The bad elements: When I was your age Tate, I flipped burgers all summer just to buy an 8-track..

Tate: That sucks

The bad elements: No, actually it was great. All I did was party and get laid. I had my whole life ahead of me.

Tate puts down the science book.....

--------------------------------------------------

Fast forward to this week...

Tates Dad: You need structure.... and discipline.

Tate: Thank you for trying to teach me sir...Don't give up on me Dad.

So, this is the 2nd semester of what would be his sophomore year at UM.  If he takes his classes at a CC this semester, can he come back next year, sit out, keep his grades, and then come back as a 'redshirt' junior in the fall of 2012?

A senior Denard, junior Tate, and sophomore Devin sounds like a hell of a bullpen.

I know Tate might have a few priorities out of whack, but it sounds like his dad has a strong feeling for the University and for Tate's place on the team. If he's saying that Tate wants to stay too, then I have a good feeling that they'll be able to work things out with the school.

I don't have to reiterate to everyone how important QB depth is during this transition, but I do want to point out that Tate seemed to get his head on his shoulders after fall practices and as the season went on, he became more involved with the team. I really hope he understands his important role on the team going forward and doesn't let his pride or whatever this nameless "academic struggle" is get in the way.

Great to see he may be back.  One thing though. . . "Failed to meet standards" always meant grades in my mind.

Is there a full story floating out there I have missed by not reading some late night thread?

I'm not sure why anybody is laughing at this, or at Tate.  I, at least, can say that I don't know what is going on for sure, and I sure as hell haven't been given much information by the Free Press, the News or the jerks on sportstalk radio.  I don't know what reason there is to laugh at Tate Forcier.  I wasn't laughing at Tate when we beat Illinois in OT.  I think I'll just leave it at, "I'd like to have some better information."

Much like some former Michigan players to get into some sort of trouble (academic or other) that Tate gets his act together and gets back on the team. Adrian Arrington did the same after his serious indiscretion and it worked out well for him and Michigan.

It would be much, MUCH easier for Tate to drop out and transfer somewhere else. If he wants to remain at Michigan (even if that means enrolling in a JC for a semester to get grades or whatever improved) and come back, more power to the kid.

He's a 20 year old kid (maybe 19) who has had a ton of media attention. He hasn't killed anyone, broken the law (so far as we know) so lets give him a break. At least his dad isn't trying to pimp him out to the highest bidder for his church (like a Heisman trophy winner went through).

Tate offers us great depth at QB, and a huge security blanket for however everything plays out (ala position changes, transfers, etc).  Not to mention he is a great QB and has dont good things for the program (ie Illinois this year).

I can't believe in this age of twitter, facebook internet stalking etc...this story hasn't been figured out.  Timeline is weird

1. Papers write fawning story of perseverance on Tate.  He says in story school is easy.

2. Tate gets sent home.

3. Internet rumors swirl he flunked out like Blutarski

4. Confirmed he is no longer with team

5. Confirmed he is not enrolled in school

6. Rumor he is going to JUCO then returning

7. Rumor he is going to Montana

8. Dad says he is staying and didn't flunk any classes and we're full circle.

Very odd.

This is libelous, sir.  In fact, Michigan matriculated me and I went on to attain graduate engineering and law degrees.  Faber administration were leftists and bad-mouthed the United States of America.  Gentlemen!

Do you just have to have a C average to be eligible?  Maybe he didn't actually flunk but just slipped under the average?

If he was taking a class that had a high % of the grade on the final, he may have been doing fine until the final and messed up at the end of the year

Not like I'm speaking from experience or anything...

Dad is flying to AA to find out what is going on?  Why does this comment seem disingenuous?  Before I got on any airplane I would have had a talk with my son to find out exactly what the situation was.  Something here does not pass the smell test.

..Borges West Coast offense and sees some potential for getting his job back?

Cam you say roll out and throw! He would actually be a very nice fit for that scheme and could possibly give Denard a run for his money in that case. Anyone think it is a good day for a 'Quarterback Controversy!' thread? Yeah, me neither ;)

Here is hoping Tate gets it worked out and gets back on the roster soon.

TF has been thruogh his share of drama since he got to A2. From the king of the mountain to the pauper in the valley and back up to probably the prince of the mountain and all the way back down below the pauper of the valley. I have no idea what this kid is going through so I will be the last one to judge him but I certainly hope that whatever he is struggling with is removed from his life. Tate we believe in you and  we are praying for you.Hang in there bud.

It takes two consecutive semesters under 2.0 to get the boot @ UM.  I don't think he would've been eligible to play at the beginning of the year if he was on academic probation.  So, I think you're right, there's some other trouble here.  Plagiarism?  Cheating?
