The team reacts to the unis(video)

I'm not saying I like them or don't, but some of you forget that they're the ones who will wear them and represent the great university that we all love.

It's not letting me embed the BTN video? Edit: longer video including player interviews. Players also helped design the unis http://mgovideo.com/players-react-to-go-blue-uniforms/

The kids?? It's all about the merchandising $$. 20k people will pay $49 bucks or more. A tidy little profit.

It's not about the players, but that sure makes a nicer story.

You're right, that's the primary goal. But most of the arguments here aren't railing against that. They are saying the uniforms are ugly, they aren't the traditional uni's they're comfortable with, how could anyone be so stupid as to like them. Well, the players love them, and they're much more important than anyone here.

1) players and recruits like them
2) some fans love them, and will pay to buy them
3) AD makes some money off #2
4) Some fans dislike them...oh well, see #1 and don't buy them. You're not obligated to like you are a personal donation for season tickets.

For the record, I really like them. I love our traditional jerseys and as long as they remain the uniform for 90% of games I'm OK. It's the social media era now. I think it's fine to make small changes like alternate jerseys to cater to the younger generation. I just prefer that the alternates look great and not awful. These are great. We're 3-3 in the great/awful alternate race by my count.

You would know that the universities make less than 5% on it. Less than 5% on whatever they make is a drop in the bucket. It's not about the money but good try.

Got my jersey last night. Patiently waiting for those awesome gloves. The pants make this uniform for me.

This is what you see when you walk into the Towsley Museum at Schembechler Hall

I plan on having one of those for each alternate uniform as a display in my basement/fan cave at my future house.

I already have the complete uniform for UTL, 2011 at state and the Sugar Bowl. I just need a few things here and there for the two 2012 alternates.

That's why I was upset the ADept isn't having a garage sale this year.

When I say complete uniforms, I have the helmet style worn, jersey, undershirt, pants, pads, gloves, shoes, socks.

Tiny details are needed like a Cowboys Classic decal Michigan wore on the back of their helmets in the 2012 game. I'm going to a custom shop that will do that for me.

I was originally going to do every uniform but I realized there's no way I'll be able to do that without hitting it big.

I'm a traditionalist of the Get Off My Lawn School. And I think we should recruit players who want to be part of our tradition, and instill that tradition in them. That said, this is a game, played by young men, and they should enjoy it. Yes, it's about merchandising and money as well, but if they enjoy the uni's, and take pride in playing in them, let them have fun. They deserve it. And in this case, maybe what we think shouldn't matter as much when it's one or two games a year.

Now, if we go full-on Oregon, or start messing with the helmets, I will be grabbing my pitchfork. But this seems a relatively balanced approach.

Oh, and what's with the numbers? Bad move aesthetically. The blue-on-blue is pretty bad-ass, though.

It is just that they haven't picked the right alts.  I've always wanted to see the blue pants on the away uniform.  As for the home uniform.....I'd prefer to leave it as is.  Our home uniform is extremely sharp and especially so in a night game.

As for this look....not bad, probably the best alt they've displayed so far.

I mentioned this a couple times already but the actual uniform looks a lot better than the renderings, particularly the M-Den one. The stripes are more subtle and catch the light at certain angles as the player moves. I bet this will look very sharp under the lights.

Dammit DB. it's not about the players. Your jersey choices are ruining the experience for the 50 year olds. And way to make JMFR say he had a say...

b) still ugly; c) change is okay and inevitable; d) players SHOULD be part of reasoning/input on issue; but e) someone with better design and aesthetic sense should be pushing for a better looking product. (Why not get some art/design students in on the deal?)

Nike, Adidas--if they're like the car companies--probably hire designers away from each other. It's not a question of which corporate behemoth puts them out. It's a question of Michigan people fighting until the designs are sweet. Loved the first UTL unis, for example. But some of these have been half-assed.

This is really what it's about for me.  I'd love this whole thing if they looked a lot better.  Great looking alt unis CAN be designed and manufactured.  If, of all universities, Michigan can't demand and expect a much better design then what is wrong?  Players having input or not, it still comes down to the AD for allowing the ugly to flow.  Yes, they look better than the other alternates, but that's such a damn low bar.

I hate the uniforms and love the ducks usually. They are so ugly, however if the players love them then hell yes I love them. Plus nobody cares what any of us on here thinks. Go Blue!

My opinion of alternate uniforms is that it should capture the essence of the legacy uniform. These do no not.

The alternates definitely look cool, but without the helmet, I can't distinguish them from West Virginia or Cal.

I know I'm going to get killed for this but 3 stripes down the side of the pants would look cool.  Plenty of other schools have stripes on the pants, why not us?

It would match the 3 stripes on the helmets.

These uniforms are basically just the all blue basketball uniforms on turf.  I don't see why some people are freaking out, especially since the seniors designed them.

I can't make up my mind. I hate the idea of an alternate jersey, we don't need them in my opinion. If it is important to the players then I get it, I just wish they were a little cleaner looking. Take the striping off the numbers but leave it on the shoulders and I think they would look better. I do think that if they are going to have alternates, these are the best so far, the other alternates were a tire fire.

wow, didn't see the team 135 on the other sleeve. that's actually kinda cool. the WordArt M on the other sleeve takes away from the momentum though..

Now if they could just do something about those ugly helmets. And the stadium could use a make over. Maybe a horseshoe shape. And are we ever going to get a mascot? While you are at it, lose the band. They are ruining halftime with all that noise.

Kids like flash and dash, maybe even more than tradition. The concept of "uniformz" seems like a gimmick, but the players will wear them, so they should like them...at least, to a degree.

I love all the blue, but I'm old school when it comes to the shoes. Basic black, please.
