  Not just the school, but the state.  They were running the Big 12.  Now, KU, KSU, BU, Mizzou, and ISU basically beg Texas to stay so everyone else stays just so they can keep that "prestigious" BCS conference title.  Problem for every other school is that Texas is going to run that conference in football.  When Texas takes that BCS title bid year after year and keeps all that BCS money from it, PLUS more money than every other school, PLUS their own network, I just can't see any other Big 12 school being able to survive financially in that conference.  I have a feeling this isn't going to end well, and the only ones to blame are the 5 desperate schools that wanted to keep the conference together.

unfortunately when Nebraska  was back there they were the only ones voting no.  There were many 11-1  votes.   This has been happening since Texas came along,  There is a reason their original sws conference went under and the Big XII is like it is now.  Conference headquarters ,   Dallas,   from  Kansas    CCG,    Jerry's  world,  (new cowboy stadium  )from Kansas  last five years its been in Longhorn territory.  NE  wanted it to be rotated  between both divisions. Gee  North  side,   vote our way,  we tie.     These were issues all voted on by the conference, ,,  At the last conference meeting,  Texas demands  an ultimatum with an or else  the South leaves for the Pac 10,  oh by the way  we  are also looking at several others also,  so  You  have  till Friday to tell us if you are committed.  When NE  said,  Well show us how committed you are   sign over media rights and lets start a Big XII network   there was  a  decisive NO.  , For NE  it was never about the money  for their football  program thats for  sure,  Last year  NE  was 4th  in the Nation with football revenue,  ,  Osborne  is all about education,  acedemics.   and respecting others.   The problem is  Texas is about money,  and power,    words you see all over the forums for them  are voting blocks,    so we wont be isolated,  and  we can maintain power.    Those five though  I feel sorry for them  they helped to make their own bed.

There has already been one comment  from NE with many having the same sentiment,  can we change our big twelve conference sign to Big ten  before the Texas game.  lol

From reading about your conference and being on some of the forums,  It is amazing how much respect you have for the other schools,
