Team 136 Appreciation Thread

Submitted by ThatTCGuy on

Despite what happened today, we shouldn't take for granted what Harbaugh, the entire coaching staff, and the team have done.

I don't think I've ever seen a team (with less talent than a team that went 5-7 last year) do what this team has done, with the exception of Urban Meyer's first team. We shouldn't take for granted that we were one play and a few deep balls away from 11-1, and that's something we should be proud of.

I'll still take it, but crikey today was ugly. Next year with Glasgow, Mone, and (hopefully) young Rashan Gary added to the field suggest we won't be getting pushed around up front in Columbus.

Good year. Lousy ending.

The only difference between this game and the ones under Hoke is OSU's defense got a hell of a lot better. Let's remember we were 5-7 last year and have about 10% as much NFL talent. Jabrill is like the only guy who could possibly go in the first round this year (I know he's not eligible), OSU has Bell, Boss, Thomas, Elliot, McMillon, Apple, Efflein, and Decker. They are better than us and they showed it.

I am hoping Ash gets a look somewhere  with all the job openings - he has been a huge change for that D from when Fickell was the D.C. alone.  They are looking at Durkin after 1 year but not ASh who has had that D doing really well ?  Boggling.

As for the team this will be the worst UM team in Harbaugh's tenure I believe although the 2017 team is going to be very young.  Worst loss of the year but we were competitive 11/12 games which is a vast difference from past few years.

We will look back at this team and its poor running game and marvel we won 9 games.  DL covered up deficiencies at LB all year and the few games they got mauled (IND, OSU) those deficiencies were out in the open for all to see.  Luckily we dont play in a conf with many good teams with speed and play well in space.

I just wish we had beaten those f**kers from EL.  I would have traded a loss to MN or IND to wipe that smug look off Dantinio's lucky as f*** face.  Sucks to lose to both rivals but at least we lost to the 3 best teams on the schedule unlike prior years when any opponent was a threat to beat us.

Hoke's teams overachieved against Ohio because they underachieved everywhere else. Harbaugh's next game is the most important approach means the team was playing at their potential all year. They went up against a better team today (especially considering injuries) and they just didn't have that extra gear to keep it close. Tough way to end the season but they still outperformed most expectations and finally look competent in all phases, most of the time, for the first time in probably a decade. I'll take it in year one.

Hoke literally practiced osu every week so we had more practiced plays, etc. Yet we still lost all but 2011 so if it was at the expense of other games I'm not sure (at all) that it's the right approach. That said, you need to get up for games like this. They did and they're just so much more talented right now.

But we should remember what Harbaugh eventually did to Carrol.  He did THAT to CARROL while he was at STANFORD.  He'll do the same to Meyer, I'm 100% certain of that.  But he can't do that overnight.

Patience.

We are in the top-10 in year one. Were being talked about for playoffs. Year one. This team could be the worst in Harbaugh's tenure here.

but we were exposed badly today. I'd hoped this would be a game where we were able to go toe-to-toe with OSU but clearly they're at another level (although somehow those assclowns still choked vs an average MSU team at home)

This year was nice, but I think today's game knocked everyone's perception of the program's trajectory back by a year or two. Maybe back to where we were post-Utah

No. The only thing "exposed" was the DL depth issues due to injury.

The MSU game shows where we are. We basically beat them. And they're likely going to win the conference.

Guess what? We had Ryan Glasgow then. We didn't today or last week.

The thin DL depth was the worry coming into the season, and it unfortunately was confirmed when 3 would-be starters went down.

Maybe I just didn't get as high as some on this team, but I don't think this game really reset expectations for me that much. If anything, it reset perception of Ohio. They were a NC caliber team waiting for the light to come on all season, and it finally did against us. Our defense was great but not elite and we just had one injury to many for the depth to overcome. Ohio and Indiana were the perfect teams to expose that deficiency, and they both did, ruthlessly. Offense this year was always a rickity thing relying on outstanding playcalling and a bit of luck to keep moving forward. Against a defense like Ohio, we just weren't going to be able to keep up.

