no wonder we hired Hunter Lochmann
Kind of a poor joke since 247sports and Tom have already picked up on it.
Something's weird about this whole situation. We'll see what happens.
In other news I'm a troll.
For as long as you continue to confidently exclaim he's going to Alabama without any supporting evidence and contrary to what pretty much every analyst says, absolutely.
i hope recruits will someday realize that this kind of stuff doesn't reflect well on them. but as of now, i also hope he goes blue.
Who says he's the reason that this is being delayed? You really think it reflects poorly on the kid? He's 17.
Other than the Terelle Pryor extended diva tour, does anyone really remember stuff like this even six months later?
that when people judge high school juniors for being indecisive about choosing a college, it does not reflect well on them.
I think he's referring to waffling on the press conference itself, not necessarily the school choice. He probably should have been rock solid before deciding to tell the press.
But we're the ones who create the environment that blows these commitments out of proportion. This is the cross-section of a multi-billion dollar industry and a kid choosing where he wants to go to college. Bill Gates didn't compete with F. Lee Bailey for my services coming out of high school, and I didn't have a recruiting profile on the internet. These are 17- and 18-year-old kids, and 17-year-olds are immature* and indecisive. They are also going through this process for the first time.
We give these kids a HUGE megaphone, whether or not they are ready for it. And for a big-time player at a school like Cass Tech, we essentially insist that he use that megaphone. So while I understand the frustration, I also refuse to be surprised when occasionally these recruits show their age by waffling.
*I'm NOT calling Richardson "immature" in the Terrell Owens sense. I'm calling him (and other recruits) immature in the "not very old and experienced in the ways of the universe" sense.
I totally agree that the recruiting game is blown completely out of proportion. Personally, I don't think schools should give student-athletes a microphone to make these announcements. Earning a Big 10 scholarship, regardless of how talented a person is, is a great accomplishment that speaks to a solid work ethic. However, in a school district that is excited about its high school dropout rate plummeting to only 19%(!), it may be better to focus on students whose academic achievements have made them successful.
I had a good friend do Teach for America in Detroit, and every single kid in his class wanted to be either a rapper or basketball player when they grew up. That speaks to a lot of things, but it sucks no matter how you look at it.
Thank you for clarifying. I admit I have no idea why he's delaying the press conference, but based on everything that has been said about him the last week, i.e. he's playing around with the media a la DeAnthony Arnett, it doesn't sound like he's being noble about this whole process. Yeah he's 17 and immature if that's the case, but you didn't see any of our other recruits mess around like this.
Bag of Marbles, Mr. Richardson would be lucky to have you.
well that killed my buzz.. time to drink
He needs a better nickname than "T-Rich."
We can worry about that if he comes here..
Going to have to find another reason to drink on a Thursday afternoon. Pregame for Tigers/Red Sox?
You're drinking for a 18-year-old's announcement on his college decision? Might want to look into that.
Since when do you need a REASON to drink?
He's a doctor.
A lot of 18 year olds have announced today which party they will be attending this weekend.
By Thursday it could change.
Come Friday it might change again.
Let the process unfold, don't judge. Better to wait until sure than to decide, announce, redecide, reannounce and then maybe change again.
Let the process unfold, don't judge
Where have I heard that before...
Oh. Right. THAT.
How many times has he cancelled/changed his announcement so far? I know at least twice, and maybe more. Has he cancelled any visits either? Obviously this is one of the biggest decisions of his life, so he should take his time, [deleted content]
Mod Edit: No politics. Don't even mention the names. [zl]
We don't need those kinds of comments about the Partido Revolucionario Institucional.
NO MEXICAN POLITICS.
he played a fast one on RJS.
This time, he's playing everybody. He'll be announcing tomorrow.
Or maybe he's waiting until May 21, 2011 to see if the world really ends! It would be no point to commit if it did /s
Angry Michigan Secondary Hating God is Mayan.
Muck the Fayans
That actually would be funny. It'd be nice if he still committed Thursday.
If he really wants to go blue he shouldn't stall. Especially at the rate people are committing to us. We might get three DBs to committ by tomorrow. Then it's see ya!
then he should take however much time he needs to get comfortable we're still like 9 months away from signing day.
Absolutely. Take your time and decide. I rather him take his time, then de-commit or feel forced into a decision.
This is one of those times where the difference in outcome between inserting "then" and inserting "than" is vast. Something tells me you didn't want your sentence to take the form "I want a minorly annoying thing to befall Michigan fans followed by a much worse thing or an example of a prospective player feeling like the coaches are being douchey."
Yeah, haha. I read that the way it was written, and I was like, "WTF? You want him to take his time, and still de-commit?" Wouldn't you rather he take his time so he doesn't decommit?
Totally my fault. Should be than.
Did the coaches know something we don't, when they threw an offer out to Allen Gant. They orginally told him to camp to get an offer and now he gets an offer two days before richardson was suppossed to announce. Now we hear that that the announcement has changed.
Terry is a true corner and Gant is a true safety. IMO
I guess the timing is what strikes me.
WTF!!!...the longer he waits he will take more visits and then who knows?
he's not finding the right partner to commit with.
He will when he finds one. Keep the 2x2 tradition alive!
Just got a lot more productive.
Very keen to hear the premise of all this and its implications -- hopefully nothing more than an 17 year old high school student basking in the attention (perhaps rightfully so, but before he is broken down and humbled). However, they do come in all varieties - such as Joe Bolden who took a trip to Ann Arbor only to commit in person with a gentleman's handshake.
There's too much of it here.
