The "lynch mob mentality" that you seem to be perceiving is because you made a random quip about our chances of landing Richardson that was completely unfounded and that you did not back up in any way despite requests to do so.

Had you clarified what the hell you meant then you might not have had this problem. If your point was that OSU offers to kids we've also offered don't work out well for us then fine.

In this case, hard to tell if it will have an effect. It's certainly a big offer and Richardson is a big prospect but given the emphasis Hoke is placing on in-state recruiting and the pipeline that exists with Cass, we're nowhere close to "dagger in the coffin" territory.

"what are your thoughts? Is this the dagger in the coffin?"

This proves my point about the "lynch mob mentality" even more. It was a question posed, not even me saying that was a foregon conclusion. People please read carefully.(laughing out loud)

This isn't a matter of groupthink. You asked a dumb question, people called you on it, and you're trying to pass the buck. That's what it comes down to.

In any case to answer the question, the reaction you've gotten is because it's not even close. Richardson has probably the biggest national profile of any of the in-state kids and should also be a challenge to land (Cass Tech aside). That said, Michigan is in a good position and there's never been anything that I've read or found suggesting he was interested in OSU (unlike Ross who was coveting an OSU offer).

It's too early to tell one way or the other but this shouldn't have any bigger impact on our chances then his Bama offer, or his USC offer or the ND offer, etc.

Right, but they were all from Ohio.  Michigan hasn't lost any in-state kids (that they actually went after, I don't remember us really recruiting James Jackson or whatever his name was) to OSU, so the Richardson thing is completely different.

I'm not saying it's not possible, but it's a whole different animal, in my opinion.

We did go after James Jackson, but I don't think he was necessarily a huge priority.

But not all those guys were from Ohio - Joel Hale, Corey Brown, Roderick Smith, Chad Hagan.

BTW, Johnathan Hankins was from Michigan, although I guess I kind of hesitate to include him here because of the weird circumstances surrounding his recruitment.

None of that changes your point, but it's data nonetheless.

when we are a better school academically, a better school culturally and a better football school historically ... we might as well give up and not play football.

Don't underestimate the school, the program or the staff.

Both Terry Richardson and James Ross were at Ohio State today, so it's not surprising. Terry is going to give everyone a look, including Ohio State. When he says he's open, he's not lying. Michigan has a lot of work to do if they want Richardson.

We can't take all the players we offer and neither can OSU. Maybe Bama does but that is another story.

Really hope we can get him.  Not sure why he wouldnt want to play for Michigan.  Delonte Holloway seems to be a great kid and a recruiter.  Dont see why he would not help Michigan out in talking with him to Go Blue.

I will be interested to see how some of these verbal offers with various recruits play out  with the change in the actual written offers not being able to be sent out until Sept. 1rst this year.

I think some players(not necissarily talking about Terry) will be a little confused about what is going on with certain schools when September rolls around. I think the change with the official written offer date is having the exact opposite effect than it was intended by the NCAA. Shocker.

I realize that these offers are definitely committable if a school would like them to be, but I am curious on what the data will end up being with kids getting the run around when trying to commit to one of these verbal offers. I, personally, feel that a lot of these verbal offers to various recruits are a school trying to not be left behind if they end up actually really wanting a certain kid when the official offers are allowed to be sent out in September.

Obvs it wont be Richardson but... Its time for a commit already. Weve given out close to 100 offers and it would be nice to get things rolling a little bit.  I know it is incredibly early but I just want one! Even TomVh saying there is a silent commit or Sam Webb having a gut feeling about a guy! PLEASE!!!

Wormley, RJS, Goddin, someone, anyone, just make it happen already!

What coffin?  I see no perceivable coffin related to Cass Tech (generally), Richardson (specifically), or recruiting (generally).  The only discussion area might be, does an OSU offer decrease the likelihood of a Michigan commitment from Richardson?  The only person who can answer that is Richardson.  It sounds like Mattison is intensifying defensive recruiting capabilities, so I think that Michigan should be sitting well in the minds of recruits.
