Everyone knew about it, he was asked about it multiple times in interviews with teams, and his answers were all widely reported.  I'm just saying there's a difference between knowing about it, asking him about it and getting his explanation, and then having the police actually charge him with something.  Up until then, its all something that might just go away with no charges filed.  Now, its something else and teams are left to wonder whether or not Lewan is lying to them (and everyone else), or if there's actually something to the charges and incident.

Teams will take this info along with the rumors around the Gibbons case, and they might (and probably will) think twice about drafting him.

All three charges are misdemeanors according to the AA News.  He has two charges of assualt and battery that are punishible by 93 days in jail or a fine up to $500.  And he has one charge of aggravated assualt which can be punishable by 1 year in jail and/or a fine of $1,000.

With no priors, he probably won't get much in the way of punishment.  He can afford a good lawyer now, so probably just a fine and some community service/anger management or something like that.

Just to pass it on, that night was at least the third time in a year a current UM student I know said he saw Lewan being a raging, drunken douche at the Ann Arbor bar scene. I had no reason not to believe him the other times, but this charge probably confirms his credibility.

Lewan's not even on the podium.  The main thing he allegedly did that I find offensive was to threaten the victim in the Gibbons situation.  That was heinous and vastly diminished my respect for him.  However, he also forewent going to the NFL to help stabilize a wobbly line, and did a few other good things.

But the worst captain ever?  I submit Minoru Genda (you may know me for such things as planning the Pearl Harbor attack) for your consideration:

I mean, his teammates voted him a captain, so maybe he's got some redeeming qualities...

I don't really know what happened in this particular situation, and I don't like what he did to Isaiah Lewis's helmet earlier this year. But Jonas Mouton got suspended for throwing a punch, and I don't think Mouton is a DB.

He must have something going for him if they voted that and the twosie and some other things he has done were funny but I was sick of his talking the talk and seemingly not leading by the end of the year. It will be a loss but I really have no feeling on him not being around anymore.

Unfortunately douchebags off the field usually make good football players on the field.

*see Richie Incognito. The first thing that came out with the whole Dolphins fiasco is that  most teammates of Incognito had his back.