We all would have taken 9-3 at the beginning of the year. My hat goes off to the team and coaches - helluva job. Harbaugh's first year was a resounding success. Honestly, the only game that really burns me was against Sparty... I won't be watching that ending anytime soon, if ever.

Double digit wins is still on the table. Go Blue!

we wound up 9-3. I'm bummed now, yes, but many of our guys come back and many of OSU's and MSU's do not...

We'll probably be the favorite to win the conference next year.

And people are talking about Michigan football again and will continue to do so.

What can I say? They did far better than I imagined at season start. So many players took large steps in their development, we began creating an identity and embracing an edginess that has seriously lacked over the past decade, and gave the fanbase something to be proud of. Even with today's result, we have hope and plenty to look forward to. We know where we can improve, and I have complete trust in our program that we will do what we have to in order to get where we want to go. Lastly, I believe that Harbuagh and our teams will not forget today's antics and results at our home field. Ohio State will get what's coming to them.

Our rivalry games didn't go as planned (especially today), but 9 wins exceeded my expectations and there's a chance for one more. I hope the players don't get too down on themselves.

I'll always remeber this team as the cornerstone of the new era of Michigan football.

9-3, top 20, with a bowl game still to go.

I'm almost upset that I'm not more upset at the loss. But, the worst is far behind us, and the future is glowing Maize and Blue!

Now for some big Hello posts?!?!

at 10 wins has exceeded expectations. Harbaugh turned water into wine to get this record. Harbaugh will not stop until he is on top, and that will not be too far off.

but I truly thought we were a 6-7 win team before the year. We only ("only") lost the games I predicted we'd "definitely lose". Even then we'd likely have beat Utah with Rudock instead of Ruddock, we did have msu beat and osu went as I expected with this roster. 9 wins was my "absolute best case scenario" prediction so I'm bummed but perspective is needed as we were atrocious last year with the same guys and we'd have been worse with no changes, led by one of the backup QBs (maybe 1-2 wins, tbh). Really bad. So, it had moments of pain but still a lot better than expected! I don't think I've ever looked at the next 4 years of UM Football with more optimism.

I remember the day that appreciation threads would only be reserved for teams that beat MSU and OSU won titles and went to the Rose Bowl...Isnt that the standard here? my how the last decade has changed ....sadly I guess Ive gotten used to it....hard to be optomistic after that complete DEBACLE

I'm assuming you are awarding participation threads for the Rose Bowl, since the last win was in '98. The comedic relief in some of the comments is just rich.

See this type of attitude is why we lack passion in these rivalry games. It's not fucking OK I would rather lose every game of the year except msu and osu. There is no point winning all these games if you can't beat your rivals. Don't get me wrong this team will be much better but no matter what we should lay down to a loss like this. A dumpster fire Texas team beat number 3 Oklahoma this year soooo yea... FUCK

I know the immediate feelings that come in the wake of this game - I share them. It was pretty ugly, particularly in the 2nd half.

As other have said though, I think we all imagined this as a transitional year and the expectations of a lot of people were somewhat tempered in August, which 9-3 being the high end of a lot of predictions. Well, we hit the high end then, which in a first year like this one, makes it difficult to be as upset about today as I might be in other circumstances.

Overall, a very nice regular season from Team 136. The future is indeed bright, I believe.

We won't run the ball effectively anytime soon. The good news is we will get Mone back. Hopefully we will get Ryan Glasgow back. Our linebackers will be... uncertain.

After the Utah loss JH said in the press conference "we know what's wrong and we are going to fix it" and they did. I believe he's walking away from this game with the same thought process and will produce the same type of results (a vast improvement) We were a pick six and a completed deep ball away from beating Utah and a dropped punt away from beating MSU. So the only team that "beat us was Ohio. Do we get a consolation prize for any of that....? No but it sure helps put things in Perspective

Team 136 turned the program around. Faster than we expected, slower than we had wished once the season move forward so well. We were outplayed but not outcoached are oluthustled. What a great legacy for this team.
