TE Standish Dobard Offered

Submitted by Bluestreak on

New Orleans TE Standish Dobard is reporting an offer from Michigan according to 247 Sports.

Dobard is 6'5", 235 and rated a high 3 star on 247 / 4 stars on Rivals. His offer list has all the SEC heavy weights + bunch of other elite programs) (LSU/ Alabama, Oklahoma, Florida, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia)

I couldn't find any higlights of Standish on youtube except this one

Again - one of the most sought after TE's from the south - he'll be difficult to reel in IMO.

Ok...firstly and more importantly: TREMENDOUS name! He's a 5* in my book just for that. Secondly: I can't BELIEVE we still have offers flying out considering how quickly this class is filling up. TE I get. But generally, it's still pretty stunning.

With Hoke & Co.'s recruiting success, why not try to snag a couple away from the SEC?  Worth a try, but I agree that I wouldn't count on it.  It does make me wonder if schools assess a recruit's interest before extending an offer...

The coaches know who they want. If they want any one of 10 different guys at a position, then why not offer them all and whoever snaps it up first is the lucky wolverine?

I think coaches are silly to be too selective. If you need a TE, you can't put all your eggs in the "You're our guy" basket. Hoke doesn't operate like that anyway. He doesn't have 'his guys'. He's building a team. He would like you to be PART of it. You're not important on your own.

I like seeing us go after guys(and get some) that SEC and other non Big Ten teams are going for. I think to win a title we need to beat those top teams over key players and to become a consistent top five recruiting team so I like this offer and I like that we have a shot with guys like this against that type of competition

Didn't one of our recent tight end commits say that Coach Hoke told them Michigan would not be taking any more tight ends in this class? Doesn't handing out an offer to another TE send a bad signal to the guys who are already committed, especially if Hoke and co really did tell these kids that they were done recruiting the position?

I'm not sure where 247 is coming from...this guy looks like a clear 4* prospect, and how dare they suggest anyone with that name could be anything less.

He looks like the prototype MICHIGAN TE from that little film snippet.

Dobard is a little to close to Debord for my liking.  And when I think of Debord, the 2008 Rose Bowl memory is still fresh in my mind.  Zone blocking against a defense with future NFL linebackers: Brian Cushing, Clay Matthews, Keith Rivers and Rey Maualuga is still very hard for me to forgive.
