Wojo is horrible by himself.  He needs a straight man and his knowledge of anything deeper than what his friends in the journalist community tell him about the Pistons, Red Wings, Lions etc is lacking.

Riger isn't bad, except he's a complete buffoon. He claims to be a Michigan fan but he's a 97.1 Michigan fan, meaning he thinks all other Michigan fans who think highly of anyone in the program is a homer slappy. He also says Bo Schembechler is the most overrated coach in the history of college football.

But aside from that he's great.

It seemed that Foster never even tried after he got back. He clearly didn't do his homework and seemed to not get basic stuff right. This screams to me that he was pushed out the door.

AS for a replacement, it has to be Riger. I don't love him when he talks UM. Almost like Colbert with Republicans...a condensating facade put up to make fun of us...outside of UM, he and Valenti worked very well. He did his homework

grow up...i have an opinion that you disagree with...deal with it. I am quite sympathetic to his situation, but it isn't like he was well versed in the sporting world in Detroit before his stroke. He didn't pay attention to current events, openly admitted to not even watching the Red wings, and his in-depth discussions were garbage.

as asshole. i patient of mine works there and he just plays the "make fun of michigan" card when the show starts to get boring. if you are a michigan fan and you listen to him, you are just paying a sparty idiot... also hates detroit sports teams and the city. i will never know why detroiters  listen to (and pay) some stupid new yorker to make fun of them....

The same memories you had of those 2 I had of Stoney and Wojo.  No idea why they broke those 2 up - that was a great pairing, a complete sports nerd with a guy who superficially knows sports but was great comic relief.

This is their show... Yup, got a lot with them too. I remember having those guys on 1130 AM with Baligian from 10-2, and then you could flip to Valenti and Foster if you didn't like the topic.

That's why I really enjoyed 105.1 when they were around. No idea what it was, but that morning show and afternoon with Ryan and Rico were great. Karsh and Anderson are so beyond stale.

When they were in their prime, they were unbeatable. But at the end on WDFN, Stoney and Wojo got very stale. Wojo stayed away from radio for a bit, but Stoney came back first and went to the morning show. I don't think Wojo wants to deal with a morning show that early.

Always have to move personalities or find other combinations.

It's a total stunner that the 97.1 FM show is still together after so many years. They are basically impossible to listen to. I love the fact that V&F do a ton of different things, drops, games, etc...

Karch's show is, (11:27) Coming up at 11:43, you'll never guess what THIS Detroit fan did!

I loved Stoney and Wojo back in the day. But I find myself getting more easily annoyed at Stoney's high pitched whiny voice every other sentence these days. He's always talked like that but for some reason, it really gets on my nerves now. I love Wojo. I'll never get tired of him. "Happy New Year, wooooo!"

I think they axed Stony and Wojo at the same time that Clear Channel was executing (and that is the right word) a national bloodletting across all of its stations nationwide. I think it was a 10% reduction of all staff, but I believe 1130 got hit the hardest. Knocked some guys off the air I was listening to out west, too.

Was that the same time they dropped all local programming completely, or did that happen later? Anyway, it was part of a much larger reduction, as sometimes happens in radio, and one that I suspect people regret given how many of the people that were laid off got rehired.

They killed all local talent on DFN at noon on January 20, 2009. The only reason I remember that was because I was driving around noon and heard the local show (Beligian, I think). I listened to Obama being sworn in, and went about my day. I came back to the office later that afternoon and flipped the station on again, and it was two boobs that I've never heard of on a national show.

He works out at the same gym I go to.  Pre Stroke he was social and always talking with people.  Post Stroke you could tell he just wasn't himself, like he lost a part of his self.

Hopefully he gets back to his self and this retirement is short lived.

Whenever Valenti was absent and Foster was solo for a show, he did a great job at taking calls and facilitating discussion, and I have to give him credit for it.  He was easygoing, never combative, and disarming for the guests to freely speak their minds.

Aside from those opportunities, he was just the yes-man beta male to Valenti's alpha.  What would frustrate my about Foster is that he'd talk about talking about something.  E.g. "let me tell you this", "I will say this", "First of all, I'm gonna say this first", and so on.

Just say what you're going to say!  You don't need to ask a girl to kiss her, you just kiss her.  Likewise, you don't need to announce your intentions to make a statement, just say it.  Why the pointless filler?

I don't expect anybody else to be as peeved by this as I was, but did you guys at least notice it?

I think 97.1 should put Caputo on with Valenti.

I'd give it two days before one of them killed the other one or Valenti would just move back to New Jersey (finally).

Being a stroke victum myself back in '08, I thought Terry did a great job coming back with no signs of Aphasia over the air. I still periodically mispronounce a word or two that I never did prior to my stroke. Good luck Terry, enjoying the life you deserve.

I'd love to have him replaced with Matt Dery too !
