"Tate will play on Saturday"
That's from Varsity Blue (at press conference) via Twitter. The quote is VB's quote - note that it's not a Rod quote in the original.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:07 AM ^
If they're already expecting him to practice tomorrow, that bodes well for Saturday.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:07 AM ^
For those that don't like twitter!
VB: Tate's bruised/sore shoulder. Limited practice today, should be OK tomorrow.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:08 AM ^
he said today he'll just work on handing off and short throws, but the trainers are confident that he'll be fine later in the week.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:09 AM ^
wait for the injury report thursday or the walkthrough with richrod on friday. They'll have a better idea by then. His shoulders sore as hell right now, he won't know how it will be until later in the week
September 28th, 2009 at 12:13 PM ^
God I hope this is the truth. I think Tate can light them up but he'll need to be healthy.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:09 AM ^
What a surprise!
September 28th, 2009 at 12:31 PM ^
Staudt's a douche.
September 28th, 2009 at 12:43 PM ^
...nozzle
September 28th, 2009 at 11:10 AM ^
Thank God.......that guy is simply the engine that makes us go, he's clutch, and as poised a freshman QB as anybody has seen in a long time.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:12 AM ^
David Molk has a "bone stimulator" to spur the healing and only plans on being out 4 weeks. Molk already says that he has no pain.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:13 AM ^
We can rebuild him!
Seriously though wtf is a bone stimulator and how does it help the healing process?
September 28th, 2009 at 11:15 AM ^
Obviously it's something Mesko brought to the program...from space.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:16 AM ^
Monica Bellucci is a bone stimulator.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:18 AM ^
Zing!
September 28th, 2009 at 11:36 AM ^
But +1 good sir +1
September 28th, 2009 at 2:39 PM ^
holy negbang bone stiumlator!!!!!!!
September 28th, 2009 at 11:59 AM ^
Wow, I usually do not post "Zing" or +1, but those are the best two comical replies I have read on this site. Well, at least top 5. Bravo.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:17 AM ^
Send some ultrasound waves into the bone and it causes tiny distributions that stimulate the healing process.
That is my understanding anyway.
Sounds like Molk is well on the way to recovery. Hopefully he can be back by the Illinois game.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:24 AM ^
They might be doing something else but if you use the ultrasonic therapy on a broken bone (or a fracture) it's going to hurt like hell since it's vibrating the sh!t out of your bone. The ultrasonic therapy works more for ligaments and tendons (used it 3 different times for therapy).
I'm guessing he's getting access to stuff that you and I would even be able to get to in our wildest dreams.

Seriously, it sounds like he's getting ultrasound. I somehow doubt he has access to things anyone with good health insurance doesn't.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:44 AM ^
I've never seen or heard of an ultrasound for bone healing despite my months and months in Physical Therapy. All the ultrasounds I've seen and used definitely are no gos for broken bones - I guess that's why it says this "the ONLY bone stimulator using ultrasound technology approved to treat fractures that that have failed to heal; approved to heal specific fresh fractures faster."
I'd say the level of treatment and care he gets rivals, if not beats, even the very best health insurance out there.

"wtf is a bone stimulator"
On the internet, he asks this. Oy. Too easy.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:19 AM ^
I didn't feel real comfortable searching for "bone stimulator" at work, but here you go:
September 28th, 2009 at 11:22 AM ^
A small battery powered device with wire leads attached to pads on the skin overlying the broken bone. The small electric current, or shocks, stimulate the bone healing cells (osteoblasts), to do their thing, i.e. lay down new bone cells. it's cool, it works, been used for 20+ years.

