that it can be a factor though. Whether it is the deciding factor may not matter to figure out. Many times there are 10 factors that are additive that put M in front.
If the chant happens, it will either help or hurt...there's very rarely anything absolutely neutral. My guess is it will help, but as you are implicitly stating, to the extent at which a chant will help might be hard to measure.
So choose to be part of it, or not, no big deal.

I don't personally like the idea, but I definitely recall some visit reactions before where a recruit says they thought it was really cool the fans were chanting his name. Maybe a football player at the basketball game? Maybe it wasn't even Michigan?
I dunno, I read it somewhere. Guess the kids like that kind of stuff. Maybe an organized thread is a bit much tho.

Chanting recruits names during TV timeouts has been going on for years, maybe decades. It's more obvious at Crisler, in a smaller setting with more informed fans (on average). But it still has been fairly common during football games too.

ah, I remember in 2008 when students threw a "Get Terrelle Pryor to Michigan" block party. Pryor was the guest of honor, on his recruiting visit. And apparently he got laid..a sorority girl did the deed...

NO. How about we cheer on the players who are playing the game and have commited to playing michigan football. Give the kid something to look forward too when or if he decides to attend michigan. Have him wait to hear 110K fans cheer for him and if he decides to go elsware than its his loss.

I live in California and the noon games are more likely to be on ABC which means I can watchespn.com it without having cable. This is the second one on coast to coast. If they played at 3:30pm, then not as likely coast to coast.
So perhaps not as awesome for recruits at the game, but at the same time, a larger selection of future recruits can watch from home without needing a regional cable package.

What about other recruits that will be there tomorrow? Won't they feel left out? If you're going to do it, start chanting all of their names, throughout the game.
That said, you should really be cheering for the team... if it's a blow out in our favor then maybe?

I can see how recruits would like it. I am hard-pressed to imagine a scenario where a recruit doesn't like it. Me personally, I feel very uncomfortable chanting anything, in any context.
Having said that, if anyone comes into contact with either R. Gary or any other recruit, high-profile or otherwise, the best practice is to smile, but not linger. If you think your little babbling one-liner is going to make a difference, it will not. Acceptable comments could be "Go Blue, Rashan," "Welcome to Ann Arbor," "We would love to have you as part of our family,"
Repeat ... do not try to get cute. It will have the opppsite effect. Also, if you see someone such as a coach, host player, etc. engaging the young man, do not interupt them.

Not true...
It's a stupid idea, but a lot of recruits like the attention from being singled out by the crowd. You hear about it at basketball games ALL the time. They eat that shit up.
I was at OSU when Pryor was on a visit and they willingly accept a minor NCAA violation by showing him on the video board at the basketball game just so the students would chant his name.
Plenty of recruits have talked about how they enjoy the chants and attention.
It's stupid and not a reason for anyone to do it tomorrow...but if you think it doesn't have an affect - not true, it absolutely can - just not for everyone.

Appreciate the sentiment, but I shudder to think of M stadium chanting the names of every highly-regarded recruit over the past X years.
Also...there's gonna be a pretty damn good football team visiting the stadium...so there's that.
