Terius Wheatley commits to VA Tech
For obvious reasons, I thought he'd end up in Ann Arbor. Can never have too many Wheatleys in a program. Either way, good luck Terius! Go Blue!

1 year maybe 2 as fifth yr senior.
December 12th, 2016 at 9:17 AM ^
Yes. We play them in 2020 and 2021, so he would be in his fourth and fifth years at Virginia Tech during that time.

Good for him. I thought he was underutilized at Pioneer.

What is wrong with his 247 profile..? He is not a 3-star, yet the #1 athlete and #3 composite overall.

Prep School.

I see that now. But there are 5 kids ranked in their composite... Wouldn't it make more sense just to lump them in with the normal '17 class?
Which then makes me wonder, if there are only 5 kids ranked, no others from Michigan, how is he #2 in the state of Michigan?
December 12th, 2016 at 9:46 AM ^
They have the same eligibility as HS seniors, so for recruiting purposes they are equivalent. 247 is a recruiting site, after all.
December 12th, 2016 at 9:53 AM ^
Agreed. I get the different rankings for high schoolers and JUCO players, but prep schoolers should be lumped in with the high school guys.

I don't think 247 puts much effort into their tracking of prep school players, they tend to not focus on them as much once they go that route instead of enrolling in school. For comparision, scout does list him as a '17 kid, but offers no ranking or stars. They also haven't published a story, besides his VT commitment, that mentions him in over a year.

Wow, interesting. I remember reading an article about Terius's recruitment around the same time Ty Wheately Jr. first came onto the recruiting scene. I had thought that the reason I hadn't heard anything more from is because he was not attracting FBS attention, but I'm glad to see that I was wrong! Good luck to Terius, Va. Tech. is a well respected program in Michigan. =

so he's half a foot shorter and 80 pounds under Ty Jr? I always find these bast differences in sibling height and size very interesting. Dylan vs. Christian McCaffery is another example that makes me wonder how siblings can be so different in size..

I have a son who is 5'10" and another son who is 6'4". I tell my shorter son to blame his mother.

I'd have fun with it and say "Blame Travis Henry."

dad is 5'4" and my mom was 5'5".
I am 6'4".
Used to joke that I was the mailman's kid because my older brother was only 5'9"...
But then my younger brother sprouted up to about 6'2".
So now I say: "Welp - they do say the Postman always rings twice!"

My dad was 5'5 and I am 6'1 too but he grew up during the depression in another country eating god knows what. I realize genes can combine in a lot of different ways but when it's 2 siblings 2 years apart from each other I just think that it's very interesting when they are so far apart in size and also turn out to be great athletes but at different positions. .

My brother and I were 18 months apart - so the difference in size was pretty stark and many people questioned my lineage. LOL

2 brothers share half the dna of each parent.
a brother and a sister also share half the dna of each parent.
are we surprised if brothers and sisters are different heights? are we amazed that brothers and sisters are different sex?
JKP and ambry thomas are cousins, only 1/8 same dna but both are great high school football players.
go figure

biologic paradigm:
an organism's phenotype (height being a relevant measurable in homo sapiens) is determined both by the genotype and the environment which acts on the organism.
height is affected by many genes. one obvious gene product is growth hormone. the expression and regulation of growth hormone is affected by many other genes. the environment- nutition ( milk consumption, etc) has potential to affect all gene expression/regulation.
think great dane and chihuahua dog breeds. nearly geneticaly identical but have major differences in growth hormone expression (perhaps other hormones as well).
bottom line: drink as much milk as your belly can hold.

No it was an observation which has a lot do with personal circumstances I do appreciate your sage medical commentary (no sarcasm) there. Very interesting stuff all of which I guess I know but am still surprised by.

Wa he ever offered by UM?
Must be hard for him when both his brother and Dad are at UM and then to choose a different school, especially if he was never offered by UM. But glad to hear he at least got an offer from a school like VT. I'll be rooting for him.
December 12th, 2016 at 1:16 PM ^
No, he wasn't offered by Michigan.
December 12th, 2016 at 1:22 PM ^
VT was his best offer by a mile. He'd have been silly to go anywhere else.
December 12th, 2016 at 4:18 PM ^
He should have walked on at UofM.

Their brother Tyrion is even shorter.