Some of them use magnetic fields. The one used after spine surgeries are painless and patients don't even know they are on.
September 28th, 2009 at 1:17 PM ^
I heard Barwis grabbed Molk's broken foot with both hands, gave it an evil glare and screamed, "HEAL YOU !@#$%^&*"!!!!! Then he handed him a cold glass of chocolate milk - been healing fine ever since.
September 28th, 2009 at 2:11 PM ^
I think it's more like the voodoo that Mr. Miyagi could do. I imagine Molk is the only one screaming while he's getting stimulated.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:21 AM ^
They are giving him some free pr0n huh? Gotta do something while you're sitting around with a boot on your foot I guess ;)
EDIT: Damn, I was way too late on that one! Crap!
Lucy Pinder anyone??
September 28th, 2009 at 11:31 AM ^
Lucy Pinder, if I can have Malene Espensen.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:18 AM ^
This is wonderful news.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:21 AM ^
No open Wednesday practice for media. Closing it down this week. RR said "Not that I don't trust you guys..."
September 28th, 2009 at 11:21 AM ^
Glad to hear the injury seems pretty minor. Tate's a good kid and a great QB and deserves to play as much as he can. Though, I'm assuming we might see something similar to the DRob/Forcier interchange that took place during the IU game.
The way those two seem so comfortable with each other, on and off the field, really makes that system a lot smoother than many of the two QB systems I've seen in the past. I keep noticing how much they tend to fire each other up going on and off the field.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:48 AM ^
Saw that Saturday and was really excited about it. It seems genuine, and the system is so much better off for it.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:43 AM ^
them BONE stimulator thangs.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:48 AM ^
Maybe we should be more concerned with Moosman getting Tate the ball before we worry about his throwing shoulder.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:56 AM ^
we had 5 bad snaps for a loss of 70 yards!!!!!!!!! that is a major concern limit TO'S AND REALLY DUMB PLAYS ( like snapping the ball 25 yards past our QB's) we win by 10
September 28th, 2009 at 12:02 PM ^
UM short-circuited four or five drives with bad snaps and still had enough to score 36 points and win. That means that after coaching and another week of experience in practice fix what went wrong, UM will have four or five extra drives against MSU that they didn't have against Indiana.
September 28th, 2009 at 12:07 PM ^
people keep saying this. two were the offsides snaps. one denard failed to handle. i don't recall the other two.
if moosman stops with the offsides snag and the quarterbacks can handle the snaps that come to them, this is largely a non-issue.
i think the former has probably already been handled, and the latter, well, we can hope. but that's not moosman's fault.
September 28th, 2009 at 12:33 PM ^
It's a bit of a stretch to say it was Robinsons fault when he missed the snap. When you are the QB you are expecting the snap in your midsection and that was clearly over his left shoulder. Could he have grabbed it?? Sure, but was it a bad snap, definitely. I can't bring myself to say it was his fault for not snagging that snap, it was off.
September 28th, 2009 at 12:40 PM ^
To me it just looks like he was zinging it too hard. It's a fine line but if he snaps it just a tad softer, then even when it's off to the side or low or whatever, Tate/D Rob would be able to snag it, me thinks.
I think they iron this out no problem.
September 28th, 2009 at 5:18 PM ^
all good points. i stand corrected.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:56 AM ^
Sorry for freaking you guys out before. Honestly I was not lying about talking to Tate and his comments about his shoulder. It just appears that he may have been favoring it a little more because of its tenderness. Either that or he was using it to bring home some girls (not that being the QB starter at UM, being 4-0, and making SportsCenter Top 10 week after week wouldn't ensure that).
Anyways, I'm very excited to hear that he will be throwing tomorrow and even limited throwing today. From our conversation on Saturday night he made it seem he wouldn't be throwing the football until Friday at practice or Saturday for warm-ups.
September 28th, 2009 at 12:42 PM ^
Big gulps eh? Welp, I'm heading over to the RCMB to watch the meltdown.
September 28th, 2009 at 1:42 PM ^
great news. I'm intrigued to see how he plays on the road in a rivalry game.
as much as Denard has huge play potential, it's the threat of a balanced run-pass offense that will allow us to put up the points needed for a win in EL this weekend. and we will need at least the requisite 35, I believe, to win.
M 35-34
Brown/Minor/Shaw combine for 200+ on the ground
Tate throws for 150-175 and a score.
